View Full Version : ESPN and NFLNet pundits picking the Lions to beat us

Herm, why don't you go run another franchise into the ground. Martz, why don't you go take your offense to the UFL.
Redskins, shut these fools up on Sunday!

They are 0-18 since the start of last season. Destiny calls that they be the complement to the Pats and thus destroy the Redskins.
They are wise for picking this. It is inevitable....

It may seem like common sense for them to say the Redskins, but you can't blame them for saying that.

Good, I never thought the Skins would have the "us against the world" mentality against the Lions, but I'm loving the build-up to the game this week. The media has no faith, some of the fans have no faith, and the Skins players are PISSED. Could be a perfect storm in the making to whoop some Lion ass.

I saw this on ESPN. Herm Edwards UPSET picks of the week. Saying that if its close at halftime the Lions can beat the Redskins.
The Skins fans need to stop bad mouthing Edwards. He has done the Skins a huge favor because this is tremendous bulletin board material and the players, regardless of what they say, will be fired up about something like a former player and coach publically saying that an 0-19 team will crush the Redskins.

All talk, no walk.
Stafford will expose the secondary(Dhall, Landry). They've been spared so far because Manning and Bulger don't take stupid chances and risk getting burned too often. Stafford is a rookie learning the ropes and will chuck it wherever he sees fit, even though he's been burned for it so far.

I would love to see us playing with a pissed off type of attitude. I want to see Sellers/Portis running over anybody in their path. Landry actually laying a player out. Haynesworth bullying whoever on their line.

Just saw on ESPN, they had a story about the ZORN/SONNY J feud. They said Sonny ran this town and he questioned Zorn after the game and they played the exchange between them. He better check his fanny because Zorn is on one HOT seat right now!

Oh no, I had this team 14-2 in the preaseason and still think it's a 10-12 win team. Detroit is gonna can them this week though. Calvin Johnson can turn a 3rd and long into a TD and Stafford will chuck it with reckless abandon.

25:00 minutes of TOP for the Rams helped them out.
They are one of the most unreliable Ds ever when the opposing team's ToP is 30:00 or higher. They helped with that number by getting gassed in the first drive of the Giants game. Watch, Kevin Smith will run all over them in a 5:00+ 4th quarter drive.

A note for Assassin21--you want the Skins to come out with "guns blazing?" What guns are you talking about--3 more field goals? Not sure the Skins can deliver 3 field goals on the road. You better hope for a 3-0 win.
Detroit is gong to end its losing streak this Sunday, and this board will go off the wall.

Whatever. The Lions are the sexy pick this week, I expect everyone to pick them. If you ask me, until they prove otherwise they are still bottom feeders who always find a way to lose.
The Washington Redskins own the Detroit Lions. That is a fact. I don't care how good or how bad they are in any given year, they are the one team that never scares me.
You know how Popeyes is the official chicken of the Washington Redskins? Well, the Detroit Lions are the official punching bag of the Washington Redskins.

Skip Bayless picked us to win. He said in spite of our low scoring, we still moved the ball well. He thinks we'll take care of business. To be honest, I was feeling we might lose, but now I'm thinking we're going to handle the Lions. Why I feel more confident now is that I think the players are going to be fired up to prove a point this Sunday.
It kind of reminds me when some pundits thought the Skins might be the team to beat the Patriots the year they almost went undefeated. I recall some saying we were a dangerous game. Well, the Patriots totally destroyed us. I'm not saying the Skins are going to destroy the Lions, but I think we'll get it done.

The skins have the bad habit of allowing back-up and/or rookie qb's to absolutly destroy their D.
The Lions have a habit of getting destroyed by the Washington Redskins.
Wouldn't bet someone elses money on this one, and it should be interesting no matter the outcome.

I hate to say it but I dont think the majority of the team cares all that much.
They seem to be a listless bunch, lacking much fire.
Hope they prove me wrong on Sunday and beat the holy hell out of the Lions.
If I see one person defending the Skins after a loss with crap like, "its hard to get a road win in the NFL..." then they should be banned and beaten senseless.
There is no reason on Earth they should lose to a team who hasnt won since 2007.

So? All they have to do is let the Redskins drive into the RZ and then stop them for a FG. Then just bomb on 1st and 2nd down and just find a way to match up Calvin Johnson against DeAngelo Hall on third down.
Then in the fourth quarter, feed the rock to Kevin Smith to close it out.

Do the Pundits(experts) take into consideration that Simms has a shoulder injury and is probably out of the game and that Portis is expected to run the football?
Do the experts take into consideration that the Redskins 20/20 passing game is clicking and that once inside the redzone changes will be made this week and TD's will be scored?
Do the experts take into consideration a rookie QB is playing a defense that has given up only 1 TD per game so far to TWO quarterbacks who have gone to the PRO BOWL.
No. I didn't think so.

I honestly believe the Skins will DOMINATE the Lions and Stafford will be begging to go back to GA after our D Line gets through with him. I also believe the this week will be a beginning to great season for the Skins IF the coaching staff and team leaders on this team gets the team motivated and executing. The Skins need to roll this week and just feed off of the momentum for the rest of the season. If none of this happens I think many of us will be sorely dissapointed.

Well, its kind of depressing to see that almost all of the Lions' fanbase has confidence in their team to win this Sunday, when last year when we faced them, only about half of them expected to win. I mean, when they are calling into the LaVar Arrington show saying they're confident in winning, chances are, this game isn't something to ignore. This team better play its heart out. Especially since this is the first possible win for the Lions in quite a few weeks due to a rough schedule.

Define "Almost beat".
We outgained them in yardage 439 to 274...
We outgained them in 1st downs, 22 to 13...
We outgained them in 3rd down efficiency, 45% to 16%...they only converted two 3rd down attempts all game...
We outgained them in rushing, 136 yds to 57 yds...
We outgained them in time of possession, 36 minutes to 24 minutes...
We were ahead of them by 12 points with 6 minutes left in the game...
When they pulled within 5 points, the Redskins put together a time-consuming scoring drive that put the game effectively out of reach...
None of that seems to speak to the Lions "almost" winning...put another way, if the Skins had played the way the Lions did in that game, NOBODY here would be claiming that they "almost" won the game...in fact, the overwhelming majority of people would chalk up that last TD drive as being against a "prevent defense", how it required two 4th down conversions to keep the drive alive, and would be saying that the game was nowhere near as close as the score indicated.
Just because the Skins didn't win as dominantly as we would have liked doesn't mean they almost lost...

Now, with the very limited view they have of us (stat sheets, and final score) I can't say it's a horrible pick. We couldn't score an offensive TD at home against a defense which is far inferior to Detroit's. Now we're on the road. I think we will win handily, but I also thought that last week, so.....

It's a sad day in Redskins football lore when we have to go through all of this drama from the media, the fans, the players and I'm sure the coaches just to get this team fired up to win one stinkin' game against a sorry outfit like Detroit. Very sad in my opinion.

In order to play your heart out, you have to care and you have to have heart. This group of Redskins has neither. Lions win and the mushroom cloud will be spotted over D.C. by sunday night.

The Lions put up some points. But not against THIS defense partner.
this defense PARTNER does not scare any NFL team, the secondary sucks and get off the field on thrid down Look for Stafford and Johnson to have big day

not going to happen. stafford has thrown at least two picks in the first two games. we'll have ample opportunities on offense to score points. my only concern is we get too confident after beating up on the lions. c'mon...it's the lions.

Our offense will control the ball. Detroit's not beating us.

I hate games like this. We play down to bad teams, up to decent teams, down to moderate teams, and down to great teams.
Detroit is just the kind of team (O and what dallas???) that we let beat us.
Since Mr. Cooke sold the team, we have not dominated anything.
Nothing.
It is sad.

I'm telling everyone this again, the silver lining of the forth coming loss to Lions is that Jim Zorn will no longer be employed the Washington Redskins come the following Sunday, and Jason Campbell will be gone after this season.

One thing that struck me in this video is that it seemed as if Zorn had to coddle Jason quite a bit. (comforting) Even when the players ****ed up, you didn't see JC with fire going off on players like this guy. JC should have been in Montgomery's face about that play.

I don't know why it would be considered an "upset" pick. As bad as they were last year, they still hung with some pretty decent teams. They have definitely improved and are bound to start winning games at some point. The Skins just need to take care of business.
Some of the 2008 opponents and score:
Atlanta 31-24
Chicago 27-23
Carolina 31-22
Texans 28-21
Minnesota 20-16
Indianapolis 31-21

Ouch! It's pretty damning when your team is predicted to get beaten by a team on a nineteen game losing streak :(

Peyton just got punked by his o-line and told to 'GO SIT DOWN' by what looked like a tackle. That's embarrassing, not really something to emulate

Campbell never seems to get mad. He is a wimpy pansy. Zorn saves his fire for Sonny J.

I saw a lot more fire from JC at the game Sunday than ever before. He was jawing in the huddle and slapping guys helmets. On one pass play to Cooley where he got hit and the ball went out of bounds, he was chewing Heyer's ear off.

I hope the team is paying attention and plays pissed off on Sunday. First it was Mike Martz and Marshall Faulk on NFL Network, and just now on SportsCenter Herm Edwards also picked the Lions to upset the Redskins on Sunday.
Nah! This team has no passion or pride...
It's reflected in the comments made by Cooley, Portis, and Henson.

So Detroit's lost 19 straight regular season games, and their being picked to win Sunday huh?
That in it's self shows exactly what we are and how far we've fallen. :( (Outside of the blind homerism amongst some of our number.).
Here's hoping for a win, (though doubtless they'll put us through it by keeping it real close until the gun), but I wouldn't at all be surprised to see it go the other way. :(
Hail.

It's because he knows. You Play TO Win The Game!!!
We don't do that.
But come on. We don't lose to the Lions. Even I didn't pick them to beat us and Campbell always has a good game against them too.
Redskins 27 Lions 10.
If I am wrong and Edwards is right then fire Zorn on the spot and hire Edwards. :chair:

A note for Assassin21--you want the Skins to come out with "guns blazing?" What guns are you talking about--3 more field goals? Not sure the Skins can deliver 3 field goals on the road. You better hope for a 3-0 win.
Detroit is gong to end its losing streak this Sunday, and this board will go off the wall.
U sound pretty confident with ur position on this....wouldnt happen 2b a gambler would u??

Well I sure as hell didnt sit around for 9 months waiting patiently for this moment only to concede defeat before the game was even played. The story of the 2009 Washington Redskins has not been written yet.

As poor as our offense has been playing, the Lions have a great chance of beating our azz good. They can put points on the board, something we haven't done since Campbell has taken over the offense. We will be the laughing stock of the entire league if we let them beat us.
We have to start turning these field goals into touchdowns, or we will be out of the playoffs by week 11. This team has too much talent and too many weapons for Jim Zorn to keep chained and held back. It's time for coach Zorn to grow a pair and start attacking defenses downfield. Open up your offense and beat the sh*t out of everyone in our way to Super Bowl 44!!!

Agreed. We get scrappy with the good teams but come up short. Then kinda plod along against lesser opponents until one key turnover puts the game in jeopardy.

Why is this surprising to antyone? The fact that the Skins could not score a TD at home against a pitiful team like the Rams makes it seem like a strong possibility that the Skins will lose since they will be on the road against a team that is due for a win.

it's so 'effin sad to see how far our great franchise has fallen.
barely eek out a win against perhaps the worst team in the league (at home no less) and zero touchdowns.
now the only team to ever go 0-16 in NFL history (currently riding a 20 game losing streak and has lost 26 out of 27 last regular season games) -- people are picking them to break the streak against us.
this team is a joke. please wake me from my nightmare.

Haven't you guys been watching Redskins football for the last decade? We are not going to lose to the Lions.
We own the Lions, and will beat them. Then we will beat the Buccaneers and upset the Panthers on the road after everyone picks us to lose. Then the team will come home to play the lowly Chiefs and all the experts will pick us to win by 10+ points and every fan will be brimming with confidence after our 4-1 start. FedEx will be rockin when the team steps onto the field and those boos we heard on Sunday will be replaced by thunderous applause for our gridiron heroes.
Then we will lose to the Chiefs in an ugly, low scoring game and once again everything will be the way it is now.
Duh.

They are 0-18 since the start of last season. Destiny calls that they be the complement to the Pats and thus destroy the Redskins.
They are wise for picking this. It is inevitable....
No .
Not happening except for Haynesworth, although Schwartz knows Al as well as anyone.
There needs to be an 0-18 team that goes 1-18 to complement the Pats 18-1 record in the historybooks.
Yeah, about this thread...
