Green and Fedorov are back. Let's dominate and maybe Ovechkin gets #50 tonight making history yet again!

Ok, let's hope the Caps get a goal or 2 in the second period. The first period was a little boring.

The Caps need to put the shots on blocker-side. Vokoun's glove is just too good. Laich's goal came blocker-side. If they put it blocker-side and he stops it, there's still a loose puck.

I just made my casual support for this team official when my new hat came in the mail today. That 2nd goal came the moment I tuned into the radio broadcast so things are looking good. Now, if they do end up tanking the season somehow, it's my fault and I'm sorry but I have a ticket to the game in Tampa and there's no way I'm supporting the home team.

Yeah I just switched to NHL network, saw him cutting the net. This is more exciting than our Caps game...sorry. The Caps game is kinda boring tonight.

Yeah, Greenie sealed the deal. Good job Caps w/the shut out & win (I highly doubt FL will get 3 goals in 50 seconds).

Finally we're on the winning end if of a shutout. Wings are coming back, now up 3-2 on Philly. Pittsburgh is trouncing the Thrashers after we laid an egg against them.

That is as complete a D game we have played in a very long time
0 shots allowed in the 3rd. Very nice win boys
Magic number is now9 points to clinch the division

I'm 2-0 with a blowout last year and now a shutout to my credit. Am I welcome yet as a semi-fan? Maybe after I actually go to a game on Thursday?

secondary scoring, solid PK with a shorty, as good of a Defensive effort as they've put forth this season, Shutout and solid play by Theodore, no shots allowed in the 3rd period...man if Florida had actually tried tonight it would've been even more impressive :ols:
Shutouts and defensive efforts like that are nothing to scoff at, that's a solid win and the type of game that the Caps needed to have to at least prove to themselves that they can win with strong D, no need to simply outgun everyone 5-4. Hopefully they've found something to build on and maybe they'll stop thinking that they're "too cool for school" and start realizing that Bruce is preaching hard work and defense for a reason. Feels good to outwork and put the clamps on a desperate team.

Why do we want Philly to lose? Personally I'd prefer they and Pitt keep on winning so they guarantee the 4 and 5 seeds...

eh, it doesn't matter really. Philly and Pitt are all but guaranteed those 4 and 5 seeds. The Rangers are garbage except for the PK and the shootout, the Habs are way too inconsistent to string together enough wins to challenge those two, the Canes don't play defense, the Panthers apparently don't want to even make the playoffs, and the Sabres are too far out of it. We like to see Philly lose, it's that simple.

Good win tonight from the Caps, they could have played better, but they certainly played a lot better than what we have seen for the past couple of weeks.
Hopefully they can keep this going.

I just hate seeing Pittsburgh win and love seeing Philadelphia lose.
Glad to see we got a shutout that wasn't ruined in the last two minutes lol. Should've had a few more this season.

kinda hard to spoil a shutout when there aren't any shots on goal the entire final period :)

We only got 2 points from the game last night? I thought you were given a point for each power play stop, shouldn't that have been 3 or 4 points alone?

you get two points for winning, just like pretty much any other sport. only difference is that hockey gives out one point to a team that loses in overtime.

So that's it?
Win = 2 points
Loss = 0 points
OT whether win or loss = 1 point?

OT loss = 1 point bro
OT win = 2 points
The whole OT/SO points thing is fudged but all teams get the same treatment

I'm confused, about the loss in regular play.
If you lose without going into OT, do you get a point loss or just none?

0 for a loss in regulation
1 point for a loss in OT/shootout
2 points for any Win.
If you hear people complaining about 3 point games they're referring to Overtime/Shootout games where the loser gets a point. In the old days it was 2 for a win...1 point to each team in a tie...0 points for the loser no matter what. It's weird to most people that some games can be worth 3 points and others only worth 2. It's a reason the playoff races are so complicated and it's a reason it's nearly impossible to catch teams from behind. It makes our comeback last year even more impressive. It's the reason the Rangers will make the playoffs this year and a team like Florida will be left out.
