its still pretty early
but I have to go with Timmy Chang of Hawaii, even though, he is a LONGSHOT because of the conference he plays in, he will put up some monstrous numbers this year

I think Eli Manning will probably win. Not because he will be the best player in football but he does play in the SEC and he has some famous relatives. He will also get the much needed publicity so voters will watch him closely and if he does well he should have no problem locking it up.

RB Kevin Jones, VT.
And only because Marcus Vick is a freshman. :)
God I am so ready for football weekends.

As long as its not an RB who only put up big #'s against thrid rate opponents or a QB who won the award only because he had a good college career.
Then, I will be fine ;)

"Thrid rate opponents"? How DARE you? :)
Just for the record:
13 Games, 160 Carries, 902 Yards, 5.4 yards/per, 9 TD's. Worked out to roughly 69 yards/per on 12 carries per game. And did I mention the 9 TD's?
Seriously, though ... since KJ won't be sharing time with Lee Suggs this year,. I don't see much reason to expect a dropoff ... instead, I see every reason to expect he'll get another 8-10 carries a game as well as be worked into the passing scheme a bit more. Nobody is anointing him as Bo Jackson here (the thread DOES read "hope" for Heisman, after all), but I'd be real hesitant to dismiss him quite as quickly out of hand as my brother TEG has.
As for the part about the "QB who won the award only beucase he had a good college career" ... 2 things: 1) hey, that's what they give Heisman's for, man. :) The book may SAY it's for the best player in a particular year, but the reality is the award has become about heading INTO the year as a favorite ... then not falling on your face. And you only get to that point by coming off a damn strong previous year. And 2) I said "Marcus" Vick ... not Michael. Methinks you were perhaps taking a retroactive shot at Mike, no?
Marcus. True freshman. Probably won't play much ... this year. Next year, THAT's when we'll start talking Heisman with a bit straighter face.
Oooooooh, I can feel it coming.
Football.

OM...I was talking about Larry Johnson last year ;) That was the knock on him, at least, that everyone was making...
And a QB from Nebraska a few years before...
For you Big East fans...Keep an eye on WVU's RB transfer Kay-Jay Harris.
No he's not a Heisman canidate...but methinks he will be playing every week in the NFL after this year...6'3" 240lbs...now he just has to live up to his hype.
Good luck Chokies... ;)

Oh. :)
So what do you hear, TEG ... are VT and WVU gonna keep the annual game alive? I've not had the chance recently to read much about it, but did hear it as rumor that the schools are both working hard to make it happen.
I hope so. Lotsa history, and an obvious natural rivalry.

Well...Penn State dropped WVU like a rock when they moved to the Big 10 (er 11)...of course they pretty much owned WVU :(
I hope they do keep the rivalry...but I would think Tech will want to keep the Marshall's and Wofford's on the world on their schedule...since they now have to play FSU, a rapidly improving UVA, and MD every year (and Miami).
Who knows...perhaps the ACC will invite WVU ;) Nah...won't happen.

Like I said, I've heard tell that both VT and WVU are actively working to keep the annual ass-whoopin' we put on ya alive. :)
As to the "Marshall's and Wofford's" of the world, thing ...
1) VT didn't play Wofford ... Maryland did.
2) Putting Wofford and Marshall in the same sentence like that, thus intimating that they are on the same athletic plane, means that you are either a) baiting the Hokie, or b) not really all that tuned in to major college football. I'm betting on "a."
3) I know you've had no reason to, but please consider it gospel from someone who HAS followed VT's scheduling ... that the schedule which has been set YEARS in advance has been actively changing. VT is about contending for national titles these days ... they can't have but one or two patsies on their schedule any more in view of the strength of schedule aspect of the BCS formula. So, like every other school with national aspirations, they will keep one or two patsies on their schedule ... and then wade into the ACC.
Of course, keeping WVU around, while good for the rivalry and all .... does little for our strength of schedule. Maybe we'll have to drop them after all. ;)
As to whether the ACC invites WVU ... the main reason I'd not hold your breath is that it does not bring the major TV market that the ACC so desperately wants, and the Tech only got around due to the machinations of Gov. Warner and the lawsuit. Frankly, I think WVU is better off hangin' with the Big East, and work like hell to help it recruit Notre Dame, Louisville, Marshall (them, again :) ) ...

Ah OM....
1) My bad...I should have said Arkansas St ....but the point I was trying to make is that every team needs some creampuffs on their schedule...and keeping rivalries isn't important as having sure wins. Now I don't think you really mean that WVU is a sure win do you? It wasn't too sure last year was it? And yes, having Marshall on your schedule is a sure win. They haven't proven that they can beat a top 25 team. So in this instance, Marshall does equal Wofford.
2.) I wasn't baiting a Hokie nor am I not well versed in college football. Get it right, I was baiting a Thundering Terd ;)
3.) I know it has...but making fun of rival team's schedules is always fun. In my alma's case...WVU played UT-Chattanooga last year. Who the eff is UT Chattanooga?
And I know that WVU will never get an invite to the ACC...that was a joke on my part...well more like a failed attempt at sarcasm.
Good luck to Tech this year...they are going to need it with all the other BE teams gunning (well extra incentive at least) to show them up this year :)

for once I would like to see the heisman go to the best football player irrespective of position.
like a Right Gaurd, or a Nose tackle....
I know I have a better shot at being the team Doctor for the Redskins. I have in fact in the past volunteered my services...but so far have never been taken up on the offer.

I'll go with Kellen Winslow Jr from Miami.

The LSU game is still on. The Auburn series has been cancelled. And yippee, still have William and Mary on the future schedule.

nice call grape ape, he is gonna be the most important offensive weapon.
i am gonna have to go with a couple of guys from one of my fav schools, Kansas St.
El Roberson-- he has some sick talent. has a great arm and can run as well as any running back in college.
Darren Sproles-- a great back. small like Barry Sanders and quick like him too, but instead of a finnesse game he can run over people.
i wish i could have seen last nights game. sounds like they did alright.
my darkhorse is Greg Jones from Free Shoes University. if he is healthy he'll be unstoppable in the ACC.
