Don't start with that crap. So yeah, that even further proves the point. They are in a mediocre division and yet are still what 32 games under .500%. That's how bad the Nationals are. No excuse if the Orioles finish behind them even if the AL East is insanely good.

This reminded me of a funny story from this weekend. I went to the carnival with my mom and my sister and they had this game where you throw darts at the posters and get whichever one you hit. I was looking for some Redskins posters for my basement but there were none. I asked the girl how they could not have any Redskins posters being in Southern Maryland. She said its because they have not won a superbowl lately. I looked at the two teams they actually had posters for, The Steelers (which is understandable) and the FREAKING EAGLES!!! I asked her point blank if she was retarded when it comes to football since the Eagles have NEVER won a superbowl. Her response was that someone else that runs the thing said that was the reason. How ridiculous!

So if the Red Sox, Yankees, and Rays (who wasn't very good for a long time until last season) all got swallowed up by the Earth... only then would the O's have a shot at .500?
A team worth anything will find a way to win. Being in a tough division is no excuse. None whatsoever. Whining about how tough the other guys are is pretty lame, and has been for years now.
The Skins are in probably the toughest division in the NFL, and they only get 16 games to prove how good they are. When they don't make it to the playoffs I don't make excuses about our division, the their own damn fault for not making it.

Thats not what im saying at all. Im simply saying that the AL East is much harder to win in than the NL East. Thats a fact.
If the Nationals played in the ALE, they would probably be even worse. hey were 7-11 in interleague ply against the league. Compare that to Baltimore's 11-7 record against the NLE, including a sweep against the Phillies.

I don't see how you think they need hitting. They have Morgan who has been a beast at lead off, Guzman, Zimmerman who has hit over 24 homers this year, Dunn who is a beast and then Willingham who has been amazing the last few weeks (two grand slams against Houston in one game). The top five have been impressive over the last month or so. I think you need to refocus on pitching..

Regardless of who plays in what division, surely you see the irony of O's fans comparing the Nats to the '62 Mets for much of this season, and then the O's suddenly having to watch their backs as the Nats inch closer and closer to them.
By the way, before you get too confident that the O's would do so much better in the NL East and the Nats would do so much worse in the AL East...consider that the O's all-time record vs. the NL in interleague play (1997-2009) is 101-128 (.441). The Nats/Expos all-time record vs. the AL in interleague play is 112-117 (.485).
It always cracks me up when O's fans lament playing in the AL East, when they have the worst all-time interleague record in the entire American League. Yeah, like the O's would do so much better in the NL.

Talk about a small sample size for an argument. Reminds me of the movie Mr. Baseball. "You can't trade me! I led this team in 9th inning doubles in the month of August!"
Nats are playing some ball though. They'd have a ton more wins if their bullpen could've held some games together early in the season. I mean, how many games did Mock, Hanrahan, Tavarez, and Rivera blow? 15? How many times did a 1-3 run deficit turn into a blowout, putting a winnable game out of reach? Another 15?
Not that they'd have 30 more wins with a good pen, but good teams hang around a win a bunch of games that bad teams give away.

Guess what? The Nats suck. Shocker. But guess what else? You suck too. The O's have been the worst franchise in baseball other than the Pirates the last 13 years or so. Im not smug in the least. Its like Nats fans want to hate us. Its the complete opposite of the Ravens/Redskins relationship, where Ravens fans hate the Skins but we could care less. When you think about it, thats exactly how this relationship is.

Depends on who fully meets their ceiling and what you value more in an offensive player.
Kakes has been the better player in 3 of 4 years. Zimmerman will prob have the better numbers this year, but I'll take Markakis in the long run. Kakes has better plate discipline and pitch selection overall.
Zimmerman is starting to really show that 30+ power potential and can really pick it at 3b, which is a premium possition. (He gets sloppy on throws, though)
I also think Zimmerman has that "it" factor. It's a tough call that really got tougher thru this season.

The Marlins just swept the Phillies. The Marlins are just 3.5 out in the East. And right there in the wildcard hunt. Likewise, the Braves are in the hunt for both. The Braves also just went out to LA and took 3 of 4 from the Dodgers, who have the best record (by far) in the NL.
There would be 4 good teams in that division, if not for the massive injuries the Mets have suffered.
Again, the Phillies are the defending champs. And are in the same division that you are making fun of. That's pretty silly. And the Phillies were playing really good baseball, up until recently. True, but at least Nats fans are realistic. We know we're bad. We just want O's fans to acknowledge that they're no better than we are, but they are incapable of accepting this fact. :) They lean on the notion that they're good just because they play in a tough division...when in reality they are nothing more than Vanderbilt playing in the SEC.

Both teams suck and everyone knows that. As an O's fan, I will say that the O's finally have a direction after 12 years and game plan of building around young talented pitchers to get better. The O's also have an awesome young outfield by all accounts as well as big potential behind the plate. We won't know if it works, but at least they have a plan. I'm not knocking the Nats, but do they have a plan and if so, what is it?
I hope both teams get good but as far as the argument as to which team is better, the O's won the season series 4-2.

Of course they have a plan...why do you think they call Stan Kasten "Stan the Plan?" His plan is to recreate what he created in Atlanta in the early 90s, with young pitching and young talent that develops together, and when the talent matures, sprinkle in a free agent or two to put the team over the top.
It's too early to tell if it will work in DC, but clearly Kasten was hired with the intention of modeling the franchise after the successful franchise he built in Atlanta.

Both teams need a lot of work before they compete. The O's farm system was embarassing for a long time. It seems like that has changed and we are seeing a lot of young players come up this year. It should result in a poor record the rest of the way as the young players adjust. Hopefully in a year or 2 the young pitchers and outfielders can carry the O's. It won't be long before they have to replace 3 of the 4 spots in the infield. They have a lot of pitching talent in the system but are weak in bats.
The Nats have a couple young guys that have come up in the rotation. Zimmermann going down hurts them big time. They need to sign Strasberg to be the ace for years to come.
Both teams have been killed by being run poorly in the past. Baseball is probably the hardest sport to fix a poorly run franchise. We will see if the strategy changes will make both teams competitive. While I don't really follow the Nats, it will be nice to see 2 good baseball teams in this area.

This is why MLB (and for that matter the NFL) needs a rookie salary slotting system that is similar the NBA. Strasberg would already be signed and pitching as would all the other draft picks. This is really important for teams like the Nats and O's cause they can't afford to be wrong like the yankees, sox and Mets can.

It is annoying. The worst part is watching guys fall due to money or signability. The O's benefited by getting Wieters because of it, but it is stupid that higher rated talent falls out of the 1st and sometimes pretty far due to the set up of the draft.

Never said it was. Just thought it was silly to make fun of a division where the defending champs play.

I see no reason to hate the Nats. I live in a suburb of DC. They play a few miles away. Why should I show any type of resentment towards them, if the Orioles aren't playing them?
I hate their league though, stupid backwards NL with dumb pitchers hitting around the Mendoza line. If the Nats were AL I'd pay more attention but I have much disdain towards the NL and their outdated play.

I used to feel that way. I was strictly an American League guy until the Nats came to town. Since the Nats got here I watch the NL all the time, and it has grown on me to the point where I much prefer the NL game.
The later innings of NL games are so much more interesting than the AL, because there's just a lot more strategy involved with pinch-hitting, double-switches, use of all your bench players, etc. It's like incorporating the strategy of football games into baseball. Now that I'm used to watching the NL, I find AL games incredibly boring.

Nasty would be correct. Now 7-2 with a 3.05 ERA. Braves rotation is just sick.
Btw, Omar Infante (.344 average) just came back tonite. He's been on DL for awhile. And Tim Hudson is expected back soon. That's almost like making a trade. Braves will definitely be in the wildcard hunt, right down to the wire. And winning the East isn't out of the question, either.
BIG series this weekend in Atlanta with the Phils. Go Braves!

I'd have liked to see it last longer, though. Dallass is the only team in all of sports I hate more than the Braves.

That's odd. I rarely come across anyone that has that much hatred for the Braves. I take it your either A) a Mets fan OR B) were envious of the 14 straight division titles and WS title.

Or he could just dislike how arrogant some of their fans seem...

I really thought Lannan would extend the streak with the way he's pitching.
Anyone see the fight in Boston? Youkillis charged the mound and Porcello threw him to the ground and landed on him. Not exactly Ventura Vs. Ryan, but pretty good.

For a while there the Braves were referring to themselves as "America's Team." Not sure if they still do that, but man, that annoyed the crap out of me. Also, the tomahawk chop and chant is very annoying. And their fans are truly pathetic. 14 straight division titles, and they don't even sell out their home playoff games.

This is what I can't stand the most. So damn annoying. My sole reason for disliking FSU and the braves.

Not that many teams have won a title since '95. There are probably about 20 other teams out there that would loved to have "only" won it once. No offense, but you sound like a hater.

The Braves got that moniker during the days they played on TBS. All their games used to be televised nationally. The Braves, themselves, never referred to their team as America's Team.
And they almost never do the chant. That usually only comes out during the playoffs.
And the playoff thing is a dumb argument. Atlanta is very much a city of transplants. They also had made the playoffs 14 years in a row. Needless to say, the novelty had worn off. Their fans had grown so accustomed to going every year. Furthermore, you make it sound like no one was going to the playoff games. They were still getting 45,000 to 48,000 (around 50,000 capacity)

When I used to listen to North Carolina radio from Greenville, NC they would often advertise the Braves as America's Team..."Listen to America's Team on Pirate Radio 1260"
Didn't mind it though

I vividly recall the Braves promos/commercials on TBS where the voice-over pitch man would announce the upcoming Braves game and say, "The Braves....AMERICA's TEAM!!" I used to see those commericals all the time and it drove me nuts.
And they almost never do the chant. That usually only comes out during the playoffs. I don't care if they only do it once a year. I hate it and it's stupid. And I did hear the chant a time or two during the series that just ended against the Nats. It wasn't a loud one, but enough people were doing it to annoy the crap out of me.

I'm guessing you're not a Braves fan. I am, and I loved the chant when a close and meaningful game was on the line. Haven't seen much of those recently.
Regardless, the whole point of it is to rally the home team and annoy the visiting team and fans, and it seems to be effective.

It's not intimidating, just cheesy, lame and annoying.
