View Full Version : Springs to Pats?

For the past 24 hours, it has been pointed out that trading QB Matt Cassel to the Kansas City Chiefs freed up $14.65 million (http://www.nfl.com/news/story?id=09000d5d80efe755&template=with-video-with-comments&confirm=true) against the New England Patriots’ salary cap.
But LB Mike Vrabel also was included in the deal, and trading him freed up another $3.35 million against the cap.
So with one trade, the Patriots saved a whopping $18 million that they can now use on other players. And it doesn’t look like they will waste a lot of time. Former Washington Redskins CB Shawn Springs is scheduled to visit the Patriots today.

Hmm. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

At least it's out of the division. Hope the best for Shawn.

Considering most of us thought he would go straight to dallas.. this is definitely a plus.

Some of us saw this coming as very likely (the Pats are smart and also know how to get the most out of a guy's overall potential) and were talking about in other threads. I hope it's true, because it should be good for Shawn.

Good for him. If this goes though, I'm sure he'll do well for them for the 7 or 8 games he'll be healthy for. Like others said I'll just be happy if he stays outta Dallass.

I wouldn't mind if he went to Dallas. Then he can sit on their bench and make them look stupid.

Hope he has fun matching up against Randy Moss in practice. :)

I bet Bill Belicheck gets him to play if he is 95% healthy.

As long as Shawn doesn't end up in NY, Philly or Dallas...I'm rooting for him hard wherever he goes...

I'd be happy if Shawn ended up in NE.

Belischek is smart. He probably is only paying him for four games cause he figures he won't last past that.

Or he'll put him back at Safety.

No kidding. :)

It may be watching him work on TO that led them to figure he could at least give Randy a decent practice.

I'm interested to see what kind of money he ends up signing with someone for. He had value to us, but only on a much smaller salary than the $6m he was due.

That aside, good luck to the man.

Springs at 34 is a one year rental. For a team like NE that has holes on defense but an offense (if Brady is healthy) that is ready to contend, bringing Springs on board isn't a bad idea.

He is a better cover corner than Dominique Foxworth whom the Ravens lavished money on and on a one year deal with the hope of a ring, I am sure Springs' salary demands will be muted this time around.

Shawn is good value at $2.5M under the cap but not $8.0M under the cap.

You wait and see... Springs is going to get a 2-year.... $7-8M deal. And frankly, I wouldn't be surprised if it was $6M ($3M per).

Which is obviously cheaper than he was to the Redskins.

Gotta love the Pats... they do it right. Picking up players at their "low"... but players that still have 1-2 good seasons left in them.... like the Fred Taylor signing.

I think they'll be under the radar next year... but I think they'll kick some arse.

Don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out Springs.

Peace out SS!! Doesn't matter who he goes to, he is done. He's been done for a while, and we kept believing he was good enough to play for us. Seattle released him years ago knowing he was done. Go somewhere else and steal their millions while you are "injured".

The Hateriots... They tried to embarass Joe Gibbs in the game that made me hate Tom Brady for life. I'd love to knock these prima donas off in the Superbowl like the Giants did. Oh yeah.

Springs?....plays 1 or 2 good games then develops some calf injury for 6 weeks, then is mediocre for the rest of the season.....same pattern....glad to have him out!

WTH are you talking about???? Springs is still an elite level corner and was a helluva good player for us since he arrived here. Injury problems have hampered him, not his level of talent.

Makes sense for him, if he's healthy.

He's made a lot of money. Now he COULD be part of a superbowl team.

I thought Dallas also, but that was assuming a team like NE wasn't interested. Springs knows going to Dallas doesn't mean a realistic shot at a title.

The Cowboys traded Anthony Henry and cut Pacman so I wouldn't be surprised if Springs ends up there...

Tried to? They utterly embarassed the old goat.

I can only wish Springs the best. Despite his health issues, when he was on the field, the D was a better unit.

Good luck to him.

I hope Shawn does go to the Patriots and has a great time there and is successfull with them (unless there's a game we have to play against them, of coarse). :)
