View Full Version : An open letter to Mr. Snyder

Dear Mr. Snyder,

As a life-long Redskins fan, I have two words for you - thank you. That's right, I said thank you. On behalf of my blood pressure, vocal chords, my petrified dogs, a forgiving wife, angry neighbors, and bruised ego I say thank you. You see, as a life-long fan I have watched you take a proud, historical, wonderful thing of beauty that I grew up with, to the bastian of ineptitude that disgraces 1600 FedEx Way. I can remember watching games as a young boy sitting on my grandfathers knee as we cheered for Riggo and the boys to run all over the NFC East and perpetually be contending for the Lombardi trophy. With what you have managed to do to this team, young boys who could have had similar memories will now remember these years with about as much comfort as if their grandfather had been molesting them. Thank you. You see, with this past Sunday and the debacle in Detroit, I have officially admitted defeat. I can relinquish all hopes and dreams for this organization, and I can finally find peace. I came to this realization today when I went to work. I am a high school teacher, a demeaning job in and of itself, but for the past few years you have made my Monday's excruciating. Every year I make the mistake of telling my kids that I am a Redskins fan, because I am an idiotic hopeful optimist when it comes to my team. "I just know that THIS year will be THE year" I tell myself when I consider not letting them in on the joke that is my fanhood, so I announce proudly with swollen chest, "I AM A REDSKINS FAN!" I am met with snickers and outright ridicule usually saved for the biggest losers in school, hell even the chess team picks on me! Thank you. Today, as I shuffled into school I could only imagine what "treasures" my colleagues had in store for me. Before I could even get twenty feet in, there was one of my students. This pimply faced, four eyed, gawky little nerd, laughed and said, "Wow, 19 game losing streak means nothing to the Redskins huh?" Now, I'm not sure this child has even watched a football game or could even describe what a football looks like, but here he was insulting all that I (used) to hold dear. I cannot recall exactly what words fell out of my mouth, but I do know that I finished with, "well at least I have seen a pair of boobs in real life!" I would be worried about the prospects of losing my job in this economy, but I have a valid excuse - for I AM A REDSKINS FAN! Thank You. No longer will my dogs cower in the corner as I yell on Sunday. Heck, maybe my neighbors will actually look me in the face when they see me because I won't be lacing together profanity-laden sequences that could make the Diceman blush. I am raising the white flag, you have beaten me worse than one of Vick's dogs. I will muddle through the rest of this season, and the seasons that will follow with all of the fervor of a coma patient. No longer will my angst and gut wrenching passion be directed toward this franchise, I could not care less. Congratulations, Mr Snyder, you have made me the equivalent of a Browns fan. Thank you.

Blah, blah, blah. Everything is snyder's fault. It's snyder's fault Campbell cant completed a pass over 15 yards. It's Snyders fault Zorn calls an off-tackle run on 3rd and 15, and can't score in the red zone. It's Snyders fault blache plays so soft that teams can sit back and pick us apart, despite all our defensive talent. If only Snyder had been able to punch it in on 4th and 1 yesterday, this wouldn't be an issue. If Snyder was a better playcaller, we'd score more points, also. If only Daniel could read a defense a tad quicker, and make more plays on offense, the skins would be better. Damn you Snyder. Damn you.

How about this logic: the people running the offense and defense are inept, more so on offense. Snyder made a bold move in signing a well established QB guy in Zorn. So far, it's backfired. Some coaches have it, and some don't. We seemingly missed this time around. I wonder how many of you who have a blind vendetta against snyder will be singing his praises once he lands Bill cowher, Shanahan, Dungy, or any one of the great football minds that will be available in the offseason.

Since this is about the 16th "open letter" to Snyder (and Viiny etc has had them too) saying the same thing, and should be just a post in any "**** this whole deal" themed thread that is already going, we will have el closo, el NNT-O, but (feeling merciful and understanding) no ban-o.

Dear Mr. Snyder:

I'm 40. I grew up in Montgomery County. I love the Redskins for all the same reasons you do. We grew up at the same time, watched the same games on Sundays. I think (unlike many) that you have the capacity to be a great owner. You don't hesitate to spend on talent, which, I feel, is the biggest positive thing an owner can do.

Now, having said that, you are actually at a point now you could lose your fanbase. One of the best, biggest, most loyal in sports. I know you believe in Mr. Cerrato. It doesn't matter anymore, he has to be let go.

A demonstration is needed at this point that you will take the one big step to make this team better. Please hire a GM, allow him to hire the coach, allow him to pick the players.

I don't care if I get NNT'ed for this. You need to hear it (again). At this point, there's no other card to play to sustain fan loyalty.

May I suggest Morocco Brown? He's already in house, and he's sharp and seems to get it - a good hire by you.

Regardless, please make this change. The fanbase is teetering.

Regards,
Zanggg

Well since we are writing to Dan.

Dear Dan,

If you continue to insist to own a NFL team I suggest the following.

1. Since Ed Roskie is looking for teams to put into the stadium he wants to build in L.A., I suggest you immediately relocate the franchise to L.A.

2. As a condition to allow the move, The NFL does 2 things:

a. Leaves the names and colors in D.C.
b. Relocates the Jacksonville Jaguars to D.C. Puts the records of the Jags into the history books as the Jags are reborn as the new Washington Redskins.

Sincerely,

Saif

What a novel idea! Someone writing an open letter to Snyder. You're funny. Ha ha ha! Oh gosh that's funny! That's really funny! Do you write your own material? Do you? Because that is so fresh. You know, I've, I've never heard anyone write that letter before. Hmm. You're the first. God what a clever, smart man you must be, to come up with a letter like that all by yourself. That's so fresh too. Any, any Titanic jokes you want to throw at me too as long as we're hitting these phenomena at the height of their popularity. God you're so funny!

If nothing else, that's an angle I haven't thought of. Interesting concept. Thinking back about the Browns situation, the only thing they really lost in their death / rebirth was Ozzie Newsome. Players come and go. And since we don't have an Ozzie Newsome type figure here, there is much less to loose.

He just proved you wrong just by making the same mistakes everytime a big free agent (bust) is on the market, SBs are not for sale. Last but not least, throwing money out of the windows is so easy and negative, look at the state of this franchise. Defining a long term strategy to success, hiring talented people and keeping them instead of showing them the door, learning, these are the goals (among others) an owner must fulfill.

Dear Dan,

By now I guess you're totally confused about what the GM's, I mean, fans, want you to do. So, I'll remind you.

Win. That's all anybody really wants, and most don't care how. Just do it.

I realize the message is usually mixed, and most times, mindlessly knee-jerk in nature, but hey, at least we care.

We complain that you run the joint like a fantasy football team, then offer solutions that always work in Madden, a fantasy football game.

We say, "We need a real GM", but I promise you, whoever this supposed "real" guy might be, if he doesn't win right away, we'll say, "He's not a 'real' GM." Got it?;)

Now, you have made it harder on Vinny and the scouts, to sign or draft, guys that the coaches want for their systems, because of the frequent changes in coaches, and their systems. I know the circumstances dictated some of the moves, but at the end of the day, it's been the problem.

So, the decision was made to switch to the so-called "West Coast" offense. You hired a young, unproven coach to start, and build the system. While the results have been disappointing thus far, you must stick with the decision for the rest of this season, and most likely, next. Any "real" GM, would be given at least 3 seasons to show that his choices of philosophy, coaches, and player acquisitions had a chance to succeed. We have not had the same guy/group, selecting personnel for the same coaching staff, operating the same system, since you bought the team. Now is the time to change that.

So, do what you need to do, to try and give the current philosophy-coach-personnel dept every chance to succeed. Consult with the play caller. Consult with the bingo caller. Hell, consult a hog caller. If the team wins, no one will care. But give it the time to succeed, or fail, on it's own merits.

I know the GM's, I mean, fans, continue to lump all of the last ten years together. While understandable, it's not really fair. The current philosophy-coach-personnel dept configuration is only 5 games into it second season. Blowing it up now, will only feed the perception most have of you. And even if you hire a "real" GM, if things are the same after game 5 of his second season, we'll try to run him out of town too.

Most will say they wouldn't, but they're only lying to themselves.

Sincerely,
Ax

Ok guys, lets actually do something and take advantage of one thing we do have the ability to do, use our voices at the game.

http://twitter.com/snydermustgo

Just made it. We can sign up tons of people that will be at the game. You can have tweets sent to your cell. Lets say we have 2,000 people all at the game following. At a certain time we can send out a chant to start "snyder sucks" or "sell the team" etc.

It may seem silly, but it's def. worth a shot!!

Dear Dan,

Its starting to get as bad as the Spurrier years... You pulled Job Gibbs out of your hat last time... What hidden card do you have now?

Bill Parcell has an out from his contract due to change in ownership down in Miami... Do what you can to get him here and give him full control of the team... Entice him with a piece of the team ownership... Make him commited to running the organization long term... You are a business man and you know only way to continue making your money is to put out a good quality product year in and year out... This is another tipping point for the team...

Don't disappoint us!!!
