Hello!
So i opted to go to bowling tomorrow and go to the Rangers Flyers game Saturday, with my spanking brand new Carter jersey...so i'll be watching the game in between my ugly splits and missed spare attempts!
I just read that the Caps have been struggling at home? has it been brutal? I guess I wish this was an away game for Philly then...however it's the best time for hockey and match ups like this are phenomenal games to watch.
I dont know with the Caps - but my impression is they don't have the depth the Flyers do, however, when their first line is on depth isn't needed (:(). Lupul has been hot getting his 20th goal, putting the Flyers at 6 players with at least 20 goals and 40 points.
So good luck!

honestly, the caps had two bad home games, and then two decent home games that they happened to lose.
as for depth, we've probably got one of the deepest teams in the league. the Ovechkin-Backstrom-Kozlov line is always a threat to score. The Fleischmann-Fedorov-Semin line is always a threat, especially when Semin is on his game like he has been lately. Laich-Steckel-Fehr can really put the pressure on, Laich usually setting the screen, Steckel putting on the forecheck and moving the puck, and Fehr crashing the net looking for opportunites. the Brash-Gordo-Bradley line can pin a team in their own zone and tire their D out. I would like to see them shoot the puck more often, though.
While you have 6 players with 20 goals or more, you also have the same amount of players with 10 goals or more. Those 6 put up all your scoring. Aside from our star Goal-scorers (Ovie, Semin, Green), the scoring is more spread out amongst our team between Fleichmann, Laich, Backstrom, Fehr, and Kozlov. For those who aren't our big goal-scorers, we have some assist men. Factor in the fact that we've lost so many man-hours to injury, some of those other guys could be higher up in the scoring.
We have 9 players with .20 goals per game or better, you have 8, but that includes Danny Brier who's not really played in enough games for that statistic to matter and Claude Giroux who's only got 25 games which still isn't that many. after those 8, you've got one player with 1.1 G/G and then the rest under .10 G/G.
So I'd say both teams have depth, but just different kinds of depth. You have more 20 goal-scorers, but then everyone else in the single digits while we've got a few more guys with a few less goals but putting up decent G/G

It is not secret that the Flyers are in the Caps heads. It is also no secret they are a good team that plays tough hockey and has some scorers. I have a feeling that this will be the last time these teams see each other for some time. With the Caps likely to get the 2 or 3 seed in the playoffs and the Flyers likely to get the 4 seed I don't see them playing in the playoffs. Only way it happens is in the EC Finals. If that happens..... well I just don't know how I would handle that. Heart attacks and drunkeness come to mind imediately.

If Brash can't go tomorrow night, we might have our hands full with the Flyers playing overly dirty or physical towards our skilled guys. I don't think Bradley will be fighting tomorrow because of all the stitches he has...and while it was great to see Big John go toe-to-toe w. Belak, but he has been reluctant to drop the gloves since his concussion issues. I'm just hoping that some of the goons on Philly don't start taking runs at our guys. Asham, Cote, Carcillo, and most importantly...Hartnell. They play dirty, and might go over the top with some of their tactics if they know that they won't be dealt with. I'm hoping for a Caps win, but we are going to have an up-hill battle in missing some of our toughness in the line-up.

Hey London - I said "have been struggling at home".....DO YOU REALIZE THEY HAVE 4 straight losses at home? for a team that was 25-5-2 at home...that is struggling :)
Yea, if Brash does not play - then they def will play dirty...Cote may actually WIN a fight hahaha. :box:
PP - There is NO DOUBT that the Capitals O is a better scoring machine...and I misunderstood Semin and Ovi playing on 2 separate lines. I guess also i was looking at the fact that i always see Ovi/Semin in lights...and not as much as the other guys.

Knowing Bradley, that won't stop him from fighting. did you see his face when he was stepping into the locker room after the fight? He was bloody as hell, but the expression on his face didn't match the color. I'm not too worried about him "playing it safe".

I respect the hell out of the guy, but fighting is just not his thing. I can't remember the last time I've seen him fight and get the upper hand. He should be our instigator. Rough up the other team's tough guys and when they drop the gloves don't retaliate. His face will still end up the same, but at least we'll get the PP. ;)

whether he wins or not is a whole other issue. He may not get the KO, but he can take hits from the best of them. You don't need to win the fight to accomplish your mission, you just need to get the boys riled up and express to the other team that you're not gonna take their crap.

Looks like it's almost a certainty that Brash will be out tonight. He's going to be replaced by none other than super Swede, which equates to zippy toughness aside from Erskine tonight (Bradley apparently has to wear a visor because his face is pretty messed up, so don't expect him to mix it up much/nor would I want him to ;) ).
I hope the boys are ready for a rough night. As long as we don't get frustrated and retaliate, I suspect a lot of PP's tonight. However, if they get in Ovie's head, I expect him to try and retaliate often, resulting in a fewer amount. I really hope BB is talking to them about the fact that winning the game is far more important than trying to win the physical battles.

Philly has already won the season series and they dominated it pretty much. They'll be in the business of message sending tonight and it could get ugly. Brads is bruised and cut so he won't be going with anyone, Brash is out. I'd be willing to bet that Erskine goes with Asham or Cote at some point this evening because some stuff is going to go down. The guy that worries me the most is Dan Carcillo, he's mean, he's dirty and he can throw with anybody. He's a guy we have no answer for. We'll see if anybody has any pride tonight because all of our regular "tough guys" are out or playing hurt. They'll either fight back or lay down and let the Flyers beat the hell out of them. It's their choice.

I don't want Erskine throwing anymore with his concussion history. I'd like to see Jurcina grab his sack and thrash someone like Girly Cote.
It's games like this that must be hard on a coach. My temptation would be to call up a body from Hershey and if this game got out of hand I'd put them out there to hurt someone. I know that sounds terrible but that's how I feel about my hockey team. If Philly takes liberties with Brash out and God forbid they hurt one of our players I'd give a dispensable player Carte Blanche to make a statement. Eye for an eye is the only law that would apply here.

I don't think Juice is very adept in the art of fighting. He only has one career Pro fight and that was when he was with Boston and it was more or less self defense because Eric Goddard jumped him. Nobody, I mean nobody, in our lineup tonight has more than 3 pro fights with the exception of Erskine and Bradley and both of those guys aren't in tip top fighting shape. Steckel, Laich and Poti are the only guys with multiple NHL fights and Poti hasn't fought since the lockout.
And it's not a question of "if" Philly takes liberties, it's a question of "when" Dan Carcillo takes a run at a Green, Semin, or Ovechkin.
EDIT: I would've much prefered that Boudreau call up a guy like Jay Beagle who can actually handle himself rather than insert Nylander, but I don't know if they were allowed an emergency recall when they had an extra forward.

We don't have the muscle to do much of anything against their tough guys when it comes to dropping gloves. Poti, I suspect, will have to do the honors with Erskine, but I don't like the idea of him being in the box for 5 minutes, so I'm hoping he won't give in to frustration.
That being said, we need to try to out-finesse them, and hope the refs call the dirty ****.

Suprised that Philly didn't try anything funny, but that's fine with me. I think they hurt themselves by playing the Caps straight, they can't beat us that way.
Officiating was bad both ways tonight.
Great work on that first powerplay, that was textbook. Good job by Laich going to the goal, it's exactly what we needed.
Nick Backstrom has the ability to absolutely take over whenever he feels like it and I wish he would go into beast mode more often. He's going to be really special. I can't wait to see what he does in the playoffs.
Alex Semin had another great game and a sick pass to Ovie for the GWG.
Ovechkin was awesome and deserved 2 or 3 goals tonight, that whole first line was feeling it.
Great game by Theodore, he was out of position at times but he recovered well and had some good luck. Great win and hopefully this short road trip got us back on track.

The last two games have been two of my favorite games of the year. They were playoff type games. I hate to say it but Biron and Nitty stand on their F'in heads when they play us. I thought the Flyers played their worst game of the season series last night. They seemed to be the ones pressing and the refs got to them.
On to the Hurricanes. These guys need a whooping. We could very well play them in the first round and they need to know their role as fodder for the caps. Coming home off two big wins should have VC jumping again.

The officiating over the last few games has me losing my mind. And I'm not suggesting that it has been to the Caps' opponents' favor, either. So many missed calls, so many fake penalties, and worst of all, no consistency. I don't know what's going on, but I don't remember another season where I'm left shaking my head after each game wondering what the hell the officiating crew was thinking.
