View Full Version : Its difficult to stop being surprised at how bad the O-line sucks

Why is Levi Jones still waiting to get in the game? He's a professional lineman, as opposed to Heyer and Williams. And then Batiste gets in the game? Why not just punt on first down?

Probably for the same reason a lot of players don't get in the game. They're not as good as the players in front of them. That takes into account a knowledge of the offensive scheme, blitz packages, etc.

He was watching from his couch for a reason.

It's hard to imagine that Levi Jones is worse than Mike Williams.

Mike Williams is awful and looks out of shape.

BMW actually isn't that bad. Who you constantly see getting whipped like a rented mule is Heyer and which random 2nd string scrub they have playing RG that given Sunday.

BMW is the one who gave up the sack when they were rushing 3. I saw plenty of times where BMW was standing around or got beat. Levi can't be that bad.

the announcers were all over it... vinny gambled that our old and often injured line would hold... he choose not to seriously address the line in the past 2 years, trying to spend 1st round picks on chad johnson and QBs, 55 mil on hall and 100 mil on AH instead... our backup plan was to sign olinemen that have been out of football for over 2 years and guys that have never played...

I love the excuses that this is gibbs' fault... vinny's had 16 draft picks, two free agency periods to do something about the line and he did squat...

+1

What's the most heartbreaking is that we DO have our best players out there right now.

Campbell, Landry, Rogers, Portis (if he's alive), our receivers, and our entire line is literally the best that we have. It ONLY goes downhill behind them.

Thanks for the heartbreak, ass. :(

It looked to me like Mike Williams got beat like a drum in the 1st half today, although I haven't paid as much attention to him the last few weeks.

But you're right about the scrub RG...are we really too good to give Pete Kendall a call and see if he'd play on the right side?

Even stupid NFL announcers can see this is true.

I love how the pathetic state of this Oline magically happend in 2008.

Gibbs did nothing to shore up this line either.

He largely relied on players he inherited and drafted nobody to come in and pick up the slack. He instead relied on old vets like Ray Brown, Todd Wade, Jason Fabini and Pete Kendall.

Vinny is to blame for the last two years.

Gibbs is to blame for the fact that Vinny had an issue that needed addressing in the first place.

Gibbs lost Jansen and Thomas in 2007 and still made the playoffs with backups he trusted in Fabini and Heyer. Obviously he knew something eh?

Stephon Heyer is not as bad as people make him out to be. He's a natural RT being forced to play LT because Vinny went into the season without a legitimate backup at LT (the most important position on the line). His only draft pick spent on a lineman is an epic bust (Chad Rinehart). I hope this clown is not in charge of rebuilding this line next year. He's the idiot who ignored it for two offseasons leaving us to rely on bums like Mike Williams, Will Montgomery and Batiste.

yep, it was such a problem that vinny used one 3rd round pick out of 16 draft picks and picked up free agents such as dockery and fabini to remedy it... did gibbs leave the team with a line full of depth? no... did vinny have the foresight to determine that the line should be the primary area of attention? no... so if you buy a house and the roof needs work, who is the idiot: the person who left the leaky roof or the guy who takes responsibility of the house and ignores it for another two years?
