NEW YORK (AP) - Investigators suspect two African immigrants slain at a Long Island condo owned by an NFL player may have been killed as revenge for an Internet scam, police said Tuesday.

Sekou Sakor and Ansu Keita were each shot in the head sometime Thursday night at a condominium in Woodbury, N.Y., owned by Jonathan Vilma (http://www.extremeskins.com/nfl/player/200317). There were no arrests.




The New Orleans Saints (http://www.extremeskins.com/nfl/team/new-orleans-saints) linebacker and former New York Jets (http://www.extremeskins.com/nfl/team/new-york-jets) player was not there at the time and not believed to be involved, said New York Police Department spokesman Paul Browne. Browne said investigators believe the victims may have been mixed up in a so-called "black money" scheme. Victims are sent e-mails saying that cash smuggled from overseas — stained black to avoid detection — can be purchased at a discount; what they receive is a trunk full of worthless paper

Holy crap! I hope Vilma was not involved at all.
I hope the Nigerians delivering my International Lottery Winnings weren't involved either. I already told off my boss and quit my job. :(

Vilma is one of the many U players who works out in Miami, so he wouldn't be there. I also doubt he spends much time there since he left the Jets.

As for why those guys were there, it is possible that he had friends living there or he rented his condo out to someone.

I sincerely hope he had nothing to do with it but as PFT points out the whole "I don't even live there" excuse is the same one Vick was peddling at this point in his investigation.

I would be surprised if Vilma got ripped off by these guys while trying to purchase black money, and was involved in getting them murdered. I think he has more than enough of his own cash to stay away from any scheme like that.

I think Longshot maybe had it better off with his guess: he plays in New Orleans now and lives in Miami, he probably just rents that place out in Long Island.

There is an article that was linked by the thread starter, it seems no one read it because the police already stated that Vilma is not involved and that they want to question a family member that has access to the condo

It happens because these people are given a lot of money and fame suddenly and they don't know how to handle it.
