Does Carpenter still have a spot on Dallas' roster?

April 28, 2009

Posted by ESPN.com's Matt Mosley

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones pretty much admitted Sunday that he drafted players based on their ability to contribute on special teams. That's usually a strategy reserved for teams with no holes, which doesn't really describe the '09 Cowboys. But now we're hearing that some of the players could help out on defensive sub-packages (http://cowboysblog.dallasnews.com/archives/2009/04/who-will-replace-kevin-burnett-in-the-ni.html). Good times are here again!

But where does Bobby Carpenter fit in on this team? The Cowboys had the chance to trade him last year (along with tight end Anthony Fasano), but they didn't do it. Noted Carpenter apologist Todd Archer of the Dallas Morning News has a column on the linebacker today (http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dws/spt/stories/042809dnspocowinsider.327d779.html).

I've always thought and still do think that this guy is not suited for the 3-4 and it was a piss poor job by the Cowboys in drafting him.

He'll get cut and go on to be a starting Will on a 4-3 team.

Honestly it is what is best for him. Bill drafted him maybe he can find success in Bills 3-4 in Miami.

He will be a Dolphin just as a soon as he is cut from Dallas.

He's Parcells' baby. Always has been, always will.

Parcells is the only guy who will be able to salvage Barbie's career.

Dallas is a sinking ship and the Dolphins are on the rise, it'll be better for him.

My sentiments as well. I never wanted Carpenter in the draft unless he played MLB in the giants 4-3. I imagined him as a trotter-like player. I dunno why he doesn't fit in Wade's Scheme or play to his potential, but when he was drafted the size and athleticism he had made him an intriguing prospect. I thought he was close to 260 and ran a sub 4.7 (could be way off). I thought he was a decent blitzer when he did play in Dallas early on, but that would of been years ago now.

I would welcome here in a 4-3 that better suits his play.

Carpenter should not have a spot on any 3-4 team. From what I've seen, I'm not sure that he should land a spot on a 4-3 team either.

The Cowboys management hasn't treated him well with all of the position switching that has been going on and Barbie hasn't done much (in the film that I've seen) to warrant any additional playing time.

A change of scenery might be best for both him and the organization.

Carpenter was as effective in a 3-4 as Where would be in a 4-3.

LOL. So Ware wouldn't get on the field in the 4-3 then? OMG. You have TOTALLY lost it.

If I were a Redskin fan, I'd be ashamed to call you a fellow fan. Seriously.

Look, I hate the Redskins, but I'm man enough to admit that even they have good players. Its called respect. I think Ware's earned it.

LOL, it would be like me saying that Portis is only good because he has Sellers blocking for him. Give me a break.

I love puke fans.

Still swallowing the hype.

Still believing they have the BEST players.

Still thinking they're favorites for the SB.

I thought last year's humiliation would be enough to temper the 'happy' talk by their faithful...especially on a rival's message board.

But no.

They continue to live in a fantasy.

Thirteen years of mediocrity.

Tied for an NFL record of one-and-dones in the playoffs.

No new players of any worth in the coming year...in fact, less talent on offense and defense...and likely a ton of rookies on STs.

Why is anyone afraid of that franchise?

I'm not.

Nice spin you tried there. Please stick to the subject.

Nothing that you said there is about this thread or in response to what I said. Imagine that, TR1 avoiding the subject. :silly:

I did address you point. You're enamored with Where...and he's an over-hyped player on an over-hyped team.

Just the facts.
