I'm going with Ricky Williams... Rb's are so important and with Priest Holmes ailing.. Ricky seems to be the safest bet.

So you all know, i'm talking Fantasy Football.

I tend to go for the RBs that catch a lot of passes aswell as being featured runners. If Holmes is completely healthy he has to be one of the top picks simply because of how much the Chiefs use him.

Others I would consider top choices: Deuce McAlister, Ricky Williams, Marshall Faulk, L. Tomlinson.

Last year I felt I needed a good QB as a #1 since the year before all I had was trouble at that posistion. I felt Jeff Garcia was #1 and I was able to nab him with the second pick. He was solid last year but not great. This year, I have no idea who I think should be #1. Holmes might be a good bet and if Faulk gets back to form I think he deserves a lot of consideration.

I think its a toss up between Clinton Portis and LaDainian Tomlinson. You also have to think about Mike Vick. In my league top QB's are quite valuable due to our scoring. With Vick your drafting a QB who is going to put major running numbers along with along with solid passing numbers as well.

Personally I would probably take Clinton Portis, this guy has another gear once he gets in the open field. Just look at the stats towards the end of the last season.

LT. No doubt about it. Between rushing yds and tds & receiving yards and tds, hes the one, unless Holmes is healthy, in which case, you have to go with him. Chances are most people won't get the 1st overall though, so it's safer to look at mid to late 1st rounders carefully, and hope that you get good draft position, so that you can just take the best player available. Vick is my pick unless LT, Ricky or Portis is available. He's the best bet to put up good numbers in passing and rushing (obviously).

I agree with DSF, Ricky is the safest bet.

i am leaning towards LT... but my darkhorse is Portis... I drafted him in the final round last year and held on to him!! BOO YA! RWilliams is the safest pick, but i still don't see their passing game having shown enough improvement to say he will put up numbers like last year... Defenses will stack the line.

I wouldn't put all of money on Ricky Williams. He has been prone to injury in the past. The Dolphins schedule is appealing though.

Also remeber that usally about 60% of the prior years top players do not repeat the their high statistics.

depends on what your league scores points on, i know in our leage the man will be vick, 200 yards passing 80 rushing and say 2 to 3 tds that is a good 30+ :)

I would like to go with Ricky Williams, but I am worried about injuries. I am going with Tomlinson because of the Marty Ball factor.

Ricky Williams - especially condsidering all of Wannstadt's talk of making sure Ricky gets the ball on third downs, out of the backfield etc. Ricky will get 300 - 400 touches this year - and I believe a significant increase in catches.

Second - LaDainian - will see lots of touches, but Charges have more weapons than Dolphins, Third Portis.

If Priest was healthy, you have to take him # 1. But hip surgery is no joke.

IMO, you can't take a QB as a top pick b/c you can get quality, starting QB's in the 5th/6th/7th rounds. Stud RB's will be gone by round 2.

2 of the best RB's weren't pick till past the 5th round last year,

Henry and Portis :)

Maybe in your league Jbooma - but Portis went in the second and T. Hen in the 4th in mine...

This year's later round RB's? Adrian Peterson? Lamont Jordan?

You also have to take into consideration that if you have the number one pick, you don't pick again until the end of the second round.

One of the leagues I am in with people from this board has 20 teams. So, if you have number 1, You don't pick again until number 41. That is crazy!! And you have to strategize accordingly.

Yeah- I think the main thing this year is it's better to be in the #3-#6 slot as there are a lot of RBs that are about equally appealing. I think LT is the safest pick because he gets the ball so much both running and receiving, and the SD offense should be better this year around him (o-line, and Boston, and another year for Brees). But I really haven't seen him play much, so somehow he doens't seem as exciting a pick as Portis or Williams. Ricky really improved around the middle of last year, where Norv and others said he suddenly gained an elusiveness that he didn't have before. So he has potential to be even better overall this year than last. And of course projecting Portis' numbers over a full year starting is scary, and TD said he thought Portis could break all his Broncos' running records- so he is very tempting as well. Throwing a healthy Holmes and Faulk into the mix and there's 5 guys who I'd love to have any 1 of. Others have McAllister and/or Alexander right up there too, so #6 or #7 wouldn't be a bad spot to be in either.

Unless your league has abnormal rules, I'd stay away from all QBs that early. RBs are just too important in fantasy football. Worst case scenario for QB- you can have 3 decent ones and just play the matchups, while at RB you can never do that.
