This has been getting some play elsewhere. Now, the old white guy was talking ___ too but that guy is big and he appears to be a Vietnam vet (or post-VN Marine Corps vet.) If you get into a verbal altercation, this isn't some scared academic or old lady--thus you can't expect him to behave in a submissive way (in fact, that merely encourages most of these punks.)

What you see here, though, is the supporting cast as a big issue "kick his white ass" and stealing the old white guy's stuff going through his bag at the end. I hope people pay attention to that, too.

It's somewhat emblematic but with a sweet reversal of what happens on public transit fairly frequently, especially if you're a shade of yellow or white (or brown Indian.) Saw it all the time in Philly, hell, I see it here in Iowa City (but more just noisy and obnoxious behavior--though if you told them to shut up, my guess is a fight could ensue.) Saw people harassed on Seattle's buses too (and heard it and knew my girlfriend had things thrown at her--though in a neighborhood not on the bus) and I experienced a bunch of **** with my girlfriend and solo in Philly (and observed as a non-participant.)

There's another video of an Asian lady triumphant over a black lady on SF Municipal.

Good to see if you've been the victim or racial harassment or seen it occur on public transit. Only beatdowns or severe enforcement of the law and transit police authority will reduce the occurrence of this type of thing.

I have no issue with the white dude anyway, since the other dude threw the first punch. I do feel kinda bad because the black dude let himself be egged on by the females who filmed the incident, but he brought it on himself with his trash talking and trying to make it a racial thing at the beginning. EDIT: Now that I think about it, I wonder if this was PLANNED and that the black dude was supposed to start something (if possible) with the white guy and they were going to record a white guy getting beat up. oops! Reminds me of a case in Takoma, WA where a black kid killed this white guy (by beating him to death with a gang of young hoodlums) who almost was able to get his gun out but not quite in time. It wasn't even a real robbery, it was a murder for murder's sake and then relatives of the scumbag had the nerve to say "he was old, he was gonna die soon anyway" to the relatives of the victim. That is a significant level of evil in a human being to close ranks around a scumbag---I doubt if the victim had been an older black man if they'd have been so callous (though they still would have wanted their boy to get off.)

What you see here is, in essence, little different from that pizza shop beatdown in Ohio(was it?) where a guy on a phone made reference to some idiot who cut in line and then the woman gets her boyfriend from outside, SPITS on the manager when told to leave and the boyfriend (300+ lbs and tall) beats up the guy on the cell phone after the woman instigated some more and assaulted him (by poking him in the face.)

it's a form of intimidation, specifically racist intimidation and violence. It won't stop until someone puts a stop to it or people move on from nursing their grievances and hatred for other people who have very little role in their lives.

What? You're clearly putting words in Bang's mouth on this one. He never tried to pin it on the older guy, he did ask a valid question as to what sparked the altercation. I don't think he, and I'm not trying to misconstrue Bang's words, was trying to blame the older guy, nor was he throwing rocks. In-fact, I'd say you've thrown more rocks with this post than Bang did with his. I just don't understand what you're trying to get at with this post, seems like you're trying to start a fight (much like the older guy in this video ... or the black guy depending on how you look at it).

(CBS) A fight on an Oakland bus that appeared to be racially tinged started because of an elderly white man's remark about shoe-shining, according to a local college student who filmed the incident.

Two men - a bearded white man who said he was 67 years old and a younger black man - can be seen on the video arguing on the transit bus Monday afternoon.

"The white guy was asking the black guy for a shoeshine," Iyanna Washington, the student who shot the video with a small camera, told CBS station KPIX. "And I guess the black guy took it as a racist comment, like, 'Why's a black guy have to spit shine your shoes?'"
After several minutes of back-and-forth yelling, the older man moves to the front of the bus, though the argument continues. Eventually, the younger man follows him.

"I guess he hit him across the face once," Washington said. "And then the white guy stands up and lets loose."

I could very easily have asssumed that the old man was messing with the black guy, but I'd prefer to have seen for myself the beginning of the altercation rather than make a blanket accusation without adequate information.

As to why I question the shoe shine,, it sure sounds like that is the catalyst for the altercation. As to who takes it a step further, once the old guy moved to the front of the bus, the other guy should have left him alone. If not for the instigating of the girls in the back egging him on and a misplaced sense of pride, the whole thing could have been stopped at that point.

I find it unbelieveable that the girl shooting the video is getting on the news and quotes published in newspapers out of this.

From the clips I've watched and read nobody ever asks her why her and her friend felt the need to instigate the fight and yell "pinkie" and other racial terms.

the shoe shining thing is likely a left-over thought in epic-beard-man's mind... someone wrote a note into deadspin(might have wrong site) explaining that on this day, he was at the same bus stop with EBM. During that time, EBM had ran across the st--almost getting himself killed in traffic--to talk to his friend who was a famous shoe shiner in the SF area... EBM then came back to bus stop. The guy who wrote the note then got on his bus. apparently, EBM took a later bus.

If EBM really is mentally unstable, it's arguable that as soon as he heard "shoe-shine" he just jumped into talking about it.

Watched that video, and laughed hysterically at the ignorant comments of some people. Everybody knows how to do a cops job better than a cop. Anybody who thought in this instance there was police brutality seriously needs to get their eyes checked. Generally, people just don't like the tazer, it's that simple. Admittedly, brutality does occur, but not at the level some would have you believe. Those that are guilty of legitimate brutality should be held accountable, but in the vast majority of cases the tazer is used responsibly and saves lives.

4) Blue Bad-Fashion Spandex Girl - for keeping the headphones on, and missing the whole audio portion of this. I disagree. Watch the shoulders on the old guy. You can tell he is set with his feet, well balanced, and firing from his shoulders for power. The first left gets the young guy better than it appears, and I think he was rocked with that punch. The old guy next lands a clubbing right hand to side of the head that pretty much finished him off.

What I want to know is what happened after the initial exchange and when the camera got up there.

One news report featured an e-mail from someone who saw the old guy just before getting on the bus. And JUST before, the old guy saw a friend who shines shoes for a living to bum bus money. If this was the case, I can understand how the conversation was on shoe shines.

I think it was basically a case of two volatile personalities, Bang. We see this happen a lot with varying degrees of outcome. Two people who keep confrontation on their radar and can never walk away without speaking the last word. In this case one is a self-styled "gangster" prototype, the other a self-styled "mercenary" prototype. A recipe for disaster, especially when the scenario unfolds in a public arena with limited space for one to walk away talking smack. Mix in a couple females as witnesses and instigators and you know at least the young guy, but probably both are going to be extra eager to prove he's no sissy for the ladies.



I'd like to take a moment to analyze the physical action here to spell out the young guy's big flaws in tactic, beyond messing with the wrong unstable big man.

Corn Row Man may not have stood a chance in this fracas no matter what he did due to EBM's sheer size and strength but one thing truly doomed him from the time he stepped up to EBM's front seat. He grabbed the pole with his right hand and never let go. He fought with one hand. Zero defense from punch one. Watch the vid again. Before he even hit EBM, he was going in one-handed. From then on, EBM had his pick of shots on a one-armed, dazed, off-balance palooka. CRM's right hand never left the pole until he dropped. Baaaad technique. :)



Also- If there were a way to roll video of both of these men in daily conversation throughout any era of their lives, I'm almost positive we'd find out that they are both extremely racially motivated. I don't think CRM likes white people and I really don't think EBM likes black people no matter what he says. They were simply both too eager to play their respective race cards right away.

The fact is there is no political issue in these videos. There's a rambling nutcase on the street. He said Obama, so it must mean he's a liberal. He also said the other guy was a murderer, and that he had a shank in his shoe, and that turned into a gun. It's clear he's imbalanced, and as such, I don't think anything he says can be taken seriously.

Corn Row Man may not have stood a chance in this fracas no matter what he did due to EBM's sheer size and strength but one thing truly doomed him from the time he stepped up to EBM's front seat. He grabbed the pole with his right hand and never let go. He fought with one hand. Zero defense from punch one. Watch the vid again. Before he even hit EBM, he was going in one-handed. lol good analysis. also, CRM, as you so eloquently put it, had a brief advantage because he was standing and EBM was sitting. but he grabbed the pole and stooped down to EBM's level to throw his punch. and threw it kinda backing up at the same time like he didn't wanna get hit. either that or he thought he could just swing on him and walk away. had he just dove on him, and not let him stand up, the fight may have appeared a bit more even. i think he still eventually would've lost though.

I dont blame that black guy as much as I blame the black chics filming it. They were the only ones to use racial slurs and were encouraging the black guy to fight. Go and re-read this whole thread. It started out as a bunch of posters celebrating that a "gangster" who harrassed a completely innocent old white guy got taken down. They were sure that the gangster must have started it.

Then, when more facts came out, and it started to appear that the old white guy is actually a lunatic and there may be a lot more to how the incident started, most of those posters just disappeared.

The few such posters that remained are unable to accept any ambiguity in their view of the situation. They personally identify with the white guy, thus the "gangster" must have been completely in the wrong. The fact that the white guy has a history of confrontations means nothing. The tape showing the white guy getting tazered at a baseball game for lipping off to the police means nothing.

He's "their guy," their Epic Beard Man, and he represents their revenge fantasies.

Indeed. I had moved on to other more personally important issues, I'm not sure I "disappeared" because of emerging facts. Sure, there's some vile stuff on YT, but I see that all the time, I've come to expect it, sadly.

That does not mean that there is not a "revenge fantasy" at work here, people clearly identify with EBM in some respect. For me, it looked like, even if he was an idiot that the bigger idiot was the guy who followed him to the front of the bus. It's people like the two girls (Iyanna Washington and __?) and the guy himself who represent and ARE often the very types who terrorize public transit systems and cities around the country.

You have to live it to understand it. People were surprised by the disparity between the two people and the outcome (obviously it would be a different thing if EBM got beat down) and found it refreshing and funny because CRG was not terribly hurt (I think it would have been wrong had he been outright killed or beaten into a coma with a weapon or something---then again, if someone throws at me, I don't see why they should necessarily live) but he still got a lesson taught to him.

Who cares if people got their enjoyment from those basic facts and what happens so often? I'd like to see a cop beat with his own baton if I find out he's trying to frame someone, it's not a racial thing, it's what people know is out there and people actually viscerally prefer immediate justice compared to the trial version. It's good that we have laws but people are probably more emotionally satisfied by this kind of thing.
