I think that we just want some hope about something. I was very anti-Haynesworth until his press conference. We're just dying for something, anything.
Plus, what else are we going to do? Spend time with our families? Psh.

Its hard for any NFL not to get caught up in the early days of FA.....but having said that I have always backed Danny in his efforts to help the team's play on the field by spending money on whom his coaches asked for....He was raw in his first few years and inherited the disease Norvola but I view him as a changed person who still wants to win(but gave Gibbs total control and even that didn't work) and still will do whatever from his pockets that his coaches say they need for their systems. Its a tough racket but I'd take an owner with passion and pockets for their team....eventually Charlie Brown will kick that football and be holding the trophy that is as tall as his torso. :)

And it's exciting to have something to be excited about. Sure, he may turn out to be Stubblefield/Wilkinson all rolled into a WTF contract, but like Larry said, he's OUR "WTF?!" contract now.
And maybe, just maybe, we did something right here. The thought of bolstering our defense with someone like him, combined with a happy Rogers, a Hall who has the whole offseason, a Taylor who may perform like we wanted, and some new blood at linebacker, is pretty damned cool. If we can have a defense that just absolutely dominates, plus a kicker, then a Ravens-esque, offensive offense-less offense Super Bowl isn't THAT far off.
As of February 27, 2009, anyway.

He'd have to be better than he was last year, play all 16 games instead of 12-14, and do it for 6 years to be worth the money.
It's not going to happen. The signing was a joke and every other team in the league is laughing at the Redskins, again. Not quite as bad as making Archuleta the highest paid safety in the league but you have to consider that Haynesworth now costs 3-4 times as much as some very good players at the position. We could have signed an entire decent DL for that much.
I wonder what the price of Pittsburgh's or the Giants DL is in comparison to just 100M for Haynesworth. Thats over 16Mil a year. 4 good players would cost less than 4 Mil each.
Now next year when we still have fewer sacks than those teams what will they do next?

Nope, and as TK foreshadowed, it will change in a few days. And you can project ahead to that it will be like even if Hall and AH play great and move us up a couple notches to #2 or #3 on defense, but our O still ends up holding us back. Then it will be what a giant stupid waste all this was and how "we all knew that." :)

We also haven't seen any moves on offense, either. Dockery is still a possibility as well as Brown (last I checked, but I've been distracted from ES by some stupid paper). Really, we're just looking for a line, a more settled Campbell, and Thomas and/or Kelly to step it up. Our first half of 2008 shows that we have most of the pieces in place, we just need to use them well. Contrary to popular belief, even my own at times, we're not the worst team in the history of world. We need to show up in the first and fourth quarters, and the middle two will work themselves out. That's our problem, and that's solvable with most of the people that we have now, and more should be on the way.

I'm not happy at all about AH, I could see keeping hall and cutting springs. AH's contract compromises our ability to retain our young guys (Campbell, Rocky, Landy, Rodgers, Monty, Gloston, Horton). I have been against going for AH all along but will wait until the season to see if he is worth all that money.
All I know is we better draft an OT to start on week 1 and not ride the bench! OT 1st round, make a trade to move into the 2nd to get a LOLB.

I'm lukewarm about dock, and also hold to the idea that it's going to be mainly on Davis, Kelly, Thomas, Zorn, & JC to all step up even after helping the o-line. Hence my comment about not going to get too excited until I hear about what camp looks like, and moreso, preseason game activity. Not trying to downplay AH (I think he's a great player and should really help) or even Hall, just been around too long and am too smart to be too glandular at this point in our situation.

I'm thinkin our D is going to be really good and even the harshest critics had to admit he's one of the best D lineman in the league in their Snyder bashes. I'll reserve judgment on the Snyd. But I can't help but remember how it always feels good in the spring.

You would feel ok with Fincher and Blades starting at LOLB? I don't. I guess since that'll be the 1 weak spot on defense it could be worse. Maybe we'll find Horton 2.0 at the LB spot in the draft.

Well, SOMETHING will come along on the line. We're not just going to let that sit there for six months. Remember that, we have half a year until we actually have to see this offense out there. It'll be a full offseason: the rest of free agency, the draft, OTAs, mini-camps, training camp, and the preseason. I really don't think that it's possible for those you mentioned to do anything but improve over that time. I think that they've shown that they can get it done; they just need to do it consistently.

Why, exactly, wouldn't you? They've *only* performed well when they're on the field. Fincher was lighting it up in the preseason, and Blades is always good when he comes on. Just because you're not starting doesn't mean that you're not capable.

Well, he was under Bugel for about five minutes before he left. He worked better in this system, though, and now he's back. He is, like you said, solid, and he does still have potential. And five years at $26 million with $8.5 guaranteed? I'll take that.
On another positive, he's also proof that we won't always overpay for mediocrity. We let him go and he came back.

As you may have been able to tell from the three years that I've been here, it's very easy for me to find something wrong.
To be honest, I can't find anything wrong with this free agency period. I'm still a little iffy on Haynesworth, but so far, we've done a pretty A-/A job.

I normally just lurk around the Stadium in the offseason. There isn't really any thing truly going on so there isn't much to talk about. I think that us die hards get a little bit anxious in the offseason so we *****, moan and argue with each other. Now that there is truly news to be had, the people are in a general sense of bliss.
In a few days or a week, the Stadium will be back to its usual self. Then the draft will come, along with all of the scrutiny that stems from the draft. After that we get a little bit of a layover until training camp.
The Stadium is cyclic. I don't watch it all that much in the offseason, but I know exactly what is going on.

This edition: reading for months all the anti-Snyder, anti-big-spending, anti-big-name signings, and now (typically) the widespread joy at the signing of AH. :)
You guys are nuts. You belong on extremeskins. :point2sky
:cool2:
Hey man, I put up a poll ASKING if we've all been bought off by Snyder with these signings. I admitted to being neutral/positive because he can't spend stupid money now on "skill" (no skill) players. Overspend on the lines and cornerbacks not named Deion Sanders.

Wait until Haynesworth phones it in for a few years or gets injured. Then people will turn on him like they did with Big Daddy and Stubby. Me, I've been disappointed too many times to buy into this nonsense. If I go in with zero expectations I can't be disapponted. It's the Lion fan mentality, and it's going to infiltrate this fanbase like syphillis. Wait and see.

I think?

"We at the ESBI do not have a sense of humor we're aware of."
This is a great thread, Jumbo. I think if you guys were to interact with the posters more often, there would be less dissension and some of those punished for their transgressions would have less resentment if they saw the "real you" of the mods coming through. I've been seeing you all posting more, and I like it. :D

I'm hitting myself because I didn't even find out until about an hour ago.
:slap:I do have to admire you for being willing to admit that.
I normally just lurk around the Stadium in the offseason. Me too. It's very difficult to express a comment or opinion which hasn't already been made 10x already. That's also true for any new thread one might want be tempted to start.

Reading the WP this morning listing potential problems:
Elbows - dislocations caused him to miss 3 games in 2003 and 6 games in 2004.
Right hammy - strain bothered him in 2007
Left knee - Sprain kept him out of two games in 2005 and two games in 2007.
