Just confirmed.
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- The U.S. Senate approved the nomination of Hillary Clinton as secretary of state Wednesday by a vote of 94-2.
The two senators that opposed Clinton's confirmation included Sens. Jim DeMint, R-South Carolina, and David Vitter, R-Louisiana.
Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, had objected Tuesday to the confirmation, preventing the Senate from voting by unanimous consent. His objection meant that the Senate held a roll call vote on Clinton's nomination Wednesday.
Cornyn said he knew Clinton will be confirmed, but said he delayed the vote because he wanted more time to talk about the foundation run by Hillary Clinton's husband, former President Bill Clinton.
Bill Clinton signed an agreement with the Obama transition team pledging to limit foreign donations and to release annual disclosures of new donations to his foundation.

Huh? I think it was appropriate. He had concerns. This was the way to express them and get them on record.

It was not appropriate to use Hillary's confirmation hearing as an excuse to dig into Bill's foundation. I know there were supposedly concerns about conflict of interest, but you know that's just a bs excuse.

Not at all. There really are concerns about it. So much so that he had to agree to certain requirements set by Obama for her to get the job.

I disagree, and with the past that her husband had while in office you have to consider that when swearing her in. He didnt say he wasnt going to but he wanted to ask some questions and I for one support that.
But now that she is in I wish her all the luck in the world.

Exactly, he agreed to let them dig around. But the guy wanted to delay the hearing even longer for MORE time, right? That's all I'm saying.
edit: maybe it's just the way the article worded it, idk. Doesn't matter anyway.

Agreed. By the number of the vote, those concerns were answered.
This is how it is supposed to work.

Yes. It's not as if he threatened to filibuster it................
He had concerns and didnt want a voice vote, but rather a recorded vote. 94 thought she answered the concerns. It's done. Precicely how it should be done.

Gotcha. Well, best of luck Clinton and the rest of the Obama administration. Get this country back on track.

Checks&Balances? Who needs em? We elect our representatives just to rubber-stamp whatever comes out of the new Whitehouse!
EDIT: OH, I see you all made up while I was afk... no big deal.
Anyway, I do want to say that when Bush had appointees with issues regarding "undocumented workers" everyone was all in favor of asking questions and having people step down. Imagine if they had received large amounts of money from a foreign government instead of getting them to do their dishes. :)

Hillary is an intelligent, aggressive, worldly woman. She possesses many of the qualities that you'd look for in the ideal Secretary of State.
That being said, on a personal level, I hate this choice.
And THAT being said, I wish her well.

I think Hillarycare was my main beef with her. I think carpetbagging her way into the senate, largely based on her husband's name contributed. I think that catering to Bill's escapades in the interest of her own political gain contributed also. And finally -- and I fully admit this isn't fair -- I just don't care for the "vibe" she gives off.
But like I said, I give her credit for the tools she brings to the table. Whether I care for her or not ultimately doesn't matter.

Actually, you're reminding me of something I really liked about the TV show The Equalizer. Specifically, the character Control. (Robert Lansing.)
I really liked the character because (despite being The Equalizer's friend), he was a lying, manipulative, bastige. No ethics whatsoever. And The Equilizer (and everybody else who worked for Control) knew it.
I liked the character because part of me thinks that's exactly the kind of person you want to be in charge of your spies.
(Although obviously, I could see potential drawbacks to that, too.)

Yeah, she definitely worked the system and sold her soul to get where she is, but she is also smart and mean, both of which are good things in that job.

The guy who recently lost the Presidential election was every bit as much of a carpetbagger as Hillary. But you don't see that mentioned anymore.
I suspect the same will happen with Hillary, in 20 or so years.

Like I said, the fact that I dislike her personally has very little bearing on how she'll do as Secretary. Hell, I probably should just shut up and be happy that she won't be playing with things like health care, or my taxes. :)

Dunno.
Certainly, I think the ability to lie is a job requirement. :)
Although I also suspect that the ability to have absolutely zero ego may also be required. (Something which I don't think anybody will accuse Hillary of.)
I just prefer thinking that the person in that job's #1 characteristic is integrity. Something which I don't think either Hillary or Condie have.

I think I see what you're saying, Larry. But on the other hand, who among us would have dared to question Colin Powell's integrity? And we see how that turned out.

In my mind H_H's description that GACOLB references describes a "qualified" person. Or really a "successful" person. Someone like Madeline Albright would be considered a "very qualified" person. I actually think that she is one of the more under qualified SecStates we have had in quite some time...at least in terms of international/diplomatic experience

I still don't (question his integrity). When he endorsed Obama, I was really hoping Obama had worked out a deal for Powell to return to the Cabinet, somewhere. (I'd also wondered about him being Veep, but figured that wouldn't have been good, politically.)

The ego point is a very good one in my mind. She is charged with executing President Obama's policy...not her own.
Integrity is absolutely important as well.
Add in the potential perception of impropriety based on the foreign contributions to the Clinton Foundation and I think we could have found a better place for her in the administration...if a place was "owed" to her

It's one of those "unanswerable" questions, IMO.
Did Powell know the Iraq intel was bad, and bold-faced lie because he was a good soldier? Or was he a doofus and a tool?
On second thought. It IS answerable, I'd just prefer that it wasn't.
