View Full Version : Heinz 57 Sauce sums up what is wrong with America

Have you ever had Heinz 57 sauce before? It is ****ing terrible. I've had it mistakenly on a few scant occasions and have always left thinking the same thing; "man, this stuff is terrible.....who the hell actually buys this ****?"

Then I realized that there are probably millions of idiots in America who knowingly buy it every week to put in their fridgerator. What exactly is this ****? Is it trying to be BBQ sauce? Ketchup? Steak Sauce? This is exactly the point. It's trying to be all of the above. On the bottle, it says it is good for "Pork, chicken, burgers and steak".......How is that even possible? That's like saying you like to engage in sexual activities with women, men, and small animals.

This is what's wrong with America. This one size fits all dumbing down of uneducated morons is where we are today as a society. Can you imagine one bottle of this **** being sold in France or Italy? Today is the Datona 500. All over the ol US of A you can be sure that legions of uneducated rubes are eating burgers slathered with Heinz 57 while drinking a Miller Lite thinking that life just doesn't get any better.

You know what I want? I want one of you to tell me you honestly like this **** so I can make fun of you mercilessly.

I don't think I've ever had 57. But one reason (among many) why it wouldn't be popular in France is the fact that they're so partial to freaking mayonnaise.

Granted, over there it's better stuff than the gummy snot we call mayo in the US, but it's still mayo.

Everyone has their crappy, curiously popular food products. Don't even get me started about Greece, Switzerland, South Korea, etc., etc...

Really? THIS is what's wrong with America today? First of all, Heinz 57 Sauce is older than you are. Second, NASCAR fans are entitled to be entertained by that. It is not my cup of tea, but to each his or her own.
There are so many more things that are wrong with our society that these 2 things are way down on the list.

Interesting side fact, (well, interesting to me anyway) Kraft Cheese is not actually cheese. When the process of super-mass manufacturing of kraft singles was developed the dairy farmers were afraid that they would all be put out of business and thought that the disgusting glop that was Kraft was such a different process than traditional cheese making that they went to war and won a victory in legal definitons and if you look carefully, I believe Kraft to this day does not call itself cheese (even if everyone else does)

You can tell the difference by how the "cheese" is described on the package... the "fake" cheeses are called "cheese food" or "cheese product" and have ingredients like oils. the "real" cheeses are just called "american cheese". Kraft makes both kinds.

I thought that part was pretty spot-on too. I have a few friends who would fit that description perfectly, if they didn't think 57 was a bit too upscale for their backyard get-togethers.

Since this seems to be the thread for it, I'd like to take a moment and state that after a couple of years of living here, it's inescapable that Eagles fans are bona fide navel-gazing goobers who live in the smallest worlds of anyone I've ever met outside of the lower 10 miles of St. Mary's County, MD. Philly residents collectively make all the Sullies I ever crossed in Boston look like Harvard-educated diplomats. I'm tempted to say that the Philly metro area has the same international cultural relevance as Heinz 57 -- but the comparison isn't perfect because Philly has a slightly stronger oil-refinery odor. My wife and I will be fine here, but I fear for our children. Best to get them the hell out of this area for college, so they can see what a place with a bright future looks like.

(I've always said this about philly. Check my posting history. We have 1000s of hillbilly and redneck jokes, but none about Philly. Obviously the people who write jokes never spent any time there)

True story-
I was on a plane once from Philly to Nashville- and about 10 NASCAR fans from Philly hop on board. You know the type. Loud, fat, hairy, etc.

Got to listen to them tell Tennessee Jokes the entire flight. Actually, the entire cabin did. 10 fat, ugly, mouth breathin, steak sammich eating buffoons decked out in NASCAR gear telling jokes about people from another state- while on a plane filled with said people headed to said state.

BTW, Westy, Bill Burr has something he'd like to say to you about your lovely city of Philadelphia: http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=vids.individual&videoID=1379763533

I love Heinz 57 sauce!
I'm not much of a Nascar fan though.... Guess that puts me in a grey area.....

Kind of reminds me of my Ravens friend talking about the playoff game he went to in Tenn...Ravens/Titans. He was talking about all the people in the stands being backwoods low class rock dwellers.

I was thinking, have you never seen Baltimore fans hon? The irony.

The thing about Titans fans is that they are so incredibly polite. I've been to 3 games at that stadium and I've never ceased to be amazed at how nice they are to opposing fans (with only one exception)

When I covered the game with Tarhog a few years back my wife and sister were in the stands decked out in Redskins stuff- the people around them thanked them for coming to Nashville and gave them suggestions on where to eat while in town, etc. Pretty amazing :ols:

I was also at the debut of Patrick Ramsey years ago- I was in the club section and the only B&G jersey in a sea of blue and white. Fans around me had a lot of fun with me and constantly were asking me questions about Redskin players, etc. It was really cool.

On the way out of that game- everyone was kind of shaking their head at me and saying "looks like Steve Spurrier is STILL kicking Tennessee's ass"

Pretty amazing place. I don't normally buy it when people say certain places have the nicest people- but I think that's genuinely true for large parts of the state.

Yes, Heinz 57 tastes like rotten garbage, but it has nothing to do with America. With that said sriracha is the world's greatest condiment.

I douse my food with that stuff whenever I get Thai. It is excellent.

I don't know about worlds greatest but it's the hot sauce I use most often in my kitchen, more fire than most without that horrid "hot sauce" taste that takes over your food.

Vegemite < Yak balls

Whenever someone asks you to try a new food and they tell you that its "an acquired taste," tell them no thanks. That is the most foul, vile substance I have ever tasted.

Some Brits thought I was weird for eating Peanut Butter sandwiches and they ate that black snot on their toast.

I'm sorry, but A1 is severely underrated. No doubt, a bad cut of meat is a bad cut of meat. But A1 can make Spam taste like filet mignon.

As for the chili sauces -- I'm taking notes.

Oh man, the fact that this is turning into a general thread about sauces is amazing. Sauces = win.

Does anyone know a place to get good peanut sauce? I used to buy it from this hole-in-the-wall Thai place when I was in college, but now that's far, far away and the ones I find at the Giants and Safeways of the world suck.

Make your own, it will be 100X better. Peanuts in a blender, add in a little safflower oil at a time. Things you can add: ginger, garlic, chili flakes, soy sauce. Some people heat the mixture on low heat in a pan, I enjoy it raw.

To loosen it up and use it on noodles add in some chicken broth.

I used to make a killer steak sammich,(way back when I was a cook at a restaurant),that I cooked on a flat plate. I think I posted that one in another thread somewhere. Anyway. Sliced prime rib, with sauteed peppers,(preferably red,but also used green),onions, sometimes mushrooms, cheddar and swiss cheese, and A1. Oh yeah. Mixed it all together on that hot plate then put it on some nice grilled french bread. Had to take a shower when you got done eating it. :D

Sriracha is the tits. Now that's a sauce a man can stand behind. Honestly, how can anyone have guests over to their house if you had a bottle of Heinz 57 in your fridge? Your guests automatically think you have to use all 65 points of your IQ just to get to the supermarket to pick some up.

I love this country, toots. Let's get a few things straight.

The only things I don't like, generally, is the soft mentality from a majority of American "Men" as well as the sheep/herd mentality from others. When I make these threads, I'm actually just trying to do my part to help other Americans. They might not have had the benefit of growing up and experiencing things like I have so it's really not their fault if they don't know right from wrong. That's why I am here.

Heinz 57 is delicious! I like a variety of sauces and that is just one I keep in my fridge to mix things up. My go to sauce is my crystal hot sauce or my A1. I can put either of those on just about anything to add some flavor where there is none. I really think there are more things to worry about in life then what kind of sauce people like...

The best ever. Great for chili, pizza, sausage. Can only find it in ethnic stores.
