Source: Lewis to appeal $25K fine

Baltimore Ravens (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/clubhouse?team=bal) linebacker Ray Lewis (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?playerId=964) has been fined $25,000 by the NFL for his hit on Chad Ochocinco (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?playerId=2584) that sent the receiver's helmet flying Sunday.

Lewis will appeal the fine, a Ravens source told ESPN senior NFL analyst Chris Mortensen.

Lewis was called for a 15-yard penalty for the hit, which occurred during the Bengals' final drive of the game. The infraction allowed Cincinnati to continue its march downfield and score for a 17-14 victory over Baltimore.

The Bengals lead the AFC North with a 4-1 record.
Also, Ochocinco Tweeted this at the commissioner:

"Please don't fine Ray Lewis Mr. Roger Goodell, it was a clean hit, it's part of the game, save the fines for me."

I find it hard to hate Ocho.

I find it hard to hate Ocho.

So do I. The guy is a character but he rarely does anything destructive to his team. And he knows how football SHOULD be played on the field.

See that's the thing. He gives all he has on the field. Yes, his antics can be annoying, but like I said, he's a player for sure. Not many WR's bounce back up after a hit like the Lewis one.

Seriously ... that is the definition of a "defenseless" Receiver.

I've never hated Ochocinco. In fact I don't understand why players that do crazy things on the field, yet always play hard, are hated... but those that beat their wives or get into similar trouble are respected so long as they are quiet on the field.

Des,

It's like the Marvin Harrison phenomenon. Everyone just assumed he was classy because he was quiet but the guy is a straight out thug and probably didn't celebrate TDs because he was THAT hardcore. I now fully believe he and his entourage manhandled those kids asking for autographs at the Pro Bowl and that he was the one who shot that gun in Philly.

Meanwhile Chad engages in things that make memories for people and he's a bad actor.

Ray Lewis, how the hell did this scumbag make it back into the ranks of the respected? I don't think he stabbed those guys but he DEFINITELY helped cover it up and no one faced justice (even if those guys helped bring it on themselves, did they recover weapons on them? doesn't seem like the stabbing was in self-defense) for that crime. Yet this guy's jerseys are all over Baltimore.

Can't stand that *******.

See Terrel Owens.

People truly despise this guy because of his antics. While most have been borderline reckless, the guy works harder then 99% of the players out there.

It's just a shame that the media cherry picks things with this guy. I bet most people don't know about his various charity work, including his own "Catch a Dream" foundation that helps numerous low income families during the holdays, including donating toys to kids. He also recently launched a large scale fund raising campaign to benefit the Food Bank of Western New York, but you don't hear about that in the media.

There was also an attempt by the media in the off season to make his debut with the Bills seem like he was "up to his old tricks" when he was a no show for the Bills voluntary workouts. I bet most people don't know the reason he was not at these workouts was because he was at the National Alzheimer's Gala in Washington DC accepting an award for all the work he's done in raising awareness about Alzheimer's.

The bottom line is, the news and your peers can twist and turn your opinion about someone to the point of you not caring to believe anything else. I was utterly shocked when I found out this stuff. I figured TO spent most of his free time working out in his driveway :hysterical:

But yeah, the guy genuinely takes the time and money to just give back to the community when he can....and it's not like he's like "Hey, look at me and what I'm doing." He just does it quietly.

yeah in slow motion it looks like an easy call.. but heck its a bang-bang play... i think you need to give the defenders a benefit of doubt on those type of play.. same goes for players trying to get a hit on the QB...

i dont the defenders in NFL to start pulling up early cause they think QB might have thrown the ball, ball might be out of reach... its a such a split second decision that you know what i mean?

look at hockey when they took the aggression out of the players... the passion that players played with is gone and you get more of "BS" cheap shots from punks...

Ray even dinged up his own guy on that play.
31 I think it is.
He is holding his head after the play and slow to get up.
Talk about a retarded penalty.
May even have cost them the game.

That said, that hit deserves a fine.

It was a nice hit but it was helmet first by Ray Ray so it deserved a fine.....but hey its hard to not have your head go first unless your eyes are closed....not spearing at all but def it was helmet to helmet so I understand the fine....glad Chad is ok and he is being classy with this but would it be diff if he was concussed or worse? Perception and results are a *****....look at Mark Carrier when with us getting flags left and r.
