Nor much liked CNN's sunday morning news offerings.
I must say however, as a news junkie. Fareed Zakaria's program "Global Public Square" the last two weeks have been the best news show on Sunday Morning.
His show has skyrocketed to the top of my list of Sunday morning news shows. If you happen to catch it, and your a fan of the genre, He's really captured lightning in a bottle with his coverage of Iran. He's done it largely without the typical genre of the oposing talking heads. He often has only one guest on explaining what's going on, or he has several people, who mostly agree. Their positions are fresh, thoughtful, don't reflect the thinking of either party.

Why didn't you like Zakaria? Always thought he was an excellent commentator, with an interesting perspective as a naturalized citizen.

I agree. I was never a huge fan of his until I started watching GPS a few months ago. It is a very interesting and well presented show.

His book about the "Post American Era", I thought was rather insulting and rather premature....
OK, I never read the book- was only familiar with his commentary on This Week and The Daily Show.

I never really thought he added that much to any conversation he was in. His perspective was from a middle easterner and frankly I was distrustful of him. His book about the "Post American Era", I thought was rather insulting and rather premature....
Anyway, I do like his show on CNN. Great on Iran. Great on Economics.. just very interesting and Fareed has turned over a new leaf in my book. I like the guy. He's doing a good job on Global Public Square.

I've always found Zakaria to be a fair voice of a culture that most of us in America truly do not understand. I've always appreciated his insight.

His book about the "Post American Era", I thought was rather insulting and rather premature....I thought "The Post-American World" was a very interesting perspective of what the world will be like in 50 years when the United States isn't the sole global economic super-power anymore. His point is that other countries will be on par with the United States economically and I don't think he is off-base with that assumption. You only have to look at the economic strides that China is making to see that. I do disagree with his assumptions about Russia (in terms of economic power) though.
Now militarily, I don't see anyone challenging the United States in that arena. Of the countries Zakaria talks about the only one that has the desire to be a military global superpower is Russia and I don't believe they will have the economic base needed to do it.
And of course the book is "premature" because we don't know exactly what the future holds, his book was written with the assumption that the world will "hold steady" and that no cataclysmic events such as WW III or some massive natural disaster occur in one of the countries he writes about.
Overall I think his book as an extremely interesting perspective on what the world will be like in the next century.

Interesting. I've pretty much liked him all along as a commentator/reporter and think his show is generally superior for the genre. I appreciate how he approaches things with a fair degree of even-handedness and informed perspective, and attempts to provide a decently wide base of interesting guests and views. He isn't just another "me too" voice.

ehh that's sort of my opinion on him, he is vanilla enough, and generally smart enough to be an acceptable voice of mainstream Arab Middle Eastern perspective, but his analysis from his Newsweek articles anyway, weren't all that interesting. I prefer Reza Aslan as my token Middle Eastern scholar.
