Who's your favorite Oriole of all time and why?

Mine is Cal... too easy a choice, but I've been to a ton of Oriole games and after every single one, he stayed behind and signed autographs until the last fan was gone. Not once, but EVERY time I've been to an O's game when he was on the team. In comparison, Billy Ripken literally ran out of the players exit and jumped into a waiting car one time, before anyone could recognize him and sped away. Cal may not have been the greatest player that MLB ever saw, but like my other favorite player, George Brett, they played for the same team, passed on chances to go to a bigger market to make more money and treated the fans with the utmost respect.
I hope Cal's a first ballot HOFer...

This could become a very repetitive thread but I'll chime in...

Mine is Cal too. I started following baseball in 85 or 86 and he was just awesome! I loved the 1991 sports season due to Cal's unreal numbers and the Skins super bowl.

That being said, I would say (if you take Cal out of the equation) that I do have a random O that I loved for no reason. Chris Hoiles...the guy wasn't even that good but he seemed to come up with some HUGE hits.

One game he hit a GS in the bottom of the ninth when the O's were down 3. It was great. Then he seemed to always go yard off Randy Johnson when the O's would beat the Mariners (including Game 1 of their playoff series in 1997 when people thought that Randy would propel Seattle to the series win because he could pitch 2 times in 5 games).

Cal of course, but after that it gets interesting. I don't remember the older guys like Boog, Palmer, or Brooks Robinson. But Eddie Murray was always a favorite of mine, and if he hadn't left Mike Mussina would have been at the top of the list.

I am torn between Cal and Eddie... I always loved going to the games with Murray up and everyone chanting, "Eddie... Eddie.. Eddie..."

What a coincidence, my favorite Oriole of all time is Cal Ripken too.

It's a toss up between Eddie Murray and Cal. It seemed like whenever it was crunch time Eddie always came through. His numbers speak for themselves. I like Cal but by a hair it's EDDIE,EDDIE,EDDIE:notworthy

LOL...maybe this thread should have been called "Who's your all time favorite Oriole......... Besides Cal."

In that case... It would probably be Mickey Tettleton. Not that he's a hall of famer or anything, but I met him a couple of times and he was really nice and down to earth.

I like Jeffrey Hammonds. I know its kinda a weird pick but i really liked that guy i thought he was cool. I think its cause he played for them when i was like in elementary to middle school age and i liked guys that were flashy. And he was the fast/flashy guy that i liked.

The Jeffrey Hammonds pick is unique. I am a prospect watcher and tend to pull for the guy who I watch work his way up to the bigs.

I had high hopes for Alex Ochoa and Jeffrey Hammonds. I was disappointed that neither of them became stars in MLB. Currently, Luis Matos and Jay Gibbons are my favorites.

All-time favorite Oriole - Rick Dempsey!!!!

Currently, Luis Matos and Jay Gibbons are my favorites.

Those are my two favorite O's right now too. I think they are going to be a good OF tandem in this league!

Never a big fan of the O's (I am a Red's fan) but recently I got to meet Jim Palmer in person.

Said he was a Skins fan back in the day.

That made him my favorite O ;).

Cal's too easy.

If he's not, then all the voters shoud be shot.

I personally loved the way Cal played, I have a signed copy of his autobiography, but I would have to say that Brooks Robinson is my favorite O, the way he handled the hot corner is incomprable.

Currently, I would have to say that my favorite O's are Luis Matos and Brian Roberts. Don't know if Roberts will be around when Hairston's foot gets better, but he's done an excellent job filling in at 2nd in Hairston's absence. I've also always been a big fan of BJ Surhoff--all he does is give 100% everytime he steps in between the lines.

Currently-- Jerry Hairston. Mainly because I met him at a mutual friends party. I ended up giving him a ride back to Baltimore, when his ride fell through. I was able to go to about 4 games for free. I would have gone more often but, I’m not that into baseball anymore.

All Time – Cal. No question
