$15M Lawsuit claims ex-Met Roberto Alomar had sex knowing he had AIDS
Baseball great Roberto Alomar (http://www.nydailynews.com/topics/Roberto+Alomar) has full-blown AIDS but insisted on having unprotected sex, his ex-girlfriend charged Tuesday in a bombshell lawsuit.
The shocking claim was leveled by Ilya Dall (http://www.nydailynews.com/topics/Ilya+Dall), 31, who said she lived with the ex-Met for three years and watched in horror as his health worsened.
In papers filed in state and federal court, Dall said Alomar finally got tested in January 2006 while suffering from a cough, fatigue and shingles.
"The test results of him being HIV-positive was given to him and the plaintiff on or about Feb.6, 2006," the $15 million negligence suit says.
Nine days later, the couple went to see a disease specialist who discovered a mass in the retired second baseman's chest, the court papers say.
Alomar's skin had turned purple, he was foaming at the mouth and a spinal tap "showed he had full-blown AIDS," the suit says.
Alomar, 41, who quit baseball over health issues in 2005, could not be reached for comment.

Dammmmn thats messed up he did in fact know about it and still had sex with others. He is going to die anyway, but those that suffered because of him should get more than 15mil out of it IMO.

180K directly into the bloodstream.
Seriously, wow.
She shouldn't have a case, if she suspected anything at all she should have gone with him while he got tested and asked to see the paper saying negative. You can't take anyones word for it.

I disagree. If true it is messed up, but everyone should assume they can catch something from their partners unless they actually see test results.
Making him pay would also discourage people from getting tested to begin with. If you don't know, then you can't get sued.

I always thought once you got full-blown AIDS you were pretty much counting down the days. I mean Eazy E went to the hospital and a week later he was dead. So when it said 2006 he had that, I thought it was bull****. Looking it up though it says someone can live up to 5 years with full-blown AIDS. That is some amazing advances in medication.
A lot of suspicious, confusing stuff going on here, including his revelation that he was raped by two men.

I have to disagree because you can get a test and be clean, then 3 months later to 6 months or a year down the road you find out you are positive. Aids can incubate in the body as HIV for years before showing any symptoms or showing up as positive as full blown AIDS, who knows how long he had HIV before it turned to full blown AIDS.
IMO its stories like this that should MAKE people realize they need to get tested, not frown or stray away from it.

If he's claiming thats how he got it, it means he played his entire career with HIV.
Crazy...
Hope Mary Pierce is okay.

Last time I got tested scared the **** out me. I was told I wouldn't hear anything back if it was negative. So one day they call me down to doctors for my test results. I was sick. I was sitting in the waiting room, sweating, bobbing, weaving, feeling queasy as hell. Then they called me in and told me it was negative. The original nurse had the setup wrong. Stupid ****.

I wonder if he is Bi-Sexual. I always thought he was just from the eye test. I don't mean that in a gay bashing way, the statistics on AIDS just support it.
Only 11% of men who have AIDS, got it through sex with a woman. 59% got it through sex with another man.
Edit: just read the claim about him being raped by 2 men.

Which would be bull****. I suspect the rape story was possibly made to cover up some homosexual affair. Obviously that's not the only way to get it but outside of IV drug use it's the easiest way (and maybe even the easiest period? IDK.) I mean the whole sequence of sickness, revelations, tests, etc is just weird.

She wasn't there. I would've gone off though. That time in the waiting room was probably the worst I've ever felt.

I can see that.

I think it's possible. I mean think about it. He finds out he has AIDS. He knows he got it from a gay affair. He comes from a culture that really, REALLY looks down on that type of thing. So he comes up with a story to cover it. He says he was 17 because being raped as an adult is not believable and would make him look like a ***** if it was.
Lol, obviously this is pure speculation but I wouldn't be shocked if that's how it went down.

I can see that...I mean, the fact that he's claiming that it happened when he was 17 means that it occurred in 1985...too long ago for anyone to confirm or deny it.
I guess the question is how long can someone carry HIV before it turning to full blown AIDS.
But your scenario makes a lot of sense, too.

Some people that get HIV never get full blown aids (i dont think Magic Johnson has AIDS yet, look how long hes had HIV) but i think the % for those that do get full blown aids is higher than those that dont, at least i would think.

Yeah, but Magic got treatment right away. He's kept himself in great shape since he found he had it...he's got awesome medical treatment. IIRC, there was an article out a few years ago where doctors said that they couldn't even find it in his bloodstream....he's pretty much done what was thought to be the impossible.
If the articles claims against Alomar are true...he's never received treatment (until it was too late).

First of all, she's an idiot for taking a professional athlete's word that he doesn't have anything and have unprotected sex with him one month into a relationship. Seriously, that's just ridiculous.
Second of all, she's an idiot for CONTINUING UNPROTECTED sexual intercourse with a man who's health she is witnessing deteriorate rapidly with classic signs of HIV infection. Frickin A, I would have gone bonkers if my guy kept on dismissing medical advice to get tested. Heck, I raise hell when my guy doesn't get a physical or go to the doctor when I tell him he needs to.
I'm not saying he was in the right here, that's messed up for insisting on unprotected sex with a partner when you have such serious health issues...most likely caused by HIV...whether you're in denial or not.
However, you also shouldn't get $15 million for being a moron.

I heard a long time ago that he was gay. And that when a writer wrote that he was having an affair with a Met and everyone thought it was Piazza (remember Mike having to proclaim his heterosexuality?), it was actually Alomar.

wow, pretty shocking stuff here. I kinda agree with Keeastman....that chick was stupid for laying with Alomar when she knew he wasn't healthy. He's a real dick to do that to someone, but at the same time how stupid is she?

Your title says New York Times, but the article is from a gossip column in the New York Daily News. You might want to change it to be accurate.

Anyone who doesn't get tested and has unprotected sex is putting themselves at risk for AIDS. Everyone knows this. What they may not know is they probably have HPV, and maybe chlamydia. Glad I'm married.

If true, good luck to him. Not necessarily in the lawsuit, but his health.
