They put up basically the same numbers in week 1. Randle El had 9 receptions for 93 yards and Wes Welker had 12 for 96, but that's not the reason I say Randle El can be like Welker. From watching the game it didn't appear that anyone could cover Randle from the slot where it's hard to bump and run against him cause he is either off the line of scrimmage or he's in motion. I can't see many nickle backs covering El in the slot this year. He was and usually is one of the hardest working players on the field. He's much better suited for the slot receiver and I think he will be just as effective for the Skins as Welker is for the Pats. What do you guys think?

He's not the route runner Welker is, but he will be more effective in the slot. That's where he always did his best work for the Steelers.

I hope we can use him like Welker. We need to have Moss and Kelly stretch the field and use ARE and Cooley to run the underneath stuff. That would mean lots of good things for the offense.

This was how we planned to Randel 'El this season. When you watch Welker in The Pat's offense, the majority of his yardages come ATC (primarily screens).

They are alot alike in terms of having alot of quickness, but not top end speed. Randle El wont have anywhere near the numbers though, because New England throws a ton........and they have Brady of course.

Welker is a better PR...just messing around (that dead horse has been beaten).
If we don't find a way to throw the ball down field, ARE won't be as effective in the slot in the long run. But, I think he fits well in there.

I hope those who were saying Randel El should be cut will pipe down for awhile.

I think Welker is faster.

We're finally using him the right way. I think he's going to have a good year, probably not as good as Welker though.

Welker has led the Pats (and been #1 or 2 in the NFL) in receptions for the past 2 years because he creates mismatches in the slot, and the Patriots aren't afraid to work that short passing game all game and all season long. Welker was second in receptions but only 9th in yards, but so what? You can ride that dink and dunk style up and down the field until the d-backs press up, and then pull out the deep strikes. Zorn should do the same thing with ARE - feed him and Cooley early and often.

Welker is a stud... short little guy with great speed and cuts... almost every single pass to him is within 10 yards, but he has to have one of the best yac stats in the league...
Also: very very dependable receiver..

The need to move Moss around in motion every now and then when he has a bad game much like what Dallas did with TO last year. Imagin Santana in the slot position after motioning.

I wish, Welker is much faster and a better route runner. Not even close.

I don't know if it is the way that ARE runs routes or just our offense. But watch Welker and watch ARE in the sam week.
I could be overstating this, but it seems like Welker catches everything while running upfield.
ARE has a tendency to turn, stop, catch the ball, and then head upfield. I think that's why our YAC is not great. To get YAC, you need to be in moving upfield when you catch it. ARE does not seem to do that enough.

I think ARE is best in the slot at #3. A better #3 than Kelly, but Kelly a better #2 out wide than ARE.
ARE was at his best in the "hurry-up" catching passes over the middle when Giants were in their version of "prevent" in the last drive.
Still, he can be very effective this season.

i would say yeah! ARE is just like Welker ... all he has to do is catch 100 balls or more in two consecutive seasons! :hysterical:
i get your drift, but man ...welker, THE LAST TWO YEARS has been an elite WR.
ARE is barely an after thought. he has potential though to do a lot of the same things from the slot ... i get it. He is atheletic enough to cause some damage.
welker by the way is a BEAST run blocker as well ...

I think they are comparable. I did notice ARE dropping to the ground to avoid contact on a couple receptions. Maybe thats the smart thing for a guy ARE's size. Still didn't notice Welker doing that.

Where the ball is thrown makes a big difference as well..
Hit in stride, its easier to turn upfield without slowing down.
However, if you have to stop to catch the ball, the YAC idea go's out the window..
