View Full Version : Yahoo Mock Drafts

For those who don't know, you can participate in Yahoo mock drafts, have the results e-mailed to you, etc. Figured I'd create a thread for all of them, so they can be rated by others, and we don't clog up the forum.
Here's the first one I did, 10 team mock, I had spot #4.
QB: Carson Palmer, Chad Pennington
RB: LaDainian Tomlinson, Clinton Portis, Brandon Jacobs, Knowshon Moreno, Chris "Beanie" Wells
WR: Brandon Marshall, Chad Ochocinco, Michael Crabtree, Lee Evans, Domenick Hixon
TE: Chris Cooley
K: Mason Crosby
DEF: Redskins
For those who care about draft order, it went like this:
Tomlinson
Portis
Jacobs
Marshall
Ochocinco
Palmer
Cooley
Moreno
Crabtree
Evans
Wells
Hixon
Pennington
Washington
Crosby
Honestly, probably too rookie and Redskins heavy, but mocking is fun to get ready for real drafts.

That's not a bad team at all. How did you manage did get those 3 RBs and still have decent WRs?

Well, the easy answer is that it's Yahoo, and people are idiots on there. Still, in my opinion, it's the best Fantasy Football site in terms of ease of use, graphics, stat-tracking, etc.

I agree. Yahoo is the easiest to use by far. The only thing I don't like is having to pay for stat tracker when ESPN, CBS, and a few others have it for free. But if Yahoo had free stat tracker it wouldn't even be close.

It is free this year, they announced it on the main page of Fantasysports.

I did 2 mocks on Yahoo so far. Both were done from the 10 spot since thats where I'm drafting in my 10 team PLUS league. Of course it's tough getting a good read from these mocks because my league awards points for completions and receptions so my drafting strategy won't be the same for someone drafting in a standard league. But never the less, here are the results of my mocks:
MOCK #1 (RB-WR at the turn)
QB1 Matt Schaub
QB2 Kyle Orton
RB1 Chris Johnson
RB2 Pierre Thomas
RB3 LenDale White
RB4 Felix Jones
RB5 Fred Jackson
WR1 Andre Johnson
WR2 Marques Colston
WR3 Kevin Walter
WR4 Michael Crabtree
WR5 Percy Harvin
TE Kellen Winslow Jr.
K John Kasay
DEF Miami
MOCK #2 (RB-RB at the turn)
QB1 Aaron Rodgers
QB2 Kyle Orton
RB1 Chris Johnson
RB2 Steve Slaton
RB3 Knowshon Moreno
RB4 Fred Jackson
WR1 Terrell Owens
WR2 Chad Ochocinco
WR3 Donald Driver
WR4 Percy Harvin
WR5 Nate Washington
TE1 Dallas Clark
TE2 Vernon Davis
K Mason Crosby
DEF Baltimore

Did my 3rd mock over lunch. This one I went with a WR-WR strategy at the turn (10)which is probably a make or break strategy for my league since we award 1 point per reception. I am the most hesitant to use this strategy come real draft time but I don't think this team turned out that bad:
QB1 - Kurt Warner
QB2 - Jake Delhomme
RB1 - Ronnie Brown
RB2 - Jonathan Stewart
RB3 - Darren McFadden
RB4 - Knowshon Moreno
WR1 - Andre Johnson
WR2 - Randy Moss
WR3 - DeSean Jackson
WR4 - Steve Breaston
WR5 - Mushin Muhammad
TE1 - John Carlson
TE2 - Dustin Keller
K - Rob Bironas
DEF - Dallas
Note- Fitzgerald was taken 7th overall otherwise he would have been one of my WR taken at either 10 or 11.

I did a 10 teamer last night where I screwed around and took all Redskins. I was able to get away with Portis in the 1st, but when I took Santana Moss in the 2nd, they asked me if I was on crack. Cooley in the 3rd didn't get any attention, but Campbell in the 4th sure did. Around round 8, they finally figured out what was going on, but by then it was too late to stop me. I got every Skin I possibly could, 3 QB's, 4 RB's, 4 WR's, 2 TE's, 1 K, 1 DEF.
They were pissed by the end, said I was screwing up the mock drafting...and they didn't appreciate it when I helpfully advised them to "Brush their teeth with my love"

Thats my strategy this season. The elite WR core is pretty thin. If i can get the 10th or 11th pick (if i get a top 5 pick i may and try to swap drafts with someone at 10 or 11) and leave the first two rounds with Fitz & Calvin or Johnson & Johnson the championship is mine. Handful of good RB's to choose from in rounds 3-7. I believe it's the way to go and I'm not in a ppr league.

lmao @ this. I go away and a week later I'm dead to you. Retard drafts at Yahoo are a much better indicator than at FFC.
now that I mention it, FFC sucks. don't go there. Nut's just babbling again. Move on, nothing to see here.

I always love having a QB-WR combo. Not a bad team, you do have some depth a RB so its not terrible.

Just had my first draft of the season that actually counts. I was using a combination of sheets from WalterFootball as well as my own personal rankings. The result is that I'm running back heavy, a little thin at wideout, but this is a team that could win me the league.
QB: Philip Rivers, Jason Campbell
RB: Maurice Jones-Drew, Steve Slaton, Knowshon Moreno, Kevin Smith, Jonathan Stewart, Donald Brown
WR: Anthony Gonzalez, Bernard Berrian, Kevin Walter, Michael Crabtree
TE: Zach Miller
K: Jason Elam
DEF: Washington Redskins
Basically, I'm hoping Moreno behaves like most Denver running backs, and that Joseph Addai gets hurt so I can leverage his owner for another wideout. If Crabtree signs and has a good rookie year, so much the better.

As long as its not a PPR league, you should be a contender. That is one of the most impressive (at least on paper) RB stables I've seen in a real draft.

It's not PPR, I definitly would have drafted a little different had it been. As it was, I took RB's in 5 of the first 6 rounds, just happened to be who was available. Then I started trying to put together a WR group.

Results from my first real draft. Standard non-PPR league.
QB- Aaron Rodgers, Trent Edwards
RB- Matt Forte, Kevin Smith, Jonathan Stewart, Knowshon Moreno
WR- Andre Johnson, Derrick Mason, Hines Ward, Laveranues Coles, Percy Harvin
TE- Jason Witten, Dustin Keller
K- Josh Brown
DEF- Chicago
EDIT: Pho, I just realized we ended up with 3 of the same RB's lol.

I absolutely loved this draft.. one of my favorites I've done so far.. RB is pretty deep this year, so I went for WRs early, and got a solid 3 that will play every week along with a 4th who could break out with Cutler and be a spot starter.. I then loaded up on RBs and i think Slaton is a steal mid-2nd round and drafted a few guys with a ton of upside, especially mcfadden IMO.. i really think Lynch is a guy who will prove much better worth than the 7th or 8th round i drafted him in after being a shoe-in first rounder last year, so what you have to keep him on the bench 3 weeks.. its a long season.. i went with your boy cooley (who was actually the 6th TE off the board - figured I would let you know, so you wouldnt take him too early in drafts) and finished up with a talented defense with one of the greatest defensive minds in the game as a head coach, and a solid kicker who can knock down 50-55 yarders on an offense that should score a ton of points..
what do you guys think?

Do that give you nice anylisis? And do they have quick/accurate live scoring?
We were considering using Yahoo to host our league this year considering it's free and you can customize the rules, but I haven't used it since 2001 and it was aweful back then. I like NFL.com the best. They have the best updates/analysis and website layout. You can even customize your team page and ad your own custom stories (which are always for a hilariously good time in our league) complete with pics to the league page.
How does Yahoo.com stack up to NFL.com?

I don't know, I've only used Yahoo and Fleaflicker. Yahoo had improved by leaps in the past eight years, the interface is smooth and the scoring is not free, and updates in real time for the most part. I don't know about room to post stories and pictures and other stuff like that, I've certainly never seen it, unless you just want to post a long message.

the scoring is free this year. Yahoo's live scoring is called the StatTracker, and it's usually $10 for the whole season. However, i don't know if it's permanent, but the StatTracker is free this year.
If there's anytime to use Yahoo, it's now. They're really do have the best overall setup imo.
