It’s Christmas time again for Snyder and his idiot lackeys…so time to open up all the shiny new presents...the term player is a metaphor for signing big name FA’s…sarcasm off...
Last season came the emergence of a tall, strong, young pro-bowl QB who had a great year…everyone raved about how the skins should sign him and he could save our franchise…I heard very similar arguments last year that I am hearing today…maybe not all the rave but still enough to draw comparisons…
THE REDSKINS SHOULD SIGN DERRICK ANDERSON
I have heard the argument on several occasions…why wouldn’t you want a 25yr pro-bowl QB? Aside from one great year, there are several other obvious factors that I think you MUST take into consideration…which some people here aren’t.
System…every system is unique and every player isn’t suited for every system…so to say Cutler will be great hear because we run the West Coast offense is idiotic…how did the “system” work out for player like Kitna & Culpepper…of which one was a young pro-bowl/NFL MVP player & the other was considered a pro-bowl caliber player as well….let me answer that for you…not well.
Film…after about 10-12 games, opposing teams can compose enough film on NFL QB’s to figure out certain tendencies…this is why in order to measure success of a QB at the pro-level, it has to be over a multiple year period…Derrick Anderson would fall into this category…if you look at his production towards the end of his 2007 season into the 2008 season, his numbers dropped dramatically…was this a stroke of misfortune…did Anderson all of a sudden lose confidence…forget how to throw, etc…
Surrounding Cast….you don’t throw for 4500+ yards without a pass-oriented style offense along with playmakers to aid you…Brandon Marshall is better than every WR on our team and I think Eddie Royal (2nd receiver) draws a lot of similarity to Santana Moss…also Cutler was only sacked 11 times…compare that to JC who was sacked last season 38 times….pressure on the QB = check down passes which lowers your yards per reception(average)…it not like the skins don’t want to go downfield, its that they cant because they don’t have the protection…Getting Cutler might eliminate some of the sacks, “they” say he has better pocket awareness and has a quicker release…but if you cant block for your QB it wont matter.
2007 we dodged the bullet with Anderson because the Browns locked him up…I thought the same was true this year because Cassel was franchised…Of course Snyder has seemly found another way to mismanage this organization into a video game like setting where all players are interchangeable regardless of system, coaching , team, etc…
I don’t know what its going to take for Snyder to learn his lesson….a square peg will never fit into a round hole
