View Full Version : There's really only one move left to make. Get a G.M..

I completely agree that a bad preseason performance if not cause to hit the panic button. But, given the fact that things don't seem so different from how the season ended last year, it might be time for fans to at least consider "worse case scenarios."

IF the Skins do not play well this year, the only truly reasonable move left to make is to fire Cerrato and hire a true GM. A respected football mind. Let THAT PERSON evaluate Zorn, JC, etc. Let THAT person recommend the new head coach.

I know this has been discussed endlessly and the perception is that would be "no fun" for Snyder. But I really think it's the only move he has left. The fans are already on the verge of revolt. The only move left to satisfy them is a GM.

So you realize that it's not time to panic... Yet you are stating that things don't seem so different than last year... Umm...

Perhaps we should just watch to see how things progress, and leave these types of threads for if/when we do need to think about making some changes.

Even though I agree that there's plenty of blame to throw around, the Gibbs 2.0 years makes it very difficult to point fingers at anyone. How many of the personnel mistakes were made by Gibbs and pinned on Vinny? I think he needs at least another year in his current position before we can start to see if the choices Vinny is making are sound or not.

Actually it's completely the opposite of last preseason. Last preseason our offense looked lights out and we tossed the Colts aside and looked fantastic in every phase of that game.

vinny is never going anywhere.

And that. People have been saying fire Vinny since he got here a decade ago. Not going to happen.

I think danny boy knows there will be no mass exodus of fans in DC... he will always sell out and never have to worry about the fan base in DC, it's just not gonna happen, in my opinion... and because of that, he will continue to operate the team in a manner that allows him maximum input into GM decisions; it's just something fans have to accept... his team, his way of running it, he tried to give control over to a respected football mind for a year and came to realize that's not what excites him about being an owner...

Snyder will never be a winner until he understands that he needs to step back and let a football person run the operation. If I were a betting man I would look for a mass exodus in season ticket holder sales next year if he continues to lose. Sure, the waiting line will take up the slack but maybe not as enthusiastic as before and he might have to cut ticket prices in order to get sell-outs.

What about the Gibbs years? Or do you think Gibbs was just Snyder's puppet?

The truth of the matter is this...

Kelly
Thomas
Davis
Brennan
Horton

If those players turn out to be good which I thinks a possibility if they stay healthy then in Ceratto's first draft as GM he picked 5 contributing players last season.

Orackpo
Barnes
Jarmon

That's who I think has a shot at being a good contributing factor from this years draft and supplemental draft. If anyone else steps ups then that's a plus

To me your looking at 8 possible players taken in the last two years that have the potential to be greats for us. That's not a bad resume for any GM.

I agree actually. We've actually drafted fairly well in the last few years, we're just too dumb to hold onto our picks. The front office seems to be learning, but we won't know for sure for a year or two.

Probably the same reason I was No New Thread-ed again, because I kept posting articles that bashed Snyderatto. Apparently this is board for fans who wear rose-colored glasses only.

Yes Knuckleheads #1 and #2, that's exactly right, all the mods are slavering lapdogs that spend the whole day doing nothing but sanitizing the site from any criticism of Vinnie & TheDan

Just wondering, did your moms live in smoggy areas?

No. That was not why you were NNT'd & it's obvious you're clueless as to why. So, take some time off for your false statement, & when you come back, review the rules & your posting history. Maybe even check the READ ME threads in the Feedback forum. ;) And once you've done, it will be crystal clear to you how to get your NNT removed. Provided you have the mental capacity to do so. Had to issue that last line because with your last sentence, it's obvious that your elevator doesn't quite reach the top floor. :)

Vinny let's Snyder run the team so he will be here for as long as Snyder wants. It's not about winning with them. We all saw what happened when Marty was coach for 1 year, he ran the whole show and that was no fun for Snyder....which is why it was 1 year only.

Not only that, but everyone wants to talk about how Vinny has made good draft choices too and then states "he picked, Samuels, Sean Taylor, Landry, etc." Who COULDN'T have picked these players at the top of the draft????? While no draft pick is a "Lock" they are about as close as you can get. Also, what is the reason for having all of those top picks??? The answer is mediocre to losing seasons....and very few draft choices that pan out after the 1st and 2nd rounds....Vinny and Dan are just a poor GMs, but the inseparable butt buddies aren't splitting up anytime soon..

I think the team's performance does have a significant impact on its financical performance. Although the general adm. seats are sold out with a long waiting list, Snyder makes a ton of money on the club seats. These are not sold out, and from what I understand reading the posts here, many of the club seat owners have cut deals for deep discounts. If the team had a good year this year, I sspect most of those club seats would sell, and sell at a higher price. A winning team also means more jerseys, tie-in promotions, etc.

But more importantly, a winning team would result in the media portraying Snyder as a hero rather than the mornon that most people believe him to be now.

So I think Snyder does want to win. I believe he seriously thinks that his contributions to running the football operations are positive.

Snyder lost much respect from long time redskin fans years ago when he paid lots of money for Deon Sanders, the cowgirl showboat. It's gonna take a long time to heal those wounds and even though he got lucky on some of his picks they were mostly bad in retrospect, the record proves it.
