Redskins look to be four times better
By John Pappas
Warpath Confidential Editor
Washington fans will have more to get excited about this Saturday night when the Redskins face the Pittsburgh Steelers at FedEx Field. For starters, the starters will play the first quarter, at least. This is better than the two short series fans saw them in last week. Even better, key players who were held out of the scrimmage and first game in Baltimore are expected to play Saturday.
These include two key starters on offense in Clinton Portis and Santana Moss, and two on defense in Albert Haynesworth and Carlos Rogers. Having players such as these on the field can be the difference between the lackluster performance against the Ravens, and what the Redskins hope will be a much sharper performance.
Three of these four, Portis, Moss, and Haynesworth, are players opposing teams have to game plan for. They are impact players who by themselves can change the complexion of a game. The fourth, Rogers, is a solid starter who can help minimize big plays against the defense.

Man, I'm getting so excited for this game....I think it will be a much better test of where we are as a team than the Baltimore game
Are any key guys for us going to be out or is everyone pretty much expected to play?

No starters have been ruled out. Mike Williams, Devin Clark, and Anthony Alridge will probably miss, according to Coach Zorn.

A full quarter of play by the starters should give us a good indication of what this team is capable of.

He had a calf strain I think early in the preseason and he was held out of the B-More game just a s a precaution . I think he was back at practice before then though ...

I hope they give Orakpo some snaps at DE beside Haynesworth.
I like Carter but if you have a Monster (which it so far looks like) then the position should have to be won by carter, not just assumed.

Orakpo is the starting strong-side linebacker. He will be on the line in rushing situations, but not all plays.

this will also be a good test for the oline to see where they are. hopefully pitt doesnt chew them up like last time we played them.

I wonder if Pittsburgh is going to play their studs on defenese. At this point in the preseason most defenses are further along than most offenses, so if Pittsburgh plays their starting defense it could be a little ugly even though we have our starters in there. That being said I am confident that if our offense plays the whole first quarter we will get some kind of points. Really all I want to see at this point is improvement.

I'm very excited about this game. Can't wait to see what these guys are going to put together. And if they don't, they'll know as the first team what needs to be worked on.

Should be an entertaining first quarter.
On another note....I think people need to get over Orakpo playing linebacker. Hes going to be after the quarterback 90 percent of the time, no matter what position hes playing. Think of him as a smarter, slighty less athletic Lavar. Lavar blitzed on like every play.

I think we are going to surprise the Steelers and their fans in this game. They will be expecting to smack us around like they did last season, and like Baltimore did Thursday night.
This is the perfect game for our offense to finally get it together, a win against the world champs, even in preseason will bring great confidence within this team, and more importantly with the play calling and game planning of our offense.
And finaly we get to see the wrecking crew Haynesworth, and our entire starting team on the field together. We must kill BIG Ben and show the world we will be the next world Champs!

I can't wait to see this kid Alridge on the field, he is going to turn some heads for real with his speed, and he has a great chance to be our new kickoff and punt returner. I pray he gets healthy soon.

That is going to be epic fail, watching him try to cover on passes.
They will switch him back to DE within 6 weeks, or if not, whatever coach becomes our new defensive coach next season will put him at DE, and the fans will rejoice.

Unfortunately 4 x 0 is still 0. At least they'll be able to say "I told you so!" when they get blanked again.

Why have Portis play a full quarter. If he goes down, so does our season.
Do they think he forgot how to run and hit?

This is a really great idea! Given the propensity for the Steelers to treat preseason games like the play-offs, and play to hurt people (before you jump all over me, preseason vs. the steelers two years ago, Jansen's leg obliterated after dude jumped offsides trying to make the sack, Troy Palamalu punching JC in the head on his way to the ground AFTER the ball was thrown)
