Ok, let's go through the facets.
OFFENSE:
Well, the offense started off with a big run and had momentum but Randel El took that all away. I think the offense actually had a decent game, the problem was they couldn't finish what they started because of the lack of execution. It was all there but we didn't execute. The Giants did. The had a gameplan and executed and gashed our secondary and the perimeter. They stayed away from Albert. We didn't have much of a run game but how can you when you know that's what we do the first two plays of each series. Campbell was mediocre but he was not given a chance to get into a rhythm. He didn't even attempt a real pass until what, the second quarter. The theme of offense is lack of execution, the dumb play by El, the dumb decision to throw by Campbell, not stepping into the pocket, poor protection...the offense just didn't execute.
DEFENSE:
The defense just flat out did not execute when they needed to. Countless 3rd and longs blown. Not adjusting to the Giants plan to run to the outside. The first TD was just a complete blown push out by Hall. Smoot didn't wrap either. They looked beaten and lost all day. Haynesworth did what he was supposed to do. They had the one turnover which is a plus but outside of that, they failed to stop on thirds late in the game, which is surprisng since they stopped two 3rd and 1's earlier. The secondary played awful and they did not adjust.
SPECIAL TEAMS:
Hunter Smith was the MVP of the game sadly. The punting was meh. Kick returns were as usual, get to the 25 or 30 but never a chance to take one back with our personnel. But the kicking kept us in the game and he scored a TD so the S/T was successful as a whole.
COACHING:
Awful. Absolutely terrible. This team was not prepared. The defense looked lost against a team with what two receivers. Zone coverages? Obvious blitz packages which resulted in little pressure on Eli. The offense was hurt by piss poor playcalling and as usual, a lack of urgency. When you are down two scores in the fourth, I should not see three straight run plays, especially when the Giants had put a lid on the run game all afternoon. Dumb penalties from lack of preparation and focus. Blache gets a D- and Zorn gets an F-. That was horrible playcalling and clock management.
The overlying theme was lack of execution. So many simple plays that could've made this a completely different game but the Giants knew what they wanted to do and executed. Randel El, execute, throw the ball away...Jason, step into the pocket, don't force a throw when you had a lane to run for a few yards...Hall, really, overrunning that simple tackle...Smoot wrap up.
We have to win next week against the Rams or the pressure will really be on Zorn and Jason. Jason didn't play spectacular but Zorn blew this one, he never gave him a chance to get in a rhythm. I am very disappointed Zorn didn't learn from last season. But it's only week one so don't act like the season is over and even if it ends up being a 6-10 year, we have the Capitals to give us good times.
