A friend of mine (a Cowboys fan) who legally bets games just sent me the following e-mail based on my rec for him to bet the Skins -6 this week:

I Will tail you on every Redskins game for eternity. I let last week's ***I told him to bet his house on StL+9.5*** line movement scare me away. Never again. By the way I caught a short segment with Joe Theismann on NFL Radio this week and he was a bit down on the Skins but said something to the effect of if they lose this Game to the lions they would be better of not coming home to Washington because they will get blasted by the fans and media. So don't know how much weight to put into that, but it seems like the players would be feeling some of that heat.

I put together the following response, and given that I've gotten a lot out of this forum having been a lurker, I thought I'd contribute a little... there isn't a whole lot of deep analysis because it's only an e-mail(feel free to flame away anyway), but here it is:

If you listen to Jason Campbell's tone, he's pretty much stopped
caring about the fans and the DC media, he's playing for himself. The
problem, so far, this year has been Santana Moss, the guy's not
getting as much double coverage as he would have you believe and he's
giving up on plays left and right. Cooley and Randle El are true
professionals though, and they're making up for Moss's lack of
passion. As for this game, Detroit's D is so bad, even a half-hearted
Moss should get into the endzone.

I just think a lot of people are on Detroit because of last week's
score. It's never pretty when you win 9-7... also, the thought of
"they've got to win sometime" has people pointing to this week's game.

If *anyone* has really analyzed last week's Redskins game, they'd know
that the Skins moved the ball at will, and only two dropped passes,
poor Zorn play-calling, and a fluky fumble by Moss kept them from
being way into the 20's. That's all about execution, which as seen
from the previous game has actually improved. These new WRs are
actually playing now and the offense is being broken in.

This is not a team that's really going to score 30+ points on offense,
but I can definitely see the D scoring this week. Watching last
week's game, despite having only one sack, the D PUMMELED Bulger (see:
Bulger having to burn a 2nd half TO because he was woozy from having
Haynesworth fall on him). The 'Skins have played two very experienced
QBs in their first two weeks, and they've both been getting the ball
out really fast knowing that the D-line is very goot. That's not the
case this week, obviously, with Stafford.

As much as people are down on St. Louis (as they should be), Spagnuolo
is a D guy and they make very good use to their limited resources
(Otogwe is a stud S and flies around the field). The Detroit D is
putrid. No Ernie Sims just makes it worse. Do they have *anyone* on
D?

The reality is, if they do happen to lose, the sky WILL be falling,
but I just can't see them losing. The only real thing that worries me
if they have DeAngelo Hall 1-on-1 at any time on Calvin. Rogers needs
to be pressing him with a safety over the top. Steven Jackson had one
run of 62 yards that Chris Horton missed a tackle on (a RARE
occurrence... btw, I think this Horton guy is the best DB on the
Skins, and the other three bums are 1st rounders, and he's a 7th...
also, I think within 2 seasons, he'll be at a Pro Bowl), and did ****
the rest of the game... he rarely, if ever got to the second level of
the defense. The moral of this paragraph: Kevin Smith won't run on
the Redskins...

Wow, this is about as long as John Locke's 'Two Treatises on
Government' (wrote a paper on it in AP Gov't)... sick... moral of the
story: bet the 'Skins...
