View Full Version : STOP! DO NOT Start that thread until you read this...

This forum is being spammed with too many threads. And quite frankly, that wouldn't be a bad thing if the threads were interesting, thought provoking, well thought out, and promoting discussion. But they're not. Just look at the first page.
So, a little rules review.
1. Be sure to use an accurate thread title. Per forum rules. Thread titles should not be in a "click on link to find out format". For instance, this is an example of a bad thread title:
"Main problem with Redskins...."
good thread title:
"The offensive line is the heart of the offensive problem"
Also, ALL articles posted should have the source followed by the title of the article. Example of bad thread title:
"Mike Wise says Redskins Suck"
good thread title:
"WP: Redskins Suck (Mike Wise article)"
2. Use the search feature. This is not an option or a recommendation, it is a requirement to start a new thread. I have seen dozens of redundant threads being started over the past 24 hours. It is pushing discussion off the front page.
3. Above all, please be interesting. Contrary to what some might think, the majority of opinions are really not that original. They can very easily be placed in an existing thread. You will be respected much more for it, trust me. Some of the best posters on ES rarely start threads. You know who you are. :)
I see a thread about tipping point on the front page. Well, the fanbase isn't the only thing at its tipping point. This board is at a tipping point too.
So before you click that New Thread button, be sure... extra sure... that the topic has not already been posted, that your premise is interesting, and that your thread title is properly formatted.
This is not a recommendation, this is a requirement.
Starting immediately, any threads that do not meet board criteria are going to be locked and the thread starter is going to be banned.
This is a position that the staff does not enjoy taking in the least, but in the best interest of extremeskins.com, we will do what needs to be done.

What about having people earn the right to start threads? They have to do that after a NNT, so why not the other way around?

He seems to have decided that the Jim Zorn's mastery of the WCO is a hill worth dying on. Which is an interesting decision, I have to admit.

Bubba, I think you bring a lot to this board. I really do. I learn more from you and some of the other originals on here than I do watching Comcast Sports or Redskins Nation. And excuse my comment to you in this thread last night, I was half way joking-as were you.
But if you don't mind me saying so, you sport B&G shaded glasses way too much. The thread yesterday or Sunday night about the Skins not being alone is a perfect example. I know just looking at records, of course we are not alone, its only been 3 weeks. But the teams you compared us to in your thread was ridiculous. I think it was the Steelers, Titans, and I forget the 3rd team. There was no logical way to compare this team's situation to theirs. There just wasn't. I know that is an opinion, but it is an very big majority opinion of anyone who follows football.
When you say things like that at worst possible moment, its hard not to expect a bunch of drivel from the others who don't see things as "glass half full" as you do. But keep on keeping on man.

I've recently added a couple posts to the "Noteworthy Posts" Thread. This makes a total of three in there as of now. Obviously, these were chosen by me, for better or for worse. But what I think is interesting is, of the three posts, only one of them were OP's.
My point is, if you have something thoughtful to say, it's not always necessary to start a new thread.
And if you don't have something thoughtful to say, it's certainly not necessary to start a new thread.

I disagree, most people assume that without reading what was written.
not one time in that thread did I praise the Skins, compare them to the other teams, or even discuss the skins.
I was referring to we aren't the only fans suffering, that's all. But I was bombarded with homer attacks... posters trying to say this team is worse, basically having a pity party.
and even if posting from a homer perspective, it doesn't excuse the pointless responses. Disagree fine, prove me wrong with facts and logic....
in one thread I was breaking down several points with actual facts, and the reply I got was ... "blah, blah, blah... I didn't even bother to read your post" he added a few stupid names and ended by telling me to go back stroking myself....
Sadly with the quality of posters now days, this is the normal type response

thats going to happen, but i agree. sometimes i'm the one that does it, but i try not to.
i think the bigger problem... is that people here don't read threads. they post threads. they don't say 'i want to talk about this, are there any threads on this? oh theres one, let me start on page one, and see if what i'm going ot say has already been said and discussed'. normally they just start a new thread. if they actually take the time to search for a thread, then they normally skip straight to the last page.
the end result is what we have now: a ton of threads about the same thing, with different titles, and different groups of people discussing it in the same way.
when we do we get one good thread going, it turns into a 'recycle the last page' thread. people come in on page 11 saying the same uninformed/incorrect information as the people on page 10 - they didn't bother to read page 10, so 70% of page 10's content can be found on page 11 (although it may be posted by different people). The result is a 25 page thread, with about 3 pages worth of content. Which makes anyone worth discussing items with, stop paying attention to it.
its sad. and i think the best thing to do, is to require someone be a member for x months before posting. this way they see the way the board operates before just jumping in. judging by the way things have been lately, i'm starting to think a lot of people around here have never been on a message board before... (no problem with that, but i wish they'd read the rules)

I just dont start threads. When I first got here I wanted to be one of the guys that was first with a thread, or have great ideas for threads. The thing is, those positions are already full. Quality thread starters around here and there isnt any need to compete with them really.
People start threads when their post in a thread wasnt responded to, or responded to enough times, or if they think their point was glanced over in another thread. It happens to everyone. I hate it when I make a decent point (b/c its rare ;) ) and nobody makes mention of it or responds to it. However when noone responds it should do one thing for the person who made the comment nobody responded to. It should help that person realize that their post wasnt as great as they thought it was.
Its soooo much easier to just read and respond. No hassle or race in being the first one to post something or have to worry about it being in the right forum, thread worthy, grammatically correct and punctuated correctly, ect. Starting threads is much more hassle then its worth... and if your thought doesnt get responded to... so what.
Thats all I got.

Well, in the three main forums, there's one with no "rules thread", one with one, and another with two, for a grand total of three for three forums. So your post seems kinda "whatever", but no biggy. In the past, there have been times where there were even more (gasp!). For a forum this size and this active, and with such relatively few mods, I don't think it's too bad and experience shows they do tend to help, though a few folks have some "issues" with some of them. Hard to find a thread I can't say that about, though.

I can understand it being locked if the mods disagreed...you say potato, i say......but for me to get NNT'd, especially considering the few new threads that I have posted over the years, is really uncalled for and extreme.
To the red highlight: we had numerous existing threads calling for such actions in a variety of fashions. Your post should have been in any one of the "Hang Snyder/theFO/etc" threads.
The NNTs are being issued to many peope as rule violations became excessive with the current emotional upswing. Enforcing the rules, esepcially duing times like these, helps manage the board and keep it more functional for the majority of posters. Trying not to show favoritism by join date or number of threads/posts by the member, neither of which has anything to do with rules or rule enforcement if you read the rules page, is simply being fair and impartial. Those are usually good things in such situations. Like giving speeding tickets to whoever's speeding. Simple. Your "potato" is one thing, your "uncalled for" and "extreme" is silly. And I was kind in this reply. :)

I have not started a thread since April, averaging one post a day and 10 threads a year, yet you guys are in here piling on me and saying I like attention?
You guys are full of ****.
It's funny how you guys trivialize and get to decide at a whim whats worthy of a thread. My post was not meant to be a bash Snyder thread, but a way to implore him to do the right thing.
I specifically started a new thread to compel people to take action and quit bitching and moaning about the state of the franchise.
I guess this board is just a medium for you to stroke your oversized ego.
Good luck with that.

Not only did your "rebuttal" fail to countermand any of the points we made to you (the needed comprehension seems to elude you) regarding your whiny need to make a drama out of a damn closed thread of yours, but I have little doubt that the kind of mentality that serves your moving this trivial nonsense into a personal review of the size of "our" egos (projection?), make an accusation that we do this work based on "whims", and inspire your ironic claim that we're full of ****, will also block you from learning anything from the fact that (at this point) we will let you be such an insulting dip**** without additional penalty. :)

I think your actions regarding "projections" are louder than my words. The evidence for your (the mods) arbitrary and capriciousness is well evidenced in previous posts in this thread. The needed comprehension to face that evidence does seem to elude you though.
I get it, you guys have your favorites, they may be twits, but they're your twits.
I stand by my previous statements. My post was unique and deserving of its own thread. I thought it was provocative, but not enough to get locked and certainly not enough to get NNT'd. I was wrong. It apparently touched a nerve.

The board is definitely at a crossroads.
Enter an "original" thought in an existing thread, which on gameday, will be 2-3 pages ahead after your post...hence no meaningful discussion.
Or start a post with an "original" thought only to have it closed before meaningful thought can continue.
One thing for sure, meaningless thought "new" threads roll off the page as fast as they appear. Maybe in some respects it is better that way?
There is little opportunity on here to start a meaningful thought thread on the board here anymore.
Not that I am defending this posters thoughts as I find it silly.
However some posters like burgold get a break on meaningless thought threads even though they don't offer much more to the board than this guys post??
Maybe what I am saying is good threads will get their own traction, and bad threads disappear quicker than they are started.
I am not sure what is worse. 15 threads on the same topic, or one thread with 1000 plus posts with nothing more to post than the same one liners.
Jumbo

I'd contend he board's not at any crossroads at all, objectively. The same kind of comment can be found at virtually any time since a year after it began. It will be said again in the future. Rarely is it more than just a passing perpception usually driven by feelings of the time at hand and then things move on. In the big picture, short of an actual major "mission statement" change, little about the fundamental nature of board dynamics changes, other than what major differences in membership volume brings to a degree. And then it's just a case of "more of" as opposed to "really different."
On a more broken-down time-scale, some months/weeks have relatively marginal and transient differences over others.
Art created the NNT category years back in response to an increase in membership and more people not bothering to learn and follow the rules as they agree to do when they register. Then, too, some people talked about "crossroads." As people in the best position to know, we have found NNT to be very helpful. It is now years later. It is still very helpful.
People have all kinds of opinions about things (see tailgate :silly:) and like to pontificate, which is why there are message boards and that's part of the deal. Some people, from time to time, have difficulty resisting making matters more significant than they really are in the long run. Wins and losses are what counts most. :D

While I agree...it's also hard to get into meaningful "wins in losses" in the same thread where there are 100's of post stating the same one liners, and where responses occur at such a rate, that your post gets lost in the ether. Not that they really matter anyway. :silly:

Yes, and don't misunderstand, Chip, I'm not trying to blow-off the reality of the additonal volume. I just take what might be termed a bit "farther back" view in terms of perspective. By that I mean that any time I am romanticizng the "old days" I pull up dates and on almost any given day I can find a share of everything form smart to stupid to crazy to ignorant to informed etc etc. That's still basically the same.
Virtually every day there are truly excellent football discussions on the front page of the stadium, a plethora of current Redskins news stories, and a ton o crapola. Only the "size" of it all is a bit more to deal with, not the actual type and level of content (I speak in a "roughly" sense, and with variance as perviously noted, from time to time). As far as gameday matters, it is equally true that a huge membership is reflected most especially then in voulme of "me too" reactions and that challenges board management. And we actually have less staff than in the past. But I can go back to gameday threads form when I first joined the staff and see much the same thing. You should see the PM's and staff e-mail chians I have saved to disc. ;) We would have 6 or 7 of us (instead of 2 or 3) talking about how "insane" it was and how many threads we had to merge or close and how many bans there were and how hard it was to keep good topics on the fornt page...see what I mean? :)
So, it's all true enough in different ways, however you want to look at it. But things will go on, and we will do the best we can.

You guys do a great job and I am certainly not trying to take away from that.
Sometimes I just feel on game day, and the next, its hard to have a point given the shear volume.
And given my propensity to stay away from getting wrapped up in the game day madness of extremeskins...sometimes I like to check in on the pulse of the fans....but with all of the merges going on...I can't get a quick pulse check other than checking in to a thread that has so many posts it's hard to get a quick pulse check and tends to "water down" anyones original thoughts.

Understood, and I think this opening series has been more true of that than last year. After the roller coaster ride of 2008, and wondering about the new HC & JC in the second year of change, and our hopes for our new personnel and hopefully-improving rookie WRs, the hordes were primed for a big fall if it went bad, which it did.
Personally, for now, I'd think it smart to stay away from most any sports board this size with a franchise in this state, on gameday. Unless you come on after a win is in the bag. Or unless you're one of those who likes to ***** and moan in a crowd. :)
The last two losses were extra hard on the board, which is what I was referencing when I said on a week/month basis there definitely are times that are notably better/worse than others. I can only dream what it would be like on this board to have a 12-4 or better season and go deep in the play-offs. A SB win is almost unimaginable, board-wise (I remember well our last one, fan-wise).

for goodness sake we are 1-2 of a 16 game season.... and the Skins under Snyder is not even close to the dysfunctional behavior of the Lions under Millen

...My post was unique and deserving of its own thread. I thought it was provocative,...Of course you did. It's human nature. Everybody thinks their thread is the most important thread on the board. Everybody thinks their post is the most important post in a given thread.
But, I think if your thread was really thread-worthy, a fellow member would have spoken up in your defense by now. Somebody would have said
"Ya know, I thought RedskinDan0557's thread was particularly interesting, and I'm disappointed it was closed."
...or words to that effect.
Nobody has.

Now, I'd like to comment on last Sunday/Monday.
Usually on game day, I'm either at the game, or I'm somewhere else watching the game (because my TV sucks). But for the Lions game, I was home and tried to help moderate the best I could.
Holy ****! What a pain in the ass!
The **** just scrolls down so fast, you can barely keep up with it. It seems the entire membership is made up of morons. I know that is not true, but it seems true, because even if 10% of the 2,000 to 4,000 people online make idiot threads, it results in dozens and dozens of threads that need to be closed, and dozens and dozens of NNT's that need to be issued. And this needs to be done as quickly as possible to keep up with wave after wave of ill-advised threads.
I can tell you being on staff on Sundays and Mondays is no fun. We don't get to casually peruse threads and comment at our leisure. There is no time. Instead, we have to try to keep some sense of order in a house of madness. It is work and it is exhausting. After 3-4 hours, your shoulders ache and you get burnt out. Your eyes burn. But the **** keeps coming endlessly. It's like trying to plug a leaky dike which seems to be crumbling all around you.
And remember - we're fans too. We are feeling the same emotions. We just don't have time to express them because we are so busy dealing with the minority - and it is a minority - who either never bothered reading the rules or never bothered reading the stickied OP (whichever one it is), or they simply think they're better than everybody else and don't have to adhere to ES guidelines regarding starting threads.
So the staff will keep issuing NNTs and temporary bans - ESPECIALLY on Sundays and Mondays.
Know that if you choose to start a thread on a Sunday or Monday, you are putting yourself at risk. You would be wise to be sure your thread is interesting and is not already posted and is not already being discussed in a thread five lines down.
To avoid NNT and a possible temporary ban, please click here (http://extremeskins.com/showpost.php?p=3980771&postcount=1) for more info.

(1) Jason Campbell Sucks
(2) Jason Campbell is the Anti-Christ
(3) Everything is Jason's Fault
(4) Jason Campbell is Responsible for 9/11
(5) Jason Campbell Murdered Michael Jackson
(6) Jason Campbell Hasn't Completed One Pass This Season
(7) Jason Campbell Invented Crack and Distributed it to the Ghettos
Is that okay? I see there are a bunch of other threads regarding Jason, but I think these are all threads which break new ground.
Now that was funny. I personally think that the ES BB should be nothing more then a bunch of threads telling the membership what they can and cant start threads about and or post. That would be kick ass:point2sky AND BEFORE ANYONE GETS MAD AT ME...I AM 100% BEING A WISEASS!

Bubba is a smart guy no doubt and I respect him and the others who work on this BB. But you have to keep in mind (and I am sorry if this offends the mods) this is a Redskins owned BB and these guys get perks for what they do from the team. Well, I know you believe you mean no offense, and I take none personally, but people pretty consistently think they know more than they know. as I have said before that while I have been on staff the last four years and on active duty more than any mod other than Rick, I have not taken one perk of any kind other than a Redskins anniversary DVD that Huly & Pez got for me. I'm just speaking for myself. I also work 40 plus hours per week and volunteer another 10 in various capacities besides doing this and I also enjoy the **** :D out of my personal/recreational life, despite the scheduling. One way I do all this is I am not online much other than for ES and research/work, and I don't play video games.
As for anything my fellows have received that we may call "perks", if you took the total "compensation" for the work they did, like getting to cover a game once or twice a year at best, and includes a lot of work for the site in the process, and figured it was any real motivation for affecting a mod's "commentary" or making it worth the time and trouble to actively manage the board (be here much that is and do it for very long) you'd be mistaken.
The staff I have known here over the years say what they think. However they come off to you, those are their real opinions. To even nicely suggest otherwsie is totally off-target. And if you can read, you see most staff poop and bite on the team as, and whenever, they feel the need.
But I also read your response to Mark, and I know you're not trying to be thorny. It's simply pointless to link "perks" as some kind of swaying motivation for what this staff does, or how it acts, for ES and the Redskins fanbase overall. :)
BTW, I got a PM from that dude Dan who was complaining, and it had a "Please delete my account" title, and I just deleted the PM without reading it (experience), thinking "jeez drama boy, just quit logging on, you don't need a final fluster and grand announcement." Really? I sent a pm to have my account deleted, and yet you guys post about it here. Who's the attention whore?
Like I've previously stated the evidence for the mods arbitrary and capriciousness is well documented by posts in this thread. I might as well add your proclivity towards being "attention whores" and letting your egos get the better of you.
Like I've said, delete my account, then you can bash away.
On edit bubba, why your involved in this is a wonder but does serve to prove that the mods do have their favorites. Don't assume that your special, there are plenty of people out there that can take your place.
if the mods didn't want you to defend yourself wouldn't they just ban you?
if the are such ego driven villains, why are you allowed to keep posting insults and accusing them of wrong doings?

I can understand when someone is not able to pay his monthly membership dues at ES and then proceeds to take it out on the mods. Hey, it's a struggle each month to get enough money. I'm thinking of ringing the bells during this holiday season and being an elf at Cherry Hill Mall.

I call the mods out with no prob when I think they are being unfair or high and mighty but none of them in this tread have done that and your being out of line. And me defending the mods is really not the norm. I respect them for what they do but I also have issues with how some of them do it so when I defend them rest assure your way out of line.

Yeh, they can be fun. I'm about ready to bump the old NNT thread soon. That has some riotous moments, too. While usually just letting a fair amount of ignorant hot air crap hurled our way slide by, I occasionally like to take some dude doing his little pookie dance head-on with a hefty dose of "well, let's go ahead and examine just what a dip**** you are" and let them roll with it.
When done correctly, and having accurately assessed the dip**** quotient as substantial, you can get some very entertaining reading for the membership. And all the while bringing reality a little closer into someone's life. It's just more service work. :D

And you should take offense. The amount of work you put into this site and some random guy comes along and tells everyone you're on Snyder's payroll. What a joke.
I think Bubba would probably appreciate a high five from folks... or at minimum a nice warm cup of stfu. Not insults. The amount of time and work he puts into this site is staggering, and this site would fold without him.

jesus...zoony was getting on you about your comments below that you linked to bubba by the way you worded it as though he were included even when you amended it to "some mods" later...
Bubba is a smart guy no doubt and I respect him and the others who work on this BB. But you have to keep in mind (and I am sorry if this offends the mods) this is a Redskins owned BB and these guys get perks for what they do from the team. My point being is that you dont bite the hand that feeds you. Take that for what you will.
And you were told flat out how incorrect your implication was that we (any mod) "don't bite the hand" or "poop" on the team because of any kind of perks you think even some of us get. That's a number of times you have violated rule 18, which we have been known to perma ban for after our patience wears thin enough. Your previous mod actions (a ban with an extension) were also connected to you being overly antagonistic in violating rules.
Its been said quite clearly what does and doesn't happen, not that you have either all the needed information or the needed sense (apparently) to make a good judgment on the matter. But you obviously want to keep talking about "taking on the mods" and then do it in an insulting and inaccurate fashion.
I almost temporarily canned you for one of your other posts here where you crow about calling out the mods, though you set it up as though you were "supporting" us and calling out Dan. You can say all kinds of **** about anything we do or post with no harm no foul, just as happens with any member to member interaction, but you can also run into trouble if you don't know what you're doing and how to do it.
So if you want to manifest some ass-backward "authority issue" that over-rides your reading comprehension and your judgment so repeatedly, and lead with your chin, then I will happliy deliver the KO and you can take your crippled analytical skills and resulting commentary elsewhere for a few months.
In closing, I sure hope this isn't going to become another "suicide" thread.

Also no one reads a good post during a game, there's no time for debate and there are sooo many threads It's impossible to tell if there is a similar one already.

Smart man. And your intelligence shows regularly. One refinement to your remarks I'd make: threads that are closed are pretty much the same ones that would get closed other times with maybe a few exceptions. 98% of the "new threads" closed should just be a thought posted in an exisiting conversation (usually there is more than one already fitting thread going), just as the rule reads. It's more that the spazz factor (especially on a bad loss) is through the roof and we get 10 times as many, 10 times faster as people just react glandularly (understandable but can have consequences) and don't think or even look at the front page enough before they "jump."

Welp. I can't start a new thread anyway and do not see a thread that is relevant so I thought I'd post it here. Simply put, after many years of hustling with myself, I have decided to start "a" transition by adding a color-full change in my signature. I know I will be called many names, may even get banned here but I gotta move on. I have had endless fun for many years hanging out here in the ES (even with the NNT privilege :D). I look at this transition as if I am a player and looking for a trade (or got cut). I have interviewed with many teams and worked out a great deal with the Vikes. I will be rooting for the skins every Sunday and be hating the Cowboys at all time and hope the skins make the playoff each year. I have been a long time Redskins fan; the only team I ever root for ever since I learned about football. But this is the end of the road for me. I think the Vikes have a great chemistry going on. I have had most fun watching the these guys then any other team. Football season is really short and I gotta have fun watching the game.
So Peace to ya'll.

Valid point. I didn't even know that there's a Random Thought Thread and its purpose is such. Yes I have been to Minnesota few times. Friggin Cold and I hate cold.
However, I love the game. Losing is OK but I would doubt that they would lose like the Skins. At least not in a while. Like I said, I'd always root for the skins;). I actually thought last night that they were gonna lose. But that was awesome game though.

How does Dan Snyder find time to own the team and rule the message boards with an iron fist? Stunning.

What's stunning is how often you're capable of ignoring guidelines amidst relatively few posts.
Rule 7 ignored:
http://extremeskins.com/showthread.php?t=290388
And today:
11. Please do not use the “Quote” feature to quote huge blocks of text or pictures.
If you would like to respond to the contents of a particular post, simply quote the sentence or idea that you're commenting upon, not necessarily the entire post. It wastes space on the database and unnecessarily extends and clutters threads.

How does Dan Snyder find time to own the team and rule the message boards with an iron fist? Stunning.
"Iron Fist" :hysterical:
You'd be long gone if it was. :)
Here's something else you may find stunning, and intended for all concerned. After actually being on the moderating side for four years, and knowing how 80% of the time we just ignore the clueless whining and squealing that's all too common when certain types of "adults" are actually given a "speeding ticket for speeding" on the interwebs, I'm considering just making profuse with immediates ban for such posts for awhile unless the "complaint" is relevant and supportable with valid evidence.
Someone else on staff used the phrase of "taking the board back from the <use your own term>" for the benefit of the majority of the posters here who "get it" and never have a problem following the rules or acting like an adult. As in what ES historically called "culling the herd" even before my time on ES.
This site is in no danger of losing popularity in membership numbers, and anyone really unhappy is reminded of the choices to post elsewhere, but ES became the success that it did because of the high standards that were set from the beginning and how the baord was run to meet those standards.
We're not going to willingly or easily give that up to make life more comfortable for those who choose to combine being a clueless pain with being a wiseass.
If you screw up on a rule and receive a mod action, accept it, or ask about it politely if you really feel you need a conversation about it (and be sure it's that important and you've already tried to figure it out on your own, minus any ego-driven huffing and puffing as a substitute for "thinking"), and then remembering to remain polite or at least quiet, move on.
The fact that I have to detail such simply matters to some "men" is dad.
Grow up or go away.

The most common ways to receive a No New Threads action is if your thread is or is duplicating a topic being actively discussed in existing threads.
My particular topic wasn't being 'actively' discussed in existing threads. However, in order to appease the mods I'll admit that I pulled an epic fail in not performing a search which reached the depths of these forums. I'm wrong, you're right. I'm on my knee's, yada yada yada.:rotflmao:

What's the point of this thread if it's not enforced? There should be no more "Campbell Sucks" threads. Starting one should be NNT and a three-day ban, no questions asked. Instead, I see mods posting in them saying, "Don't like it? Don't bump it!" Well, I can't bump it above this sticky stating that we should NOT have those threads, can I?

Well, you do seem to be demonstrating that reading and comprehension, as well as general awareness, are sometimes a struggle for you if that's all you got out of the post you quoted. And, in this great example of self-defeating effort, you're wrong in your protestation of basic innocence. You even acknowldged it in the actual post that got you nailed.
Apparently this has been posted before but a search turned up nothing for me. So you started the new thread, knowing it already existed, simply because (you claim) your search (competency highly suspect) didn't turn it up.
Another member showed you the link to the original thread in post #11 minutes after you started your thread, and the mod that gave you the NNT found it immediately, too, after getting the reported post.
"Actively" is not the only criteria in play as the post you quoted makes clear, but even so, your attitude is the opposite of what's requested in the matter (or any matter if you're looking for most effective dealings with staff).
Here's a clue. If you know the exact topic already exists, don't duplicate it while announcing you know it's there but "couldn't find it."
There are other things you can do in such a situation besides making a dupe thread on such a specific topic, if you have a pressing need to contribute in such a situation, and you should explore those alternatives. ;)
But regarding my red highlighting, nope, it will serve no good purpose on your end to clog PM or e-mail with your response. As of now, it would likely just result in your third ban.
I entered it in your user notes, so you're probably set an NNT for a long time given your choices to date.
And your 2000 + posts, including actual content, are at odds with your proposition that "I'm interested in Redskins news not forum drama, which is why I've never delved into reading as much" and renders it a bit disingenuous. We do have a separate news forum, if you prefer, where you can read all about the 'skins without posting. So in your case, ignorance is an even poorer excuse than in most. :)

Instead, I see mods posting in them saying, "Don't like it? Don't bump it!" Well, I can't bump it above this sticky stating that we should NOT have those threads, can I?
Yes, I'm pissy because I've been home sick for three days and really used to enjoy this board. Now it's just the Campbell hatred fanclub.
New Cliche. You need to shut up now about board management. You've had 8 mod actions form 5 different mods and the requests to perma ban you have been numerous.
But you're not in danger of that as far as I know---and you do love the board. It seems you're just relatively clueless on much of our rules (most of your reported posts also support that contention) and real forum management yet sound off about it regularly.
I'm not even going to bother to detail why your comment about the "pro-JC" or "anti-JC" thread proliferation can not be dealt with in any way much better than we do and have done with any similar dynamic (like HC/Snyder/Porits, ****ing LaVar after two years and remember the Ramsey and then Brunell days? :D) as is the case on any such board.
So it's official: no more amateur modding or kibitizing from you for awhile. :)

Well, thanks for the consideration and the lambasting for making a minute mistake for the first time in years.
The link to the video I provided mentioned something about Extremeskins. A search turned up nothing for me. Perhaps I should have searched more extensively.
your attitude I'm not entirely sure what you mean by this either. Of course, I don't look for the worst in people.

Dude, you were not "lambasted" in my book, you were held accountable for your own words and in a similar manner as presented in your response. And, continuing our different perceptions of reality, as I referenced in my post, this was not "a minute mistake for the first time if years." It was a gratutious error on your part, and it wasn't your first time. That said, and your misplaced implication that I might look for the worst in people aside, I don't view you as a regular rule breaker at all---maybe more of as a typically argumentative and sometimes oppositional message board poster. :)
My suggestion: quit while you're only so far behind, and figure out how to get off of NNT, and go talk football (or go to the tailgate and take your chances posting on anything :D).

Back in the 70's the Giants ownership was in such bad shape the fans were burning game tickets at the gate.Pete Rosell(sp) was so mad he made the Giants hire George Young......a GM and he turned things around.
My question to you and other die hard Skins fans who never miss a game.........when is enough ,enough?

My first suggestion would refrain from trying on any gameday in particular if you don't know for sure. This is a very large and active board and this is it's businest day each week. Much easier to "go wrong."
It shouldn't be hard for you to figure out what happned to your last thread if you put any effort into it. In the OP of this thread, and of the "rant" thread, you would find several criteria yours didn't meet, though during the week it may easily been given the benefit of the doubt if there hadn't been several active 'Sherm" threads, then. One quick tip---it pays a lot to really develop your OP beyond a casual sentence or two for most topics.
As it was, the kindness showed you was that you didn't get an NNT because it wasn't a gratuitiously <fill in the blank> effort.
It sounds like you're having repeated problems from what you wrote here--if so, knowing what I know, I'd say maybe you're better off just posting your thoughts as comments in existing threads, just as the first post in your last thread could have/should have been today.
Everyone can consider this a form letter. :D

As far as I know, you represent yourself accurately enough. You have no mod actions, and you were not given an NNT today. :)
Note that, and note exactly what my suggestions/comments were, and maybe apply it to gameday mostly. I'd say don't just totally "give up." It's not like suffering has been involved. Having a thread closed, and no other actions, is not that big a deal. :)

It really wasn't one of those two types. It was questioning what our new pair of eyes saw today. Some of the responses were funny and I think humor is helpful right now.
I agree with your concluding line. I tried to explain to my grandchildren the Redskins were once a good team. They find that hard to believe and compare them with the infestation of stink bugs in their home right now.

I couldn't agree more with this statement. It is my opinion, that this team hasn't been the same since J.K.C. I personally don't like the Idea of trying to institute the West Coast Offense into this team. Seems to me it's been tried before and it didn't work then either. It's like trying to put a 44 cal. bullet, into a 38 special, it just doesn't fit. As for the ownership of the team. I feel that the present owner of the Redskins is like a little rich kid in the toy store with Daddy's credit card. Whatever attracts his attention, he's gotta have, even if he doesn't know a thing about what he's buying. If the guy had some integrity, he'd sell the team to someone who cares about the organization, the fans, and the reputation that comes with the territory. I hope for all Redskin fans that this fool has an epiphany real soon......

It's all about common sense ... which many of us don't have. It's simple - use your brain and think wisely. Is your post going to press buttons, if so, then it might be ok. Is your post downright offensive, if so, then you can probably bet on some form of mod action. Are you cursing and breaking rules on a regular basis, you can probably count on being banned.
With a forum as large as this, you need to think wisely before you post. Especially on game days. Chances are that there's at least a few other members who are thinking the same thing and who have posted something incredibly similar to your thoughts. Warnings have been given multiple times to not spew typed vomit onto the boards on game days - yet folks get so bent out of shape and insist on posting, become bitter when threads are moved or merged and go on the attack against mods.
It's a very simple folks ... try to use the brain that's in your head ... use common sense if you have any ... if you see something similar to what you're wanting to post, just post in that thread along with all of the other garbage. There's no need to single yourself out and create another garbage thread when there are already so many of them.

After a while I gave up trying to use the search bar function and went to sift through the thread titles but didn't see it(Either I missed it or the titles were mislabeled). I ended up posting the article and within a couple of hours(estimating) I got an NNT.

The key to the search function is simple:
Don't put a bunch of words in it and expect results. It overloads it and you get the white page.
Simply use one or maybe two keywords and see if anything comes back.

Our own search works better that it gets credit for, but it does take some learning to use effectively, so the google is much easier. The rules call for a careful visual scan of the first two pages of the forum before starting a new thread (along with the other requirements for properly starting new threads).
True, it is helpful if you're a regular reader and somewhat attentive to the board every few days because then you (should) have a sense of what conversations are already taking place (usually in more than one variation on the theme).

wouldnt this board be at least half as cluttered without the two most common posts:
1: Im sorry if this is no good/a repost/been covered/not to your liking/not allowed/unpopular/ etc etc etc
2: This thread should be locked/this is somewhere else/i dont like this/too low a post count to allow/do not know the guy etc etc
I mean really. Every thread starts with an appoligy and 90 per cent of the threads have a linch mob calling for it's closing. (that is unless the post count is over 2000, then apparently you may post at will) Why have an open forum if you only want information from the same 10 guys?

In other words, you mean if people wouldn't do what you just did and state a couple obvious things everybody knows and doesn't really need to post in a thread but does because they have a "need to share" and also add a couple of pointless and baseless brain farts about things that are real only in their head? In a word, yes.
Although I agree the two types of posts you mention appear way more often than ideal, that is more a kind of a personal taste thing (bothered by it/not bothered) and style of expression (apologizing for your OP or it's merits) more than a board management matter.
We can and will make the decisions on whether the thread itself has merit by the rules.
But monitoring and deleting each post based on every whim of judgment of "quality" would of course be impossible and unwanted. Our rules give us pretty wide latitude. But if we just eliminated posts just because we thought they were "stupid", I'd have elminated yours. :evilg:
We let stupid live freely here (and it can't really be stopped anyway), as long as it's within the rules.
But we encourage all ES members to challenge all that's posted stupidly, staying within the rules, and hopefully with more intelligence in play than in that of their target.
And people can and do get a brief ban for posting those "in before the close" type posts.
But given the fact that human nature and message board realities are unlikely to be magically changed anytime soon, stupid posts will be as regular as anything else.
It is also fair for people to give an opinion on a thread's merit. Nothing wrong with that--it's part of all message board interactions. People should try to benefit from peer feedback. :D
It helps if the feedback has some thought behind it, even if it's a slam.
But having and enforcing our rules does help us do as much as possible and sure beats the alternative. Perfection still awaits. :)
As for your flatulence about post number count or just wanting info from the same 10 guys, since you're critiquing others, that's hardly the first time I've see you post something that seems pretty clueless. Noting the mod actions on your account, you have also seemed to have some of your own trouble with the rules on sigs and new threads, so I'm sure you have some ability to relate to the various challenges of postng on ES. ;)
And while it's exceptionally rare for me to mention grammar or spelling, I want to make a suggestion--learn to spell basic words like "apology" and "lynch" if you're going to be critical of others. :)

He was an inspiration for me and I dedicated much of my efforts to his early work in the field. The man may be gone, but his legend and his impact will live on forever.
Because, in the end...
Maybe its like Skinz128777 says. A fella ain't got a soul of his own, but only a piece of a big soul, the one big soul out there that belongs to everybody. And then it don't matter. Then I'll be all around in the dark. I'll be everywhere…Wherever there's a fight so hungry people can eat, I'll be there. Wherever there's a cop beating up a guy, I'll be there. I'll be in the way guys yell when they're mad...and I'll be in the way kids laugh when they're hungry and they know supper's ready…And when our people eat the stuff they raise, and live in the houses they build, I'll be there too.

Some of us made that comment (about this tread) amongst ourselves some time ago. What's funny is how this was just a "lets all help clean-it-up board-wise" and "protect yourself by following the rules" heads up thread for the benefit of everyone that (as usual on the interwebz)attracted a small gaggle of typically clueless pontificators and boneheaded blackbelts in hari-kari. The Lemming is strong in many who ride these tubes. But they, too, only help in the end, even if just by throwing their furry little bodies over the edge of ES. :D

I think it started and ended with a "D" and rhymed with "sick ted" but I might be wrong.
Perhaps it was a suggestion to go perform carnal actions with one's self or one's close relations?

Preemptive game bump. :)

yeh...here's one...don't start a thread and type something like "mods, if this is ****ed up in some way, please delete" in the op like that somehow makes everything ok or is even necessary...first it's "close" not "delete" just to get that straight...next, we will close threads when we call it, independent on whether someone types that in it or not...and finally, it in no way will automatically safegaurd you from an NNT or anything else...just fwiw :)
