the unwritten rule of soccer is that the team denied a penalty inevitably concedes a dodgy goal...USA could do with Brazil picking the pace up in dead game

ixcuincle
June-21st-2009, 02:48 PM
So apparently USA has to win 3-0 and something has to happen in Brazil's game for USA to advance.

Soccer neophyte here thought that we'd be fine if we won 1-0 but apparently Egypt moves on if that remains the score, or if the US wins 2-0. :/

buenosdiaz
June-21st-2009, 02:50 PM
as long as italy doesnt score we're just competing with egypt right now to catch up on their goal differential

edit brazil could put up 10 but if usa only wins 2-0 egypt still advances

2-0! one more and the Italians are out and the US in! currently Egypt are still through

buenosdiaz
June-21st-2009, 02:55 PM
right now italys goal differential is -2 with 3 goals scored total

usa's is -3 with 3 goals scored

egypts is -2 with 4 goals scored

so if usa scores one more and wins 3-0 they would be -2, drop egypt to -3 (out) and win over italy based on goals scored

what i meant is that even if brazil decided to keep scoring and it ends up 5-0 if usa doesnt get to 3-0 it wont matter

Dont knock on kilmer. He is absolutely right on all his quips with the USA national team. We still put Conner Casey in for who knows what reason. I dunno how bradley could think that he would bring anything to the plate offensively. In fact his best play this tournament was the head out on the late corner today.

But ... for another day. USA! USA

I am ****ing so happy that that **** rossi is going home. How anyone can celebrate like that after scoring against the country of his birth is disgusting. What a prick.

However, Spain is gonna **** us up. We aren't organized very well defensively and we don't keep possession for more than 3 passes so im guessing 3-0 Spain and a 70-30 possession ratio. Im actually in spain for this game so it should be fun. Also i love the spanish national team coinsidering 5 LFC players play for them, Torres, Alonso, Arbeloa, Reina, and Riera. However, i would love the USA to win this competition.

Kilmer17
June-22nd-2009, 07:27 AM
Wow.

Dear Guiseppe Rossi, BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAH **** you! BWAHAHAHAHAHA.

Now, here's the thing-

1- We just proved again, that we CAN be a dangerous team with the right matchups and against a team who underestimates us. It also helps when their best player is out.

2- However, we would be remiss to not mention some glaring problems that still exist. For starters, why why WHY do you ever take Altidore out of a game? Smart move to bring in Feilhaber, and move Dempsey up top (because his defense and midfield disasters cost us a few goals recently). But you take off Davies, not Jozy.

3- When you have the result you need in hand, and STILL HAVE A ****ING SUB LEFT, you use that sub at the 90th minute to run time. I think that Bob thinks subs are like yellow cards, that they somehow get saved game to game.

4- Landon, Jozy- SHOOT THE BALL!!!!

5- Onyewu has just made himself a LOOOTTTTTTT of money. If he doesnt make the all tournament squad, it's a crime.

6- I still want Bob fired. Yes, this was a great result, but it doesnt excuse the TERRIBLE play in our last 6 matches. Go beat Spain and Brazil, then Mexico in August, then I'll believe. Otherwise, he still isnt getting it done.

7- Hey Rossi- **** YOU!!!!!!!!!

BEST HEADLINE EVER!!!!----

http://www.soccerbyives.net/soccer_by_ives/2009/06/confederations-cup-23-americans-advance-one-goes-home.html

"Confederations Cup: 23 Americans advance, one goes home"

When Sunday began it had been assumed that the 23 members of the U.S. national team would be the ones heading home from the Confederations Cup disappointed. After the United States rousing 3-0 win vs. Egypt, and Brazil's 3-0 win over Italy, the results meant that only one American player would be heading home to the United States.

That player is Giuseppe Rossi.

Ever since he left New Jersey a decade ago, Rossi has made it a tradition to return to the United States for part of his off-season vacation. That vacation will begin on Monday.

Okay, so perhaps gloating in Italy's failure may seem like a bit much, but considering the anguish Rossi's two goals against the United States put U.S. fans through, you can't really blame American fans for gloating a bit. So when they celebrate the fact that it was Rossi who was stripped on the play that led to Brazil's vital third goal, and revel in Italy's elimination, you can't really blame them, can you?

Different situation.

Jones was born on a US base in Germany, his dad was a soldier stationed there. So he was born on US soil. Just like Rossi. Both are Americans. I would, however, have no problem with him choosing to stay with Germany because he was ALSO a German citizen at birth.

Rossi was NOT an Italian citizen at birth.

Id also like to say a hearty **** YOU to the refs from all over the world that CONTINUE to screw the US. It happens too often to not be purposeful.

Luckily, we were good enough to overcome it yesterday. Eerily, 7 years ago to the DAY, the exact same thing happened, and the ref swallowed his whistle in that game as well. Germany 1- US 0.

i doubt that the getting screwed over by the refs is the main reason why US soccer isnt where we all want it to be...

every country feels like they are getting screwed by the refs... when it gets to international soccer, its just such a high stakes game that if you come out at the end as a loser.. everyone is trying to come up with an excuse...

anyways the US soccer was suppose to get to the next level when Donovan and Beasley hit the scene almost 7 years back... who are the next generations of US soccer players that we can cheers for?

I guess Freddy Adu should play for the Ghana team.

Might as well, Bob isnt playing him for the US.

sj, Ive now watched the US have balls batted away on the goal line by opponents hands TWICE in games that mattered internationally. In this same tournament, Brazil was given the call in the same situation, we were not.

Add to that the takedowns our players endure without calls and the ticky tack fouls we get carded for (again going back numerous international tournaments) and it's not hard to see what's happening.

Kilmer17

Also, Adu became a US citizen at 8. He then went through US schools and US Soccer funded camps, just like Rossi. Unlike Rossi, he didnt become Benadict Arnold. And unlike Rossi, his team is still playing today.

well i am not saying those were not bad officiating..

although I do not follow the club games much but I do watch as much of international games I can regardless of if the US or South Korea (nations I cheer for) plays in the match or not...

I can assure you there are ALOT of games where the refs botched the call or there were definitely a close call that could be argued changed the game. The bad calls happen to every country out there... its not really country specific...

lol i wiki'd him to see which parent was argentine and came across this funny quote

He also chooses not to sing Italy's national anthem (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_anthem) before their matches because he doesn't know the words, although he can be seen singing (at least a part of) the anthem during the World Cup celebrations in Circus Maximus (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Circus_Maximus) on 10 July 2006. Camoranesi was not the first Juventus player born in Argentina to play for Italy, Omar Sivori (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Omar_Sivori) before him did also.

Rossi would start every game for the US and be a difference maker.

So would Neven Subotic who chose Serbia.

People ask what it will take for the US to become a world soccer power? One of the fastest ways will be to keep good American players playing for America.
