Clinton Portis is too be used "sparingly" against the Lions today. Expect to see Betts in the backfield, and some Alridge. Also expect Zorn to use the same kind of gameplan against the Lions as he did the Rams. Which is to throw more then run, and I have been told the red zone offense will look very different.
Per Fan House: 11:10 AM: Clinton Portis will play in Detroit, according to Adam Schefter, despite an ankle issue.

If he's not 100 percent why play him? Use this game as an opportunity to see what Mason and Alridge can do

People can argue all they want, but this team's identity is now throw-first.
Believe it.

We should be able to pass all over there D, just scoring and stopping C. Johnson is are only problems. We do that, we win easy.

That could turn into a bad situation...Betts comes in and the O explodes, Portis comes in next week and the O stinks. That could make for a interesting situation.

I want Portis to always play, but I think we have good enough talent in the backfield to handle the Lions. Sit Portis. Keep him as fresh as possible for the second half of the season and all those division games.

As long as we don't run 4 straight times, or have a HB pass....it'll be improved

I'm kind of excited to see what Aldridge can add in a regular game, and at the same time I'm kind of scared to see what Aldridge can take away from a regular game (fumbles).
Hopefully it will all be good. I think the Lions are the worst run D in the league, so this is a great week to rest CP and use the other guys, hopefully work out the kinks in that pesky red zone problem, and gain some seriously needed confidence in scoring TDs.
GO SKINS!

and if they can't do much Cartwright has been an effective runner in the past.

Just an honest question: How much of this is verified, seeing it's from the "Washington rumor mill"?

I don't mind that question....
It's pretty verified...as I run WRM....Just watch the pre-game shows...i'm sure they'll say something about Portis.
lets remember, I am the one that broke Zorn being on the hot seat, even before the Rams debacle, and if you look at the archive, I haven't been proven wrong.

lately, it seems like he is usually used "sparingly." i hope he gets a good amount of snaps, bc the success of our team hinges great on his presence AND performance

I don't think he'll get more then 10 carries. As I all ready stated he'll be used "sparingly." I think some believe it'll be a Betts show...I don't think that'll be the case (just my 2 cents).

He's inactive. I think Rock should be the third running back behind Betts. Aldridge should be used a few times in various situations, like to see them throw a screen to him.

I don't think it will be any more sparingly than it was in previous games when Zorn rotated backs in. In this case, instead of Mason in the Rams game we have Alridge in the Detroit game.
BTW, Mason is inactive.

He got 19 attempts against the Rams...I don't think he comes anywhere close to that, maybe 10.

You don't need to wait for the game against Detroit to know that we would have been much better off right now if we were intelligent enough to trade Portis for Boldin or a right tackle years ago.

He does get a chance today.
To keep Mr. Betts hydrated.
Gatorade and sweet tea.....it will test all areas of his game.
He is inactive.

He shouldn't drink sweet tea during a game. All that sugar will dehydrate him more.

Now Campbell is going to dump it off to Betts all the time, instead of throwing long.
Luckily the Lions defense sucks bad enough that it could still work.
But we lose the chance to gain some confidence in our deep passing game.

My Redskin motto has always been "As Clinton Portis goes, so go the Washington Redskins." I do not like not having a proper dose of CP. :(
Note to coach: Give Aldridge 10+ carries.

Let's show them what a real WCO running/receiving game looks like.
Christ, here we go... Betts will have a decent game against a defense recently declared to be the worst in NFL history and a team that hasn't won since 2007, and McD5 will be bombarding everybody with talk about Betts starting.

People can argue all they want, but this team's identity is now throw-first.
Believe it.
And there's a problem with that?
Throw first is fine, as long as:
(1) High priced receivers CATCH the ball
AND
(2) We let the QUARTERBACK throw the ball. Not the halfback! (Unless we are 21 points up).

He needs to stay fresh. He is still far and away the best RB we have. I like this idea as opposed to wearing him out by late October like last year.
