View Full Version : Who should I keep?

I'm in a keeper league, where we keep 4 players each year. This year I will be keeping Travis Henry, Donald Driver, and Charlie Garner. For my 4th keeper, I have to choose between Tommy Maddox, Jimmy Smith, and the Eagles Defense. Who do you think I should keep?
Without getting bogged down in how my league is scored, basically a great defensive game will be equal to a great QB or WR game.

Eagles defense is tempting... but I'd have to go with Tommy Maddox. He's got at least 2 more years in Steele town.. and with Burress and Ward - and I believe they upgraded their TE position as well - you have to think Pittsburgh will be putting some points up on the board through the air.
Meanwhile, the Eagles defense should decline a little. And next year.. they're going to lose more talent. At the very least either Vincent or Taylor. So I think the Eagles have a 1 year window with that defense before it begins to decline even moreso.

I would have to go with the eagles defense, as long as they are able to keep their cordinator they will be very good. They lose starters every year but have such quality backups. Maddox to me seems a scary proposition, and Smith may only have 2 very good years left, who knows with all those qb's in jax.

Maddox.
He was putting up some VERY good numbers in relief last year.

I would go with Jimmy Smith. I think Maddox is a one-year wonder. I don't think he will do as good this year as he did last. The Eagles defense would be good as well if they give you a lot of points in your league but I think Jimmy Smith will be the most consistent.

i would never keep a defense... go with Maddox... and Randal-El is gonna be even better...

Maddox too. He has weapons all around. I think Bettis will be back and have a good year. Their D is also solid and could give the offense good feild position.

Jimmy Smith has always been a good, consistent scorer. I've had him almost all six years I've played.

Hmm- that's a tough call. Might need more details on your league to say for sure. But, just thinking about who would I draft earliest in my own league (not a keeper) - I'd say definitely Jimmy Smith. The one drawback to him is he probably has the least long-term value. But he has the most for this year (and maybe for the year after that), so especially since this is your most borderline keeper- I'd still go with him. Hopefully you'll have someone else better that you draft this year to replace him among your keepers for the following year.

I don't think any of those guys with the exception of Garner is worth keeping. Do you get addition picks if you don't keep 4?

I'll probably keep Smith and hope to get a decent QB in the first round. Thanks!

You don't have any other young players available? I've never kept a D in any of my keeper leagues, the difference between them is so nominal. Both Smith and Maddox have BIG ???? In years past I've often picked up a young guy off waivers that is injured with the intention of keeping him for the next year. Out thinking the next guy wins many leagues.

You can't always do that when you have injuries and you are in the playoffs. For example, I had the misfortune of having Griese and Maddox injured at the same time at the end of the season. We are only allowed to have one IR player. So I couldn't really do anything. Luckily, earlier in the year I traded a second round draft pick for Donald Driver.

don't take a qb in the first unless you want to lose your league... lots of talent will still be available in the fourth to fifth rounds, depending on who everyone else keeps...
there are probably only 4 keeper qb's anyways, so you should be fine there.

Well now I can't keep Jimmy Smith because he does cocaine.

Got to be Maddox, a full off season as the starter confidence building knowing it is his team.
Smith is missing for a couple of games and can probably be picked up again cheaply.
Eagles D one of the best no doubt but keep a D?
How many are in your league? because Henry apart you seem on the weakish side.
