edit: copy past from a post i made yesterday in a different thread:

That being said, I think its a bit rash to be behaving the way our fanbase is. The media i'll accept, because they need news to sell, and nothing sells like negative 'x franchise has hit the fan'. But lets be compeltely realistic here.
the team is 1-2.

They could become 14-2, or 1-15, or anywhere in between. Thats the reality of the situation. There's a reason they play the game, and don't just compare numbers on paper, to decide a winner. The cliche of 'any given sunday' is a cliche because its true - as lame as it is to use it.

Yes, we have 1 terrible loss, 1 terrible win, and 1 loss that should have been a win but we made too many mistakes to an oponent thats too good (giants).

Its unrealistic to expect them to make the playoffs based on tehir performance over the first 3 weeks. But if they start playing different... if the attitude changes... if momentum changes... anything is possible.

I'm a homer, I realise that, but this mentality that we're already doomed is getting a little ridiculous. People are preparing to wear bags over their head... To boo the team before they even play a snap (i'ma ll for booing a bad performance, but not when the team is introduced at the start of the game)...

It could honestly take 1 good drive to get everyone in rhythem for the rest of the season, 1 good game, hell, one good play. (I was hoping the moss TD last week would be teh spark, but it wasn't).

anyway, my .02, and didn't want to make a new thread.

To be fair the Steelers won the SB last year and the Titans owned the best record on football last year.

Does Fedex let you bring signs into the game?

If so, I am flying up from Florida, specifically for the purpose of bringing two signs.

One will say "Fire Vinny."

The optimist in me says there is still a chance the Redskins could be 4-2 heading in to week 7 against the Eagles. The team could band together in an us-against-the-world alliance in response to the firestorm of criticism. They could play with a fierce passion as if stung and awakened by a collective slap in the face.

Tampa, at Carolina, and Kansas City. There's still time to turn things around. The optimist in me says it could happen. Realistically, I'll believe it when I see it.

Per stadium guide (http://www.redskins.com/gen/articles/Stadium_Guide_1621.jsp):

Banners

Banners are permitted at FedExField; however, guests may not display banners that advertise or mention products or services. Banners may not cover existing FedExField equipment or signage. Signs may not be made with metal or wood. Management reserves the right to remove any sign, including those deemed to be obscene, inappropriate or which obstructs the view of other guests. For the safety of all guests, banner poles are not permitted.

[me again]

Something I noticed at the home opener: a surprisingly large number of unoccupied (albeit, of course, paid-for) seats...in a way that may speak louder than paper bag heads.

I'm OK with this type of thing. I think paper bags is going a little too far. Though permanently mediocre, we're not a team that turns in 3- or 4-win seasons year in and year out. Let's have some perspective.

This team was 10-6 in 2005.
This team was 9-7 in 2007.
This team was 8-8 in 2008.

They aren't "good", but they are far from paper bag bad.

so what you need to do McD5 is make a "i love ladel betts!" poster, but make the words removable for your real sign underneath, which is simple "FIRE VINNY NOW".

No.

Never has been our style, hopefully never will be.

But everyone has a breaking point.

And nigh on two decades of almost constant mediocrity, manifested in a pitiful display against the Rams, finally brought out, for us at the stadium anyway, some serious displeasure.

Go to the Buccs game supporting them as normal, but if they put on another display of total ineptitude that disgraces the jerseys on their backs, let them know it with the boos etc. I would say stay away totally, and hit the organization where it hurts most, in the pocket. But realistically that's never gona' happen.

Not normally an advocate for booing en mass etc, but they need telling that they really are that bad and were sick to the back teeth of paying top dollar for the privilege.

With all due respect, you are COMPLETELY missing the point here.

First off, I do not want to see our fans wearing bags on their heads.

That said, this outrage is NOT about 1-2 THIS YEAR. It's about a DECADE (and more) of mediocrity and futility and wasted talent, potential, etc., etc., etc. Over and over and over again.

Fans with some smarts have finally woken up and are seeing the pattern repeating itself ONCE AGAIN. That's why there's such an outrage. Not because the team is 1-2 in 2009!! Come on!! It goes so much deeper than that. Comparing our 1-2 to the Titans 0-3 or the Steelers 1-2 could not be further off the mark.

I would trade places with the Titans or the Steelers RIGHT NOW, I guarantee you that.

The outrage is because this team is being and has been run like an absolute joke for the much better part of the last 10 years. More and more fans are no longer being blinded by the "we're just ONE STEP AWAY" crap. The product we have on the field right now is an absolute disgrace to the Redskins legacy. THOSE are the guys that should be wearing the bags on their heads, not the fans. Zorn should call the next game with a friggin' bag on his head.

The fans shouldn't humiliate themselves that way. They should either bring signs to the game or just not show up at all if they want to voice their opinions and make their disgust known. The fans are the one true constant in the storied legacy of this team, and we have been let down and disgraced by the product on the field way too many times for far too long now. THAT'S what the outrage is about.

Going off your fantasy league for one, I'm guessing your not short of a buck or two my good man.

So if you want to do it in style, pay for that, or anything else applicable to this sham of an organization, on a massive cloth banner that can be unfurled the length of a section or two, or even better, the whole side of the field opposite the owners box, over folks heads.

That would REALLY send out a message.

Getting it into FedEx may be the stumbling block mind, but I'm sure you could come up with something.

The optimist in me, so far as the Redskins are concerned, is buried 6 feet deep nowadays. I've finally, fully and completely, come to understand and accept the undeniable fact that as long as Danny is making the decisions, refuses to hire a real GM and constantly overspends in FA we will be a mediocre team that occasionally lucks into a decent season. There's no getting around it anymore, all the excuses are gone, there's too much evidence for the possibility of a coincidence to be considered.

As such, until I see evidence of a drastic change in the way we do business, I won't buy another jersey of piece of merchandise and I will not renew my season tickets. I'm not even mad, I'm right where Czaban's at when he described it relating to the 5 stages of grief. I'm finally at acceptance, I'll cheer for them, but without expectation and without monetary support until I see some significant change because until then we will be mediocre and dissapointing.

oh i completely understand.

this is about the last 10 years.

and I get it - trust me i do.

I just don't think 1-2 is the point to do it at... if things continue, definatly. but at 1-2, we're still in it as much as every other team out there. I'm just going against a knee-jerk reaction...

but trust me, i'm as upset about the last 10 (going on 11 years) as everyone else here... I'm just a little cautious about throwing the season away at 1-2.

It's definitely time to chant "Snyder Sucks" and wear Anti-Snyder t-shirts.

Apparently, this will help the players determine who the fans are actually blaming for the miserable mediocrity we have put up with.

Apparently, cheering good plays, and turning our backs on the crap plays in total silence is the way to go, so that we don't damage the fragile ego's of professional millionaires.

Everyone do the chant -- "Dan Snyder Sucks!"

Make sure he hears it every home game, even with that box closed up.

To point out that we have as many losses as these teams and try to draw a comparison to it is to deliberately miss the point.

yeah i'm doing a terrible job of conveying my point - i'll conceede that.

i'm more trying to draw comparisons between last season and this season.

last season we started 6-2, and ended 8-8. people jumped on early, about how good we were, and at the end of the season we weren't that good.

we've started this season 1-2, and all 3 games looked bad. i conceede there is no case to be made that if we play the rest of our 13 games the way we played the first 3, we will do better than 8-8.

all I'm saying is that momentum is a *****. and it has the tendency to switch drastically on teams - from game to game, from play to play, from season to season. i think its a bit much to forecast this season a failure already.

although I can't exactly blame anyone for doing so. I'm just voicing my opinion thats its a bit earily for the all the doom and gloom we've been saying.

the bottom line is we're more likely to go 1-15 than 14-2. just don't forget that there are possibilitys for both outcomes, and everything in between.

and now they're 1-2 and 0-3.

is it because the teams are truely that bad?

of course not

they had a couple of bad games, things not go their way. The pats lost to the bills - ist that because the Bills are the better team?

Its a 16 game season for a reason... to bail this earily is about as ridiculous as it was to proclaim playoffs at 6-2 last year. anything can happen. Hell the cardinals went to the superbowl with a 9-7 record.

I'm not saying there's any reason for anyone to think this team will still make the playoffs. Don't mistake my intentions here. I'm only saying that to bail after week 3 is a bit short-sighted.
Yeah, they also didn't edge out the Rams by 2 points, fail to score 10 points against the Rams, and then lost to the DETROIT LIONS.

I'll never wear a paper bag. I'm mad the team, but I'm not ashamed to be a fan. I little embarrassed at the loss to Detroit, but not ashamed. We don't live in New Orleans.

People who boo their "favorite team" and wear paper bags over their heads are not real fans. Don't be a fan and be proud to wear the Jersey when they're doing good then turn around and wear a paper bag over your head in shame when they're doing bad. Support your team. You don't like it when your girlfriend boos you when you're in bed, so don't boo the Redskins.

Who uses the word shtick anyways? Cornball.

actually, still going to the game when they're losing, negates any typical definition of the phrase 'fair-weather fan'.

I could go on there and write that a fair-weather fan is a fan that goes on the 50 yard line during the game and drops a deuce.

Anything can be written on that site.

Agreed.

Most people can agree on one thing with the fair-weather, they only support the team when they're winning. Unfortunately it's beginning to look like a lot of the ES members are that.

i still support the team....

but i'm going to boo fi they play horrible against tampa bay.

i think, as someone who (yearly) invests quite a bit of money into the team, i have earned the right to show my displeasure at the product.

notice, i said 'if they play tampa bay poorly', and not 'as soon as they come on the field'. i am at least willing to give them the benefit of the doubt, and let them play the game before i do anything negative as a fan.

edit: i'm still making a bold predictiont aht they enter the playoffs this year... i honestly dont' think the team is as bad as they've played the first 3 games... so, i'm not jumping ship in any way. i just don't blame others who see bast my homerism and want to show how upset they are to snyder and the players. its their right if they bought a ticket to the game. and its not yoru right to call into question their fanhood. if they turn around and start cheering for another team, fine. but they're still going to the game...

I own season tickets as well, which I assume is what you are referring to with the investment part. I wont boo the team, never have and never will, might say things under my breath, but I could never voice it out even if I wanted to, but everyone can do as they please, they have that right especially when they shed out the $$$.

What annoys me is non-season ticket holders and people who do not go to games trying to tell me that I shouldn't show up to a game and support my team. We have two losses, give up on the team, don't show up? Wear bags on my head?

NEVER going to do it.

yes, i have season tickets to 3 seats.
i also buy a jersey for me and my fiance every year (she gest the 60$ kids one, cause its all that fits, and I get the 300 authentics)
i also buy the merch. - fold up chairs, flags, hats, hell i got a stupid 'dog jersey' for my dog.

if you read my post - the second post of the thread - i said I thought it was ridiculous to wear bags.

and I agree with you about the non season ticket holders telling us what to do with our season tickets is ridiculous, especially when they forget to factor in the fact that you've already paid for the ticket.

as for muttering under your breath vs booing. thats your choice, and mine individually. that said, i boo a piss poor effort, a lack of heart by the whole team, and stupid stupid mistakes - not just a loss.

if we don't beat Tampa... at home... against a 1st professional start QB...

so the worst team in the league... in our house... they are starting a total noob at QB...

if we don't win that...

yes it's time.... then any and all yelling, booing, bags on heads, all of it is deserved and encouraged.

thats a completely different situation. the nationals are all youngsters and have 0 expectations. the skins were supposed to contend for a playoff spot and this was supposed to be an improved offense.

the nats have 10x the upside that the skins have in their respective sports.

That said its still only week 3 and seems most fans are throwing the team under the bus. Well heres what I have to say about that...
