View Full Version : My 2010 Lineup

I'm sick of watching the same players underperform every year. I'm tired of looking forward to training camp more than the regular season because its the only time you'll see any fresh, determined faces on the field. I want this team to get a full blown enema in the offseason and work from the bottom up. Here are some of the only guys I think we should keep (i realize this won't happen because of contracts, but this is just a wishlist on my part):
QB:
Keep Colt Brennan and have him compete with a draft pick for the starting role. He didn't look as good as last year's preseason, but with more time to play and a fresh start with a new coach i can see him improving. He is an extremely accurate passer and more importantly he has leadership qualities and plays with emotion and conviction. Is he the second coming of Jesus? No, but I can handle a few interceptions as a trade off for on field fire. Possibly keep Collins as a back up or 3rd string depending on who we can get in the draft after adressing the O line.
RB
Portis, Betts and Cartwright all need to go. I want us using Mason, Alridge, and Sellers (correctly though! short yard runs, not like a friggen wide reciever). I wouldn't be opposed to drafting a running back either.
WR
Keep Kelly, Mitchell and Moss. Everyone else can go. Including you Devin Thomas.
TE
Keep Cooley and possibly Davis (havent seen enough of him to decide whether he has more upside). Yoder can leave.
OL
Keep Stephon Heyer, Chad Reinhart, Derrick Dockery, Lorenzo Alexander. and possibly Mike Williams depending on his performance in preseason.
DL
Orakpo, Carter, Haynesworth (yes, i do think Haynesworth should stay. While I think he's overpaid thats not his fault, I do still think he can be the anchor to our D line if we offer him a less hopeless situation to work with.)
LB
Besides Fletcher I couldn't really care less. And yes I did put Orakpo in the other category on purpose. (edit: I forgot ROCKY!!)
CB
Keep Kevin Barnes, and maybe keep Carlos (i think hes playing pissed off and unfocused because of Hall, but do believe he has upside). Hall can leave or return punts for us. Not sure about Smoot right now. He's got the heart and soul but not sure if its enough at this point.
Safety
Chris Horton and Reed Doughty. I'm sick of waiting for Landry to live up to his potential. If you can't tackle at this point in your career, you don't belong on this roster. Hopefully we can find a trade for him.
Our draft should focus on OL, QB and RB. In that order.
I realize this is extreme. Its supposed to be. My point is I would rather see a young team that hasn't proven anything (and KNOWS they haven't proven anything) struggle and grow together than watching this current bunch of redskins.
Personally, I know that as a fan I can tolerate a poor game or season if I believe there is a reason for it. I think if we developed our "core" for next year around these guys (who i picked mostly for their work ethic and their ability to back up their talk on the field), it will at least be a step in the right direction. I wouldn't doubt that there would be some tough weeks and some tough losses, but in all honestly I can't see the team I assembled looking any worse than our current team has looked over the last two weeks.
I invite you all to share any additions or subtractions.
Hail to the Redskins.

Thats true. How old is he though? I'm also not sure about Chris Wilson. He seems like a poor man's Orakpo in this scheme but i havent heard much about him one way or another since training camp.

Never going to happen, but...
QB - Jason Campbell (yup)
RB - Jahvid Best
FB - Anyone but Sellers; FBs just do NOT whine about contracts.
WR - Brandon Marshall (he's a FA and he has hella talent; may ask too much $$, though), Santana Moss, Malcolm Kelly. Braylon Edwards is out there, too, but he may have been a one year wonder.
OL - Samuels, Rinehart, Dockery, a FA and a Rookie
DL - Haynesworth, Orakpo, Carter, FA/Rookie
LB - Fletcher, McIntosh, FA/Rookie
CB - Hall, Rogers (NO SMOOT!)
S - Horton, Doughty

How is brennan going to survive behind that line?? And where are mason and aldridge going to run?
And we're giving up on McIntosh and Orakpo? And who's playing FS?
Even vinny thinks this is a dumb plan

True i forgot about him. And crazily enough (maybe, depending on who you are). I'd keep Suisham. I really think he struggled last year because of the Front office giving him 3 different holders. But he's no sure thing. The first time a hungry young no name outperforms him he's gone. Which is a philosophy that I think should be applied to the rest of the team as well. Performance based!! What an awesome idea!

Of all the things Campbell's struggled wth this season, time in the backfield hasn't been one of them. He's been sacked how many times in 3 games?
Whos giving up on Orakpo? I listed him along the D line where he belongs.
And I think both Mason and Alridge have better chances of hitting holes and kicking into second gear for big plays than Portis does at this point.

Keep in mind that with no salary cap next year, there will be no ramifications for terminating contracts. Every player, no matter the cap hit, could be disposable.
I like your list, with a few exceptions...
I like JC, I really do. But I think it's probably time for a change in DC. I'd love to snag Bradford or Snead with our first pick. The possibility of that happening is becoming more and more likely.
The only RB I'd keep is Sellers. We need two new faces at the position. Alridge and Mason can come to camp but cannot be our #1 options going into August. I'd love to see us use our 2nd or 4th round pick on a back.
I'd keep Devin Thomas to go along with Kelly, Moss and Marko.
I'd keep Rabach and Samuels too. We can't completely re-do the line in one offseason. Take the higest rated tackle available in the second round to replace Heyor and move Stephon to the bench as depth.
Cut Andre Carter. We have Orakpo. Let Jarmon play more - he flashed a few times against the Lions.
Love ya Griff, but ya gotta go. Monty, Kedric and Big Al are a nice rotation.
Rocky needs to stay. He's been our best defensive player all year. I think Fletch deserves to play out his contract.
I'd keep our entire secondary outside of Smoot. I actually think the group would excel if we had a D-coordinator that would be willing to get pressure on the QB.

I excluded Thomas mostly because of his attitude. He doesn't seem to want to work hard on the things that dont come naturally easy to him. As far as Smoot goes, like I said heart is in the right place but think hes getting too old physically. However he does get his team fired up and I don't exactly see the FO having to break the bank to keep him around for veteran leadership. And yeah, these are players to bring back next season, not handed starting roles.

Of all the things Campbell's struggled wth this season, time in the backfield hasn't been one of them. He's been sacked how many times in 3 games? .
Sacks don't tell the whole story. Campbell is exceptional at moving within the pocket, and he has to do it on almost every play. As soon as he completes his drop there is almost always two defenders on the same plane as him. He has to sidestep or step up before throwing a large majority of the time.

I dunno man. Whether he's scrambling or not the line is giving him (or any qb) more than enough time to make passes. I think that'll get worse as the season goes on but that was why I had OL as first offseason priority.

The main factor that not many people mentioned is that we are going into a possible uncapped year. Snyder's pockets are bottomless as evidence of Haynesworth contract. Snyder won't mind to pay for a handful of big name free agents, but the problem with this is that Cerrato has only had two great free agents selections and one of them is still unproven other than his stats with the Titans. Fletcher is the other (Fletcher is the one that makes the skins defense from being a complete disaster). I feel that everyone is right above we need a total revamp of the entire roster up to the front office. I don't know about this colt brennan crap. I mean he didn't even win out the back up job this year over 38 year old Collins. Come on people know what you are talking about pleasseee.

I would do the following:
1. New old school tough ass coach, old school tough ass defensive coordinator, old school tough ass offensive coordinator.
2.
QB- Campbell's contract is up. He's out of D.C. keep Collins if he wants to stay as the #2, keep Colt Brennan.
RB- Release Clinton Portis (mileage), Ladell Betts (age & uselessness), and yes...Rock Cartwright (uselessness) :( keep Marcus Mason and Anthony Alridge.
FB- Release Mike Sellers (useless)
WR- Release Santana Moss (attitude/not #1/talent to develop behind him) and Antwaan Randle-El (100% useless). Keep Thomas, Kelley, and Mitchell.
TE- Keep Cooley, Davis, and Yoder
OL- Keep Samuels, Dockery, Rinehart, and Heyer. Release Rabach (terrible).
DE- Move Orakpo to DE, keep Jarmon, release Carter (useless), release Daniels (useless), release Wynn(useless), keep Wilson.
DT-Keep Haynesworth, release Griffin (injury prone/overrated), keep Golston, release Montgomery(lack of ability/motivation)
OLB- Keep McIntosh
MLB- Keep Blades, keep Fletcher
CB- Keep Rogers, keep Hall, keep Tyron, keep Barnes, release Smoot (lack of talent/decline in physical skills- can't tackle).
FS- Keep Landry, keep Moore
SS- Keep Horton, keep Doughty
K- Open competition between Suisham and anyone else.
P- Keep Smith
---------------------------------
We have our rounds 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 7 next year correct? If not please tell me. We need to trade our 1st rounder for multiple 2nd rounders or a 2nd, 3rd, 4th, etc.
Our draft priorities are as follow:
1. DT
2. OLB
3. C
4. RB
5. QB
6. FB
7. T
We need young, strong D-Linemen. We need an outside linebacker...a true one not Orakpo- he's a great DE not a great OLB. We need a new center because Casey Rabach is flat out terrible. Our QB situation will be bad but we can't just go after something with a top pick when we have so many holes to plug. Brennan can start. I don't think he will be good but we just need someone in there for a season. Next year is the rebuilding year and I wouldn't expect many wins. We draft a franchise QB in 2 years.
At RB Clinton Portis is getting up there, I think it's time to replace him and clean house. Mason is alright but he isn't a #1 back. Alridge is very interesting as our version of Sproles. I think that finding a running back in rounds 3-4 that has power, and is over 220 pounds should be easy. We just need somebody out there to hand it off to a LOT.
I would send the players to Carlisle again for training camp, make them stay in dorm rooms, and deny them laptops, dvd players, videogames, etc. The only thing they would be doing at nights or after practice is resting, eating, and playing some games together/talking. It's called team bonding. Schottenheimer knew it was important and left that practice facility behind. We need to do it again. Those guys need to be isolated together to really become a team, currently after practice the veterans go home or go out on the town. That is unacceptable.
I would make the team captains the emotional leaders of the team. Not players like Jason Campbell. The players that will yell, give their co-workers ****, get on people's asses, and pump people up are the ones you want in charge.
I have a lot more than that. I wish I could be the owner so I could get a GM who would do this for me.

Then can em all. Then start by re-signing the players that want to play. Then move on and build a team. This team reminds me of the old Johnny Cash song One Piece At A Time. Yeah he got a car, but what did it look like??
Probobly not fiesable, but that would be the time to start over. Which is what I think needs to happen.

QB – Jason Campbell OR a top 10 draft pick (but if we are not in the top 10, wait.)
RB – Ladell Betts, draft pick, Marcus Mason
FB - Sellers
WR – Kelley, Thomas, Marko, a few young cheap FAs (would not draft anyone at WR)
TE – Cooley, young cheap FA
OL - Samuels, Rinehart, Dockery, Heyer, at min 2-3 draft picks and then FAs to fill.
DL - Haynesworth, Orakpo, Jarmon, Golston, Alexander, a few cheap FAs
LB - Fletcher, McIntosh, Blades, draft pick
CB - Rogers, draft pick, Tryon, cheap FA
S - Horton, Landry (not sure what to do with Landry...)

LOL LADELL BETTS! When will you people realize that he is not a starter, and NEVER WILL BE A STARTER!
Getting rid of moss is a brilliant idea also, and throwing away fred davis..MAN YOU SHOULD BE OUR TEAM STRATEGIST!
Not only that weres Hall and Barnes? Both got contracts this year, and we payed some money for them...be another waste.
Here's my idea (In depth order):
QB- Draft Pick, TC, CB5
RB- Portis, Draft Pick, AA, LB
FB- Sellers
WR- Kelly, Moss, Thomas/Randel El, Mitchell
TE- Cooler, and Davis
OL- Samuels, Draft Pick, Thomas, Dockery, Heyer, Rinehart, FAs
DL- Haynesworth, Orakpo, Golston, Lorenzo, and Griff(if he doesn't retire)/FA
LB- Fletch, McIntosh, Blades
CB- Rodgers, Hall, Barnes, Smoot
S- Horton, Landry
COACHING STAFF:
Total Revamp. Fire Zorn, bring in someone with some experience. Fire Blache, he's to soft. Possibly let sherman call the plays for the rest of this year, if he can do better than zorn then keep him, if not fire his ass.
PS. the whole reason to keep portis in my mind is to school the younger backs in players.

Guys who'll be gone next year: Zorn, Blache Daniels, Griffin, Wynn, Smoot, Thomas, Portis, Collins
Portis just doesn't seem to have it this year. Right now I think the people who say he's done may be right
Guys who may be gone next year: Campbell, Rogers, Samuels, Moss, Betts, Rabach, Landry
I'm sure some people say Campbell will definately be gone or hope he will be. But we should have control of him next year and with some of the QB's in the league someone should want him. I mean you have old guys like Favre, Warner, Kerry Collins and more I just can't think of right now. There's guys like Tavarus Jackson and Sage Rosenfels and Shaun Hill competing for starting spots. Someone will want him. Hit him with a first round tender then negotiate a price or bring him in to compete with whoever we bring in. A guy with a strong arm who doesn't throw INTs should be targeted.
Samuels will probably be back, but it's early. If the injury bug hits him he could retire or be cut.
Betts is a backup so who's to say.
We'll also give Rogers a first round tender so if someone offers enough we'll let him go. But hopefully he'll stay.
Moss should be worth soemthing in a trade so if we're tearing down let him go.
It may sound strange to suggest Landry but if we have defensive philosophy like this years we're not making full use of his talents. Get something and put someone who's got less talent. THe current D basically doesn't allow him much use of his talents.
I really can't say much about the backups who don't get on the field much. Same for the lower tier coaches

So does our current one. But MINE has hungry, cheap players trying to make names for themselves

How is brennan going to survive behind that line??
has quicker feet than Jason and a quicker release.
Basically, he's a better football player.
