I am curious how NASCAR will enforce this. It seems like just another gray area. That is not a good thing. We shall see shortly i guess.

Just wait, watch, and enjoy the inevitable.
Nice to have a race not competing with football and football competing with a race.

Looks like there is some bump drafting going on, so who knows.

this
Although im almost convinced there's nothing they can really do at Dega to make the racing any better. They could either get rid of some of the banking (which they won't) or take off the restrictor plate (again, they won't) but that's about it. I can't stand watching these Dega races anymore. Its a guaranteed throw away race everytime in the fantasy leagues im in.

I think that NASCAR's rules at these tracks are part of the problem. I understand that the restrictor plate is not going anywhere. But the other rules are getting out of hand. That race almost turned into ride around for 160 laps and then the last 20-30 laps all hell breaks loose. If that is the case we should just race for 25 laps there.
http://www.nascar.com/2009/news/headlines/cup/11/01/post.race.rnewman.wrecks.talladega/index.html
"It's not even a good race for the fans -- that's the bottom line -- that's who we're trying to service is the fans. They can stand up and cheer when there's three [laps] to go with a green-white-checkered [finish], but that's not racing. You're supposed to be racing all day long. And I think we've lost a little bit of that luster."
Newman blamed part of the problem on NASCAR's restrictive policing of restrictor-plate races.
"It's just a product of this racing and what NASCAR's put us in, in this box with these types of cars, with the yellow line, with no bump-drafting, no passing," Newman said. "Drivers used to be able to respect each other and race around each other -- Richard Petty, David Pearson, Bobby Allison, all those guys have always done that. I guess they don't think much of us anymore."
Brian Vickers said he still isn't sure what the crackdown on bump-drafting was hoping to deter.
"If the intent was to prevent a crash, obviously it's not going to do that," Vickers said. "We crash as much in the straightaway here as we do in the corner."
"I think NASCAR and all the drivers should sit in a private room, lock the doors and have a discussion and try to fix this together," Sadler said. "That's what I'd like to see."
"It was a boring race for the fans," Newman said. "That's not something anybody wants to see, at least I hope not. If they do, go home because you don't belong here."

It doesn't matter what they do, you're always gonna have guys that lay back in the back all day. Why? Because they're looking to avoid the wrecks. And they know it only takes about 10 laps or so to go from the back to the front on a track like that. The only thing they could do to make the racing better is to get rid of the restrictor plate. And we all know that's not gonna happen. I think alot of the drivers were contradicting themselves this weekend. They blame Nascar for enforcing the no bumping in the corners. Yet when a driver does it to them they call that driver an idiot. I'm just sick of Talladega. Another thing they could do to improve the racing is to get rid of some of the banking. Doubt that will ever happen, either.

I'm not Mr. Nascar by any means, but I'll watch it sometimes. Does Jr. do something stupid every race to go from 2nd place to darn near the back of the pack? Every time I watch him it seems like he tries to make a move and gets hung out to dry and gets lost in the back of the pack.

I hate RP racing. It's just a bunch of cars shuffling back and forth all race and mayhem at the end with an almost random driver winning it.
They need to dig up 'dega and Daytona and put in smaller tracks. Hey, how about some short tracks. That would make up for all the cookie cutter tracks NASCAR has been making over the last few years. Or, they could take a 'dega date and give it to Rockingham and take the summer Daytona date and give it to North Wilkesboro. Not enough money in that so of course NASCAR would never do it. Wouldn't want to see real racing.

You have some good ideas there. I'd keep the Daytona 500 and one Talladega race as they are. I like The Rock or North Wilkesboro getting a 'Dega race. How about opening up the road course for the late Daytona race? Honestly, neither track will lose a race since they are owned by ISC and ISC is owned by the France family.

Take the plates off the cars or it's not worth racing. NASCAR is a joke, I'll stick to the local Outlaws and Sprints. That is where the real racing is.

IF NASCAR wants to "fix" itself, here is a list that needs to be implemented:
1 race in Phoenix
1 race in California - Sears Point
1 race in Vegas
1 race in Texas
Labor Day goes to Darlington, PERIOD
Bristol x2, both on Sat night
Martinsville x2, move one to Sat night
1 NH race
1 Dover race
1 Pocono race, shortened to 400
Rockingham gets a date back, and not week 2 where it snows in NC, sometime in middle of summer
North Wilkesboro gets a date
**** the Chase
Shorten the season - 26 races
GO BACK TO THE OLD BODY STYLE, the COT ruined the racing at Dega, Daytona and Bristol
Quit f'in with the All Star race
Dance with the one that brung ya - Yeah, I said it. the south east made NASCAR what it is, quit f'in them; forget NYC and Seattle and LA and Mexico City and Canada

1. I'm ok with this.
2. This will never happen. They should just have 1 race at Auto Club Speedway and 1 at Infineon.
3. They only have 1 race there, as it is.
4. That would never happen.
5. I wish. But I don't see it happening.
6. I could go for that.
7. I could go for this, too. But they don't have lights there.
8. This definitely needs to happen.
9. I would be ok with this. But Dover is an ok track.
10. I agree. And if you are gonna have two races there, then don't have them a month and a half apart. So stupid.
11. Never gonna happen. And you can blame the fans for this. Towards the end, the Rock wasn't even selling out. For this reason, I fully understand why they took the race from there.
12. Never gonna happen. Wouldn't mind seeing the Nationwide series running there. Or at least the trucks.
13. I think the Chase is great. Under the old format, a guy would get a lead that was unsurmountable and made it a total snoozefest. You also had guys like Kenseth that only won like 1 race and won a title. That will likely never happen again, under the current points system.
14. I've been saying this for years. There's no reason why these guys should be racing 36 weekends a year (38 if you include the Shootout and All Star race).
15. Nah. They just need to continue to research and make the current car better.
16. Not sure what you mean by this.
17. Gotta follow the dollar, bro. That's every business. Not just Nascar.

Another perfect example why NASCAR has gone down the crapper.
How the hell are they going to enforce that?
Taladega was one of my favorite races (Manly before they had to run with restrictor plates).
I had been watching NASCAR since the 70's and I just can't stand it anymore and I have only watched one race this year and that was the Daytona 500.
To hell with NASCAR.

I think one of the main reasons people are turned off with Nascar these days is because of the dominance of Jimmie Johnson. Another reason is because the majority of fans out there are Earnhardt Jr. fans. To those people, get over it.

Not a huge NASCAR fan but I did hear that the restricter plates were going to be smaller for this race. I suppose that if you go slow enough drafting isn't an issue any more.

For any and all who are interested, I've recently created a new NASCAR message board forum, although other sports are welcome...........it's intent is for drama and troll-free discussion of primarily NASCAR-related issues; fans of ALL drivers are welcome. Be one of the inaugural members.
Here's the link:
