If you like birdwatching (I mean really like it), the iBird Pro is just unbelievably cool. Its the main reason I got the iPhone and hasn't disappointed. I used to take 2-3 large guidebooks and a small recorder into the field, and now the iPhone is all that and more...

OK, did I just reveal that I'm a total nerd? Guilty as charged.

I saw that app. It's expensive but it does look cool.

Less than the new Peterson guide or the Sibley guide (books). Much less than the CD collections that have recordings of all the songs (the recordings on iBird are great). And much more portable than those.

There are cheaper (regional, less complete) versions, too.

iPedo - There's an App for that (http://www.godbitesman.com/home/2009/7/28/ipedo-theres-an-app-for-that-new-iphone-application-locates.html)

Offender Locator alerts iPod touch and iPhone owners in the United States to nearby sex offenders.

All 50 states in the US require those convicted of sexual offences to sign a register so that their whereabouts can be tracked and monitored. The information is also freely available online. ThinAir Wireless, the developer of the Offender Locator application, has used this database to build the tool.

Offender Locator uses the iPhone's built-in GPS to pinpoint the user's location, and then provide a map listing sex offenders in the local area. Tapping on one of the 'pins' dropped on to the map brings up a photograph of the offender, as well as their address, date of birth and list of convictions.
