I didn't see a thread for just the draft in general. Here's one!
With all the trades going down, I fully expect the Rockets to trade TMac at some point tonight to get a draft pick.

The Lakers just sold the 29th to the Knicks (for the respective fans of each team). They Lakers are simply trying to conserve ca$h in an effort to retain both Ariza and Odom.

Yeah the Rockets are trying to get up in the lottery and TMac is their best option to move up. I don't think any team in the lottery wants him though. Basically every team is looking to rebuild rather than taking on a washed up SG.

The more I look at that trade Orlando pulled today the more I wonder why they did it. Is Carter at his age, really making that team dramatically better? I mean, they already had plenty of scoring big men on that team. Anyone care to explain, I don't get it?

Mark it down - If Griffin isnt the rookie of the year, Curry will be.
Don Nelson is going to give him every opportunity to get 22-25 points and 8-10 assists a game. Nelson loves a scoring PG. Plus, teams will have to put their best backcourt defender on Monte Ellis, not Curry.
Of course, the Warriors backcourt won't be able to guard anyone, but when have they ever done that?

I grew up as a big Larry Bird fan. One of the all time greats.
But after the last few drafts he's been in charge of, I'm starting to wonder if he's another "Great basketball player but lousy judge of talent."
Of course in his defense though, it's hard to draft premier talent when you're stuck in the mediocre zone(13-21) year after year.

I'm still shocked that after picking Rubio you don't go ahead, and select Curry to go with him.

I agree with you on those points, but I actually think OKC might not be a bad fit for him. With Durant, Westbrook, and now Harden you have a lot of players that can make things happen with the ball. It should leave BJ with a lot of open dunks, which is about the only thing he did well at OSU.

That still sucks. Your not going to get a quality big man and their is no point in giving up a expiring as large as James in a measly deal when you can get something bigger at the trade deadline when expirings are it's maximum value.

The more I look at that trade Orlando pulled today the more I wonder why they did it. Is Carter at his age, really making that team dramatically better? I mean, they already had plenty of scoring big men on that team. Anyone care to explain, I don't get it?
As I stated in another thread, Carter is one of the more overrated players in the NBA. This is a terrible move. They are now a worse team for it.
wow, Harden??
Terrible pick. Guy is good. But he isn't worthy of going that high.
Nah I don't think so. Good move for the Pacers. Hansbrough will contribute solid minutes and be a really solid player. I don't think he'll be a superstar, but he should be very good off the bench.
Nope. He's not going to amount to much of anything at this level. Think Mark Madsen.
Ellington will be the best pro out of this year's Tarheel class
I doubt it. I still think Green will eventually be the best of that group. None will ever be that good of an NBA player though. That includes Lawson.
**As for my opinion of this draft. Terrence Williams is the best player in this draft. He will improve his shooting and turn out to be a stud in this league.

Where do I start ? Can you put aside your blatant homerism for just a moment? OK, so they're all homegrown talent, I get that you enjoy that because I do too but is this really that great of a trade? Vince is a (quickly fading) star and is essentially a complimentary player to Lewis. Sure, he has more 'to the basket' skills but you're losing Hedo so how exactly are you better? And Hedo plays defense. Carter plays even less than Lewis (if that's possible). This is just an 'stay even' trade for your team. It's the equivalent of the Shaq trade for the Cavs. I await your well tempered response.

What makes you think that Hedo is gone?
The Magic have one of the richest owners in the league. While the source of his wealth is a little questionable to some, he is absolutely loaded.
After losing Shaq....and having a worthless coach who let Ben Wallace go, he isn't about to let Hedo leave town.
The Magic have a brand new stadium, revenues won't be an issue. One year over the cap for a title? Devoss will do that.
Rafer was good last season, but a healthy Jameer is better.
Tony B wasn't anything....but he was due 6 mill next season.
And Courtney Lee is a good young player, but Vince averages more than twice as many points a game, and can create plays himself.
Read Vince's comments about the trade. I will link a few. His biggest is, "For the first time in my career, I am finally with a team that can win a title. That is a dream for NBA players."
What did they really lose? Rafer was gone regardless. So they traded Lee for Vince.
Edit: "Every player hopes for an opportunity like this, to just once compete for an NBA championship," Carter said. "This a dream come true for me. Now I have a chance to win a championship."

Hey man, hold on to your faith, I don't think they keep Hedo, if they do they will be stacked but it would be highly unusual for a player to not want to essentially double his salary (or come close to it which is what some teams can do at this point for him). Players have a short shelf life, most of them want the here and now no matter how great the city. Stranger things have happened.

McD is too big a homer to focus on reality. Carter has never cared much about giving his all on the defensive end. That won't change. And he's a streaky shooter. The Magic WILL lose Hedo. So basically they're choosing Vince over Hedo. Dumb move.
And while I know they had to get rid of Alston, I think it hurts as well. He got them to the playoffs. He was a main factor in them reaching the Finals, even. I know they have to keep Nelson over Alston. But I just think losing Alston, coupled with the Carter move, have made this team worse.

Carter carried his entire team yet again last season.
Next season, he won't have to carry a team. He won't have that pressure.
As far as defense goes, with the exception of having the best defensive player in the league, the Magic aren't exactly a defensive force.
Now, maybe teams can't win it all with that style. Maybe it is total stupidity. But they like to score points.
They already set the NBA all-time record for most 3s last season, and at least on paper, they have just added another 12 pts a game to their team.
Who exactly do you try and stop now? Dwight? Hedo? Rashard? Vince? or Jameer?
What a ***** to try and plan for that team.
It is also possible that the Magic fear losing Hedo.....and have signed Vince just in case. Time will tell.

Parker
Ginobli
Jefferson
Duncan
That is a pretty solid line-up right there.
I agree. And I could see the Spurs getting back in the mix next year. Especially if Phil retires and they don't bring Odom and/or Ariza back.
It was good to hear that Jack McClinton was drafted by the Spurs. I'm telling you, that guy is good. I remember watching him play in the ACC and he was amazing.
C'mon, he's not THAT good. If I recall, he seemed to be a tad inconsistent. And not very good on the defensive end. Not real surprised he didn't go higher.

You also have to add the Nuggets who added Ty Lawson last night and took the Lakers to more games then Orlando did. Actually the Spurs had a stellar draft last night and are already better then this past season w/the addition of Jefferson. The West is still far better then the East imho.

The more I look at that trade Orlando pulled today the more I wonder why they did it. Is Carter at his age, really making that team dramatically better? I mean, they already had plenty of scoring big men on that team. Anyone care to explain, I don't get it?
im a magic fan and i cant explain it. lee was a good defender and an ok scorer for being a rookie. he would only get better. and alston is going to be a backup in NJ, coulda just kept him as backup here and dumped anthony johnson.
i hate the whole 'win it now' mentality. we got to the finals with what we had already. then we trade away two components of it for a mid-30s SG just cuz he averages almost 25 a game?

I dunno I like the Magic trade. Maybe because I'm a big VC fan, but I think it'll work out. I think the Magic needed a scorer from the 2 position and Carter can provide that. He's been stuck on mediocore teams his whole career and now will have a chance to shine. If the Magic can somehow keep Turkoglu, can you imagine a lineup of Howard, Lewis, Turkoglu, Carter, and Nelson? That would be insane!

Dude, Lawson isn't gonna amount to much. And he likely won't see much playing time for a few years anyway. And the West isn't as good as the East now. Heck, it wasn't even better last year. And now the Cavs and Magic (remains to be seen) just got better? I don't see the logic there.

As least one Magic fan gets it. I thought it was dumb, too.

Again, Carter is overrated. Take off the blinders, dude. You just like him because he's a former Tar Heel. He won't help this team much. And they certainly aren't better because of this move. You'll see. And no way does Turkoglu stay now. That should have been obvious the moment that trade was made.

Huh?
Let's see, the Suns who didn't qualify for the paloffs in the West, would have been the # 5 seed had they been in the East this past year. Look at the ascendant teams in the West: Nuggets, Jazz and Trailblazers. The Spurs and Lakers also make the West better, right now, than the East. The Spurs just got noticeably better w/Jefferson. The recent trades may be tipping the scales back but I don't see the East as better or even equal at the moment. Going purely off records your assertion is shot down.

I still think the West is going to be tough. The East is just top heavy with Orlando, Boston, and Cleveland. The Suns didn't make the playoffs last year in the West and would've been a 5 or 6 seed in the East.
I think Lawson will see a good amount of minutes next season. The Nuggets like to get up and down the court and Lawson has plenty of experience in that kind of offense. Plus he won't be rushed into playing because he can learn from Billups.
I don't think Carter is overrated. He's never been on a great team and has always had the pressure of carrying the team. Now he won't have to bare that burrden because it will be more on Howard than Carter. Carter can easily average around 20 a game. Its good insurance for the Magic if they can't keep Hedo.

overall a ho-hum draft. The trades are in my opinion much bigger.
On the topic of Rubio. His agent made it clear that he didn't want his client in Washington. With an option of staying in Europe. Washington could have taken him, and gotten nothing. Still be stuck with those contracts, and people would have blasted that.

Anthony Johnson, JJ Reddick, Mikael Pietrus.
Enjoy your bench and good luck getting any more quality players with the little money you have left.

I hope we can find some more big men. It doesn't feel right with the lack of a presence there.
