Right now, there's no cap for 2010. Yes, they are restrictions for the Top 8 teams but anyone honestly think this team will be one of those Top 8?
Pray that the NFL goes into the 2010 season with no cap because that maybe the best way to just get rid of all the bums. Yes, it would mean rebuilding but this team needs a total maker and having a no cap makes it better.

I remember when I was a kid I picked up the USA today and they had this big picture of the Redskins with Norv Turner. They had recently purchased a slew of free agents, including Deion Sanders from Dallas. I thought to myself "The Redskins are going to be so good, I mean they got all this talent they brought, we can't be beat."
Then the Redskins went out and Norv Turner got fired that year if I remember correctly and the Redskins missed the playoffs.
The moral of the story is even if there is no cap we have to resist the urge to spend like crazy. Champions don't do this in the NFL. Championships are won by stellar drafting and scouting. Championships are won by brilliant coaching. Championships aren't won by snaring the biggest talent in a free-for-all rush

I think the point is we can cut all sorts of overpaid underperforming guys without killing our ability to field a competitive team
This team needs to be blown up, but can't because of all the bad contracts

I see
Would be awkward to see a lot of people and regulars be released but hey, if there's another poor season from these fellows I guess it's time to rebuild. Just don't buy the overpriced, overrated toys. Get some decent fellows who play hard, people like London Fletcher, solid personnel

I think a no-cap year would be a disaster for this team. The temptation would be too strong to go out and try to buy another team rather than the rebuilding we've been putting off year after year.
A no-cap year would buy a lot more lipstick for the pig, and that's about it.
EDIT: I understand the point about shedding contracts. But there is no way Snyder and Vinny would take that opportunity and not also go out and try to buy a new team of big names.

+1, cause currently, no one at Redskins park seems afraid for their job, coaches included.

Joe Gibbs should be our GM, he could help Danny draft solid talent so the team resists their temptation to trade draft picks for overhyped toys
We stink without Mr. Gibbs' guidance :(

Sorry, disagree. Gibbs 2 was the best thing that happened to this franchise since Gibbs 1, but he is not the best judge of talent. Maybe you can't really blame him for Brunell flaming out, but I believe that was his choice of a vet QB that was going to lead us to a Super Bowl. Didn't work out so well. If we had Kurt Warner in 05 and 06 instead of Brunell, who knows how well we would have done.
Gibbs was, however, an EXCELLENT motivator and coach. I wish he had actually stayed with the team as an advisor like he said he would when he left again.

I am confident enough that in 2010 we will have someone of competence getting us players.

Umm, Gibbs II signed off on a lot of traded away picks. Both directly for useless players (Duckett, Lloyd) and for position in the draft to get such future HOFers as Jason Campbell.
He's not the best judge of talent. He wasn't the first time either.

Now that I think of it Gibbs was a great coach but not the best GM. I retract that comment
Should get someone solid to GM the team though, can't really think of any names right now

Yes!!! that could be our get out of jail free card. Dump Moss, ARE, Portis, Rabach, Hall, Smoot, Griffin, Thomas, Samuels. Draft what we can in the next few years. Bring in a young talented free agent or two. And most importantly a GM or coach with management expertise.

Is it really going to be that easy? An uncapped year and we just get to jettison half the team?
Let's see:
Thomas
ARE
Portis
Hall
Moss
They'd be the first five I'd drop.
