WINTER PARK, Fla. – A Florida dentist is being sued for allegedly dropping tools down the throat of an elderly patient — twice.
Relatives of 90-year-old Charles Gaal Jr. recently filed the suit in circuit court accusing Dr. Wesley Meyers of negligence. An answering message at Meyers' office in Winter Park said Saturday that he was on vacation. He did not reply to a message from The Associated Press seeking comment.
The lawsuit says the doctor dropped an "implant screwdriver tool" in 2006 and a "mini-wrench" in 2007.
The suit also says Gaal underwent several medical procedures to remove the tools but never fully recovered. He died in 2007.
Meyers was fined $17,000 by the state a year later. The dentist was found negligent in a settlement

I had a dentist knock one of my caps off and it almost went down my throat.
The assistant's brother had swallowed a cap and had to do the same as "Marley and Me" with the gold chain. I don't care how many times it was sterilized, there's no way I could put that back in my mouth.

That dentist was clearly being negligent if this happened multiple times with the same patient. I usually roll my eyes at lawsuits, but this one seems pretty legit.

a small part of me was hoping the dentist was suing to get his tools back.

My father had his jawline completely eroded away because the dentist left a tool that broke off in his tooth. The dentist knew what happened but didnt say anything...he even had it in his notes. He told my dad to get a waterpik and to 'floss better'

So, slowly but surely, it eventually just eroded away the bone. My dad had to go to another dentist for something (stemming from the previous dentist's work), the dentist found the piece of tool in my dad's jaw. He contacted a lawyer, but the dentist had retired by then, and the statue of limitations had passed....so my dad was screwed with paying for tons of expensive surgeries to repair his jaw.
