“Orakpophobia” Meaning: Quarterbacks fearing or loathing a menacing pass rusher.
Or –ach-po-fo-bia

Since he stepped on the practice field on the second day of training camp, Redskins rookie LB/DE Brian Orakpo has done nothing but amaze all who follow the team on daily basis.

With the manner and maturity of a seasoned veteran and a voice so deep it rivals that of actor of Michael Clarke Duncan, Orakpo has earned the respect of coaches and teammates alike.

The respect doesn’t come as a result of his 260-pound chiseled frame or the way he handles himself in nearly every aspect of being a professional.

It comes from his tireless work ethic and displaying a willingness to improve under the tutelage of Redskins defensive coordinator Greg Blache, coaches John Palermo and Kirk Olivadotti, and veteran players Andre Carter and London Fletcher.

Orakpo is no rookie in body, mind or ability. He blends with the veterans as if he shares the same battle scars, jostles with fellow rookies and impresses the media all the same.

This is no ordinary rookie. There are no indications of tired legs, that deer-in-headlights look when the offense completely shifts formations or hesitation whenever he attacks.

The 13th pick in the first round of the 2009 NFL draft has come in to the league as if he were on a mission.

Better Than Ware! I will go on record and say he will be the Rookie of the Year (Def and Off combined) and will be in the Pro Bowl. No less than 13 sacks and 2 ints! I am telling you this guy acts and plays like a 5 year vet!

Still like to see him as an everydown DE. Was not too impressed when he played just LB and dropped into coverage

But you don't have a SUPERBOWL ring to prove you know anything. (this is usually what people say when we seem to know more than the coaches)

I don't have a SB ring either but I can tell you that Osi Umenyiora does't drop back into coverage but he always ends up with double digit sacks as a defensive end which helps the corners and linebackers get more interceptions.

Why not let corners cover people and let pass rushers rush the passer. Here's a tip for Blache from someone who doesn't have a SB ring; ORAKPO is a defensive end waiting to sack the quarterback and its obvious to everyone but you.

Do you see the Giants trying Justin Tuck or Umenyiora at the linebacker position? No. Maybe thats why their whippin your butt twice a year.

Well, I don't have a Superbowl ring either but I can tell you that other teams do drop their defensive ends back in coverage every so often.

No, but they do have this guy called Mathias Kiwanuka who can play both linebacker and defensive end, and he's pretty damn good too.

Orakpo is fine where he is right now, and while I think he'd be great as an everydown defensive end, getting the best 11 on the field is going to be Blache's priority. He will develop and become a good LB, in addition to being a great pass rusher (at least from the signs of his play and work ethic).

That said, this guy is hyping him up a lot.

Which is totally logical that you'd be down on him after playing an entire 1st half of NFL football in the LB position for the first time ever. I know I would have had the position down pat by then. He sucks.

13 sacks and a pro bowl nod? I don't know about THAT...especially considering that he'll be spending some time at LB.

I can't wait to see Orakpo unleashed this season. He and Haynesworth (and the rest of the defense) are going to be fun to watch.

He could easily be one of those guys (like D.Ware) that a few years down the road everyone will be saying....Why did so many teams pass on him in the draft. He has all the tools to be great
