View Full Version : Greetings From Your Ambassador Of Goodwill

The Mods are over-worked right now. And the ban button & NNT designation is being used a-plenty. The moderators have near-infinite patience, but I can tell you it's wearing paper thin. There are "culling the herd" memos being passed around. In addition, the max # of members online just set an all-time record from 2,700 prior to today to over 4,000. This happened about an hour ago.
Advice:
1) Keep your emotions in check. We have rules. If you break these rules by saying something inappropriate, instead of getting a day off or a week off, you may get six months off. Think about that.
2) Do NOT start a new thread unless you are absolutely sure it is a fresh, thought-provoking and unique idea. If you are not sure, err on the side of caution and don't start a new thread. Express your thoughts in the random-thoughts thread or the express-your-rage thread or one of the other eighty-eight threads that have been started over the past hour.
Thank-you.

Don't know what people are so upset about. Not like we ran a halfback option with the game on the line again.
Zorn's improving!

MTH, like the 'take charge' message. You mods busy next Sunday? I know a football team that could use leadership like that OLS

It was far from a happy time game-wise or mod-wise :( . I remember a few times with the old staff, when there were 5-7 of us active on gameday, when in Gibbs first two years there were weeks where it was about this bad, but it was pretty sad on all fronts today.
I left the house after the game, but during it, it was busier than hell with the board, and I had my limit. :)
Which for me is saying a hell of a lot :D as some who know me well by both personality and profession will appreciate.
But I am now at 49er Phil's pad, and though he lost today too, he's got a lot more to be happy about than any Redskin fan. I am not going to be doing any closing, merging, or anything else for awhile.
So bad as it is, and while wondering what tumult and change lay ahead, I hope most of the members can find it within themselves to practice some self-restraint and apply some real thought to go with their opinions, even with the venting.
I think many here still do a damn good job of offering that "higher standard" of participation. Here's to better football days, someday, I hope. Everything else in life is pretty damn good. ;)

Turn on my ban button, please - I'll throw some blocks for ya! ;)
And....... I've noticed MANY newbies on this board.....everyone knows how I feel about trolls pretending to be "true" Redskin fans........
IMO- THERE seems to be alot of "trolling" fans stirring up the forces. :saber:

Wow the mods run this message board better than the coaching staff / front office runs the team. You (the mods) ever thought about going into coaching and General management? Because I know a team that can use your assistance.

That, and losing track of our drink count so it doesn't matter much anymore today. LOL
On a different note ... if anyone else has watched the Chicago-Seattle game, that is a rather hideous shade of green that the Seahags are wearing today.

I don't envy you mods today.
Having said that: I am still more angry than I've been at this team in about 18 years! ;) So angry, that at least seven times today, I THOUGHT ABOUT starting a new thread! :hysterical:

Under the circumstances, that might qualify as a mercy killing...

I don't envy y'all one little bit today, and I don't think this week will be too cheery either.

I don't need the ban-hammer, could I please just have a merge button :) Do we really need all of Zorn's calls discussed individually?

FYI, personal opinion, but respected members asking if they can use the ban button is damn near as irritating as sifting through all the trash in the Stadium.
Just stop doing it. The mods job is hard enough without having others who want to go on power trips. We all have ideas of how to clean this place up, I'm sure they've been discussed ad nauseam by the staff.

Phoward12:
My request was not made for a "power trip" as you suggested - there were posts were being made personal- either direct or insinuations- towards other respected members of this board, or shall I say members that I respect, and a 1 day ban would have done the degrading posters wonders. We have way to many "newbies" on this board with way too many negative opinions towards other longevity members that do good and post very little, if any, negatives toward the owner, team and other members of this board.
But, I didn't get a ban button - so I went on a defense attack - and I didn't miss many negative posters "bread baskets" with personal posts. So instead of posting about me asking for a ban button- you could have gone out into a thread or two and helped me out! :silly:;) Maybe, next time?

Having been on a few other boards, these are the most level headed and professional acting mods I've seen. They actually act like mods, which explaine why the Skins offically adopted them. Gotta be tough to try keeping the fires under control while oil just keeps getting added every game.

That being said, while I don't have the temperment to be a mod, if you guys want lots of chlorine thrown in this pool, indiscriminately and with plausible deniability on your part.....
gimme a "temp ban button". :evilg: Just for a little while.

We've been talking about that - just start tossing the memberships of every new thread starter regardless of the subject starting Sunday at 1 PM and ending Monday evening.
That should thin things out a bit.

From another thread...
If NNT worked, we wouldn't have a problem. It would have been fixed years ago....
I have not been here at ES very long.
I was a longtime lurker and signed up because I liked what I saw here.
I believe the mods do a great job here. Just take a look at some of the other boards. I think we can all agree on that.
But I do have an issue with the NNT.
It just does not work.
I know duplicate threads happen at the exact same moment, and I don't think I have seen anyone NNT'd for that.
But to start a new thread that says "Fire Zorn" is a blatant violation of the rules, and a disrespect to this community. No amount of "the search wasn't working" or "it wasn't on the front page" is going to make up for that.
A mod puts the OP in the NNT Club.
And then the fun begins.
The NNT'd poster asking about it in other threads. Endless PM's to the mod's. Ranting posts about how unfair the mods are. Debating the rules with the mod's. Calling the mod's "nazi's.
Then the poster is banned.
Banhammer, read only, whatever, but this place is getting a little crazy.
Sorry. I had to rant somewhere.
Hail.
