I know that it's a little early and I did a search and nothing came up for a thread topic on District 9. We will just keep this thread running until then.

The hype is on for this movie as it looks like this is the last action/ or suspense with a little dramatization to it for a while. I hope that it is worth seeing and either comparable or more enjoyable that Independence Day.

The only thing that bothers me are the aliens that look like mutated grasshoppers in District 9 ?!

You are full of questions, aren't you :silly:

This is one of a few movies coming up that I want to see. It'll probably be the first I see though because nobody wants to see the others

Well, it has great potential. Independence Day was made by Will Smith as was I am Legend so we'll see.

I'll take the District 9 aliens. I'm betting their impressive tech isn't defeated by a mac laptop.

Best aliens are those from the movie "Alien" BTW. Those things will always be creepy as hell and they have acid for blood. Can you imagine how dangerous that is? You get a papercut and suddenly your keyboard has a hole in it.

I noticed that this morning as well. All of the reviews are saying that District 9 is spectacular!! I'm really excited to see the flick this weekend.

The District 9 alien from the trailer is creepy as hell. The missile-catching thing is pretty cool too.

I thought Signs was pretty good as far as entertainment, it's just that absolutely nothing in the movie made any sense.

Based on what I've read from people who have seen the pre-screening this is the must see movie of the summer and that may be an understatement.

I can't wait to see the reception it gets on Friday morning when its fully released.

besides for the HUGE plot loophole, what didnt make sense? it really wasnt that story intensive.

Independence Day wins hands down. District 9 was absolutely attrocious.

Independence Day was a traditional cardboard cutout B movie plus state of the art visual effects. With just a nudge, it could have been cool in an Airplane/Naked Gun kind of way, but it just missed spoof status and settled for hokey and corny.

District 9 will appeal to a different audience.

So yeah, anyone looking for Independence Day should save their money.

District 9 was by far a better movie than Independence Day.

The aliens are very different looking, too. With ID4, you knew what they were going to look like. Typical hollywood alien creation.

Not in D-9.

Saw D9 yesterday and thought it was an exceptional movie. Really well done. I loved the proto documentary style they chose. Independence day is totally a different experience. ID is a ride and a fun pop corn movie. D9 is a pretty serious allegory.

Tqo completely different movies but Independence Day, until Titanic, was the highest grossing movie ever, beating out Jurassic Park so it did what it was supposed to do and that's be a huge summer blockbuster.

You know what is sad Burgold, the documentary probe of the movie was actually a good idea but the execution was terrible. Perhaps it was because we walked out in such a hurry (20 mins.) and did not give the movie a chance to get better... what really through us off was how the aliens inhabited human triats and how if they were a supposed dangerous species, why were they treated like humans ie interrogations.

See, I immediately understood it as an allegory to Apartheid and concentration camps meaning these aliens were unfairly ascribed evil traits that had little basis in reality. It was a movie that examined prejudice from a harsh angle. From that perspective, it worked very well for me. So much about what people say about groups they dislike is bs. It's just a way for the haters to rationalize and stomach what they are doing.
