The O's have been discussing this with the Marlins. Im not sure cause i really like Conine but a lot of people say Lee can hit 35+ HR's if he's playing in Candem Yards.
Any Opinions

Derrick Lee is 10 years younger than Conine, and is just about as good...I say go for it.
I'm hoping that the O's trade away all the old guys, David Segui, Bj Surhoff, and MArty Cordova during the stretch run. And if they can get a lot for Mora than have them do that but only then. I'm hoping they can trade these guys away for prospects and such, because our farm system sux, because Angelos is a horrible owner...worst than Abe Pollin.

Agreed, I would do this in a heartbeat even though I think Conine is one of the few pieces of the O's that has been respectable over the past 2 or 3 years.
If the O's can trade off some oldies for young guys, they would have a decent foundation and just need a couple of more pieces to be pretty good.
1B: Derek Lee
2B: Brian Roberts/Jerry Hairston
3B: ?? (I think they will trade Batista)
SS: Deivi Cruz/Melvin Mora
LF: Jack Cust?
CF: Luis Matos
RF: Jay Gibbons
C: ?? (Gil is not the answer offensively)
If they could acquire a good 3B and C, they would be a pretty decent club. I think all the young pitching will eventually be OK.

Imagine if they could trad ponson to the reds for Dunn......now dunn has power but isn't hitting well...our hitting instructor currently is amazing and has done wonders for all. I'd do that in a heart beat...while Ponson is good....I still don't have much faith in him....he get over weight real easily and isn't too consistent.

I think that the Conine for Lee trade is a good one for the O's in the long run. I really like Conine but the O's have to decide once and for all if they're going to stick with this youth movement that they've been trying to sell us all on. The thing that worries me is that Conine is one of main clubhouse leaders, and who would step into that spot to bring these yungin's along.
Their bats have been a pleasant surprise this season, and if they could trade, or pick up via FA, a legit #1 to stick in the rotation along with Lopez & Ponson, (P. Gammons said that the O's are not really looking to trade Ponson and are currently trying to sign him to a long term contract so he doesn't leave after this season), then they might have the ability to do something special next year or at least stay above the .500 mark for over a week. They also need some major bullpen help, but they might be able to work something out there in the off season.

I would like the Lee/Conine deal. I wouldnt trade Melvin Mora thats dumb. He's a very valuable guy. Tony Batista needs to go badly. I cant stand that guy right now. He is such a poor hitter/fielder. He does lead the team in HR's but they always seem to come when we are down by 8 in the 9th inning or something. When we need him he strikes out. Our pitching is actually getting real good. Lopez is back, Johnson is doing very well. Ponson of course. Helling actually has had a couple good outings. Hentgen/Daal isnt good but we have some guys in the minors that could possible come up like Stephens. Cordova doesnt do anything.
But i wouldnt trade Surhoff he is a good vet to have that can hit when asked, play a few positions very well, etc....
I think anything we'd get for Surhoff wouldnt be as important as he is to the club.
Roberts could move to SS when Hairston comes back. Keep Mora in LF, Matos in CF, Gibby in RF. If we could get more help offensively from SS, 3B, and C then we'd be good. SS can be fixed like i said with Roberts. In the minors we also have Cust.
From what ive seen these young guys we have, Roberts/Hairston/Gibbons/Johnson have gotten a lot better each year and are still young. They are really getting to a point where they can be a winning team now i think.

I like the Lee for Conine deal. Jeff is 10 yrs older and Lee is an amazing talent. Not only can the guy hit HR's but he can steal bases for you.
Ponson is a free agent. If we could get Dunn in exchange for him, the Orioles may become an exciting team to watch with a good mix of young talent.
Matos is coming of age, and Mora is having an outstanding season as we all know. Throw in Dunn and Lee, I could see that being a huge acquisition for them.
