View Full Version : The Official "Positives I Can Take Away From This Game" Thread

I wanted to start a positives only thread in the same vein as the no beeching and moaning gameday thread.....
So here are my positives...
1. The Redskins came away with no significant injuries
2. They covered the spread!
3. They were within a touchdown of winning near the end
4. It appears they are well on their way to securing a very high first round draft choice in next years draft
5. My wife is going to be so pleased that I'm going to be able to have all this extra free time on Sunday afternoons since I won't be watching this team.

1. Run defense was terrific. London Fletcher has shown that this isn't the year he declines and played like an animal
2. ARE in the slot looks like a very natural fit.

These were my two biggies from the game.
Fletcher was a beast today. He was literally everywhere knocking the crap out of anything near him.
ARE looks at home in the slot. He is going to have an excellent year.
Cooley also looked good.
The offensive line look decent against one of the best pass rushing teams in the NFL.
Oh, and to the OP, if this was your breaking point, if you're really not watching games anymore, then good riddance. Being a fan isn't a weekly decision.

I think that you mis-clicked; this isn't the sarcasm thread.
Good things?
1) Rogers can't catch, but he's still tops at everything else.
2) Horton is boss.
3) Kelly can play.
4) The misery ended relatively quickly.

Am I going mad, or did the work "good" escape your lips.
You must be using a very liberal, relative definition of the word.
Ballsy is even questionable, and easily replaced with stupid, if you are referring to the decisions that I think you are referring to.
Or...you could be being sarcastic, which I hope. Oh, I hope.

The oline did protect campbell against a great Dline and portis did run the ball well when he had his carries

Hunter Smith may be the best offseason acquisition in a long time. And I'm not just talking about the touchdown. He is a solid punter best in a long time and with an offensive day like today a good punter is huge.

I posted this in another thread but here's my take. I think there were a few good things or rather players in todays game and the main person was London Fletcher. This dude gives %100 on every play. I don't see anyone else playing like this guy on the feild at all. If there was someone else I would say Chris Horton had a good game. He is in on a lot of tackles and in the backfeild alot to. Big Albert wasn't bad but he sure was gassed! Another good thing seems to be Randle El in the slot! Doesn't look like many people will be able to cover him in from the slot. Chris Cooley was solid also. The real surprise is the O-Line. They played great in pass protection considering how we thought they would be. Very happy with the O-Line.

We lost in the Meadowlands to start last year, still went 6-1 after it - and this year's next 7 games looks easier.

novaman, real redskins fans watch EVERY game.
ARE in the slot looked great... O-line looked good... special teams was solid... these are major positives.
i also like that we have the rams and lions the next 2 weeks... if campbell doesn't AMAZE, then there should be no problem going to collins early in the season... if jason does well, then it should get him in a rhythm and build confidence.
one game is not a judge, but i put this loss on JC... he was his same tentative self and ypu can't be that in the NFL

We actually did way better than last year after the 1st quarter. I'll take 23-17 over 16-7 opening up at the Giants. The defense got more pressure and got some turnovers.

Similar to last year - and every year - it is damn hard to win divisional games on the road in the NFL. I don't think we played great and the score wasn't as close as the game was, but at the same time you don't look back at this game and say in the grand scheme that we lost alot of ground losing this game.
Much worse if we were like the Cards losing at home to the Niners.

Zorn claims that NY doubled or rolled coverage to Moss's side the entire game...
Guess Kelly is a wash. He should have been getting WIDE open if that be the case.
Now we know why we couldn't get NY out of eight man fronts.
We won't beat a physical team all year AGAIN until we can meet force with force or beat the blitz.
Another repeat of the last 15 years.

in a game we were never in emotionally, we played pretty good. change a few plays here and there and we won the game. a good team doesnt get that way overnight. it takes games like today where they look at the film and realize hey, we couldve won that game. if anything, we held our own, minus the fumble return for a touchdown. campbell still has a ways to go, defense needs to be more aggressive, portis needs more touches, etc., etc., but we held our own, no blowout, no injuries.

The offensive line was outstanding today. Only two sacks, one of which was entirely Campbell's fault and it cost the team the game. This team continues to be in every game despite its quarterback, not because of it.

1.) We have a respectable passing game (not necessarily good though), as long as we don't shoot ourselves in the foot. At least now they have to do more than just double team Moss to shut us down.
2.) Playing the slot, Randel El finally looks like the player we signed years ago
3.) Solid special teams, but could use some better kick returns
4.) No one get ejected for being dumbasses and starting fights, but maybe they should have

Lighten up guys! The original intent of this thread was to be a tongue in cheek thing- kind of like what Letterman does with his top ten lists.
You guys are just taking this all way too seriously. I've actually been a loyal fan since the days of Kilmer, Jurgensen, and Allen. Of course I will still be rooting for them. Go Skins!

I was really impressed with our D in the second half.
Now, granted, I got the impression that the Giants went into the old, familiar (to Skins fans) "play not to lose" mode along about halftime.
But even then. Let's face it, we all remember times when we all knew the Giants were going to run the ball at us, and we still couldn't stop them.
I was impressed with our run D this game.
And with our OL. JC didn't exactly have a lot of time, but this is a team that made it to the Super Bowl, IMO, largely because of their ability to get to the QB using only a 4-man rush.
We had a few sacks. How's that for refreshing?
And, the way I figure it, there won't be a Mod in Tailgate for at least the next 4 days. :)

Glad you noticed Reed's play. In fact, I didn't see Horton play much in the 2nd half. But the TV reception in the bar was pretty poor. But solid tackles by Reed.
Edit: Reed with 2 tackles 1 assist while Horton had 4 plus 5 assists; he must've been all over! AH with 4 tackles is very positive also.

How bout JC having a better QB rating then eli? 93.6 > 93.5
Or the fact we scored more in one game in NY then we scored against them in two games all last year?
If you can see yourself rooting for somebody else, do it, you're making the real fans look bad.

1. The pass protection was not nearly as horrendous as last year. At times it even looked good.
2. The runs inside the tackles were abysmal. This would not be a positive, but I'm hoping that Zorn and te coaches realize this after reviewing the tape and start to pass more on first down.
3. London Fletcher was great, as always.
4. Hunter the punter was consistent.
5. The passing game looked a lot better than the running game.
6. The Cowgirls looked bad against a lousy team and Philly w/o McNabb is going to be hurting.
7. Maybe this is the year we finally draft OL.

Uh, okay, I'll try.
London Fletcher is a monster.
El looks good in the slot.
It actually is possible for Campbell to throw a TD pass to Cooley.
Doughty looked solid coming off the bench.
Hunter has surprisingly good speed for a punter.
That's all I got.

the defense looks good aside from the missed tackles. while i don't necessarily agree with the bend-but-don't-break philosophy, they don't allow alot of points. and god knows, the way this offense looks, they will need to be a top-5 scoring defense.
randle el looks good in the slot, which is where he should be.
pass protection was pretty good against the best four-man rush in the league.
...........struggling to find anything else

And the pass D looked good aside from all those third down completions.

We'll have a new coach and new QB in only 15 games now!!!
Woo hoo!
I swear by everything I own that those 2 points are the only thing that interests me about the 2009 Redskins. I don't care if I watch one play this year. How soon can we clean the garbage out of this town.
Those 2 bums have driven this team even further down the road to claiming the title of worst franchise in the NFL. We're only behind the Browns, Lions, and maybe the Bills.
