When did white people stop working at banks?

I go to the bank quite a bit. Probably 3-4 times a week, and several different banks. No I don't sell drugs, but I gotta put in business deposits and my brother lives out in LA, so I deposit money into his account

Today it finally stuck me what I no longer see at banks

White people

Seriously, it seems that no PNC or BOA in Northern VA or DC has any white people working in them

Nor do any white people actually frequent the bank

Today I had to stop at 4 different banks at various times. At no time did I see a) a white person working as a teller or in the offices b) see any white people actually doing banking

So my white friends, tell me the secret, where is it you hide your money, and why aren't you working at the banks anymore? :ols:

Honestly though thinking to the last few places I've worked, there are fewer white people that work in accounting and HR as compared to other departments.

My wife works at a bank. She's white. I'd say that the ratio of white folks to non-white (african american, hispanic, asian [I think that those are the ones that represent at her bank]) is about 2:1. I also think that this is an accurate representation of the ratios that are prevelant in our county.

I remember the 70s and early 80s. And apparently hot white women did not go to college then, but they still succeeded in quasi "professional" jobs because good looking people always succeed.

So, banks were filled with white women who started out as the "cute teller" and eventually became the middle-aged branch manager.

You saw the same phenomenon in department stores and in the Valhalla of "women" professions - airline stewardesses.

These women who used to do these jobs now go to Maryland. And they become teachers.

You can look at every class picture and yearbook of mine from Kindergartern through Grade 12 and there is one simple fact: I never had an attractive teacher.

My dad just retired as an elementary school principal. His last staff was filled with gorgeous women.

I need some data to back up my presumptions but there you go.

Here is my theory on this. White are just better at getting around America than than minorities, and particularly immigrants, so they will find their way to better jobs.

Bank teller just isn't a very good job. For the same pay, you could work in sales somewhere else or even retail at many places would be better and maybe more fun. It's the same thing with McDonald's. White people aren't going to work at McDonald's when they can be waiters at Applebee's. And they can go to community college on the side.

Bank teller used be a stepping-stone kind of job for white working class Americans of an earlier generation, but now their children and grandchildren can skip over that step and get an education or just find a better job.
