View Full Version : Electric razors

I'm considering getting myself a new electric razor.

I've used Braun for a long time. They last. I can get replacement heads for them. Batteries seem to last forever. In fact, I don't think I've ever had one fail. I simply manage to lose them occasionally.

But I'm becoming dissatisfied. I have to go over the same place dozens of times before I can't feel whiskers any more. And I have a constant problem with two places, behind the corners of my jaw, where I get hairs that will grow to be a half inch long and still won't get cut until I eventually have to use the trimmer on them.

So I'm open to suggestions. And I figured the overwhelmingly male and always helpful Tailgate might be inclined to make some.

Hard to beat a Braun imo,but these have pretty good reviews as a option and I do think the wet shaver gives a better cut

I've never had much satisfaction with electric razors at all.

I used one a long time ago, then switched to blades. Got one for Xmas this year without asking for one...the couple times I've used it I've found that I've gotten annoyed that I've had to go over certain places time and time again and then just pulled out a razor and finished the job.

It's a Panasonic wet/dry. comes with a little stand that cleans it

I'm with twa and Spiff. I can't shave with electric razors. I use a blade every time, much more comfortable and a closer cut.

That said, I would assume like most other things, the more expensive options will net better results.

One more on the blades-only train. I shave like once a month, so I almost need scissors most of the time; forget an electric.

Sorry, but I gave up on blades. Too many pieces of Kleenex on my face.

That's why I gave up shaving period, though those multi-blade razors do cutdown on the nicks.

Personally, I dry shave. Picked it up in basic. But many have recommended this...

I use the Mach III in the shower and I don't think I've had a nick in years, and certainly nothing that required Kleenex.

I use a butcher knife.

I see your butcher knife and raise you a hack saw.

Indian people tend to grow too much facial hair. I get a 5 o'clock shadow by noon.

I like the panasonic wet/dry and use it all the time.

I use a razor for my neck, sideburn areas, and cheeks. The wet/dry is used for areas around the mouth and chin - it's just too sensitive. I've had a few of the wet/drys for many years and love it.

I shave with a blade (Mach 3) once a week.
I use a Braun Pulsonic (I think it is the 9595) the rest of the week. I might do touch up around my neck with the blade while in the shower but this is by far the best electric razor I have ever owned. It cleans itself, it tells you when you need to charge it, clean it, and it actually gets a close shave.

Every other electric that I have tried doesn't even get me a close shave except for a spot or two. Then I would have to fight with it to get it close on certain spots.

I am thinking about getting another Panasonic wet/dry myself. I had one years ago and it performed fairly well.

I switched to razors a few years back with the Mach 3, then the Fusion, and now the Proglide. I am getting disgusted with the cost of blades and I think I may try a wet/dry again.

I don't need it squeaky slick for work, and if I do, I can always use a razor here and there. But really thinking of checking out a Panasonic again. hell 8 or so packs of Proglide blades will cover the cost.

Which Panasonic did you use?

I have a pretty thick beard, and this is what I use. It works great, and is really fast.

I'm sure I could get a slightly closer shave with blades, but it would take a long time out of my morning, every morning. I prefer to sleep as long as possible.

Since I have decided to shave my head in support of one of our ES family, I found that it works maybe better than a blade on my head. (Not better but easier I should say, but almost as close)

I don't ever grow a thick beard, just does not work for me. But it works fast as you said and is good enough to not look messy/dirty/whatever you want to call it.

I have shaved in the car or in the parking lot plenty of times since I bought the Braun.

I have a Panasonic Wet/Dry electric razor that I haven't used in a long time. I may have to charge her up. It worked great on my head and horrible on my face.

The only thing electric razors do well is get little spots left over from a blades. Say you missed a little speck or stubble. Other than that I have to rely on blades.

I go with a straight edge razor (Thiers-Issard) and a Silvertip Badger brush and I use Wool Fat Shaving Soap. Initially there is a lot of nicks until you get used to handling a straight edge razor but after you get used to it, it is the best shave possible (and you dont have to keep buying the damn blades).

I see no one is talking about them Norelco shavers. I got the Braun one last week and it was around $200 so I can replace my Norelco that I have had for over 2 years. Figured if I was going to order blades for might as well try something different. After one use it went right back to Best Buy for a refund. I will be ordering the blades for my Norelco.

Don't ask me why but the Braun actually took longer then my Norelco with old blades and didn't even get me a smoother shave.
