Giants reach agreement with S Antrel Rolle -- 5 year deal for $37 million, including $15 million gtd.
Now he becomes the highest paid safety in league history...

It has been reported he is on his way to a "full" recovery. Considering he had such a serious knee injury, I'm not sure what full means here.
The signing of Rolle is very good at this point for the Giants and fills a serious need. If Philips recovers and can play again, they will make quite the duo. If he doesn't recover and can't play, very good replacement.

I thought Phillips played SS I could be wrong.

If Kenny Phillips can come back at or near 100%, the Giants will have gone from having unquestionably the worst starting safeties in the league, to arguably one of the best in just a single offseason.
But as I said, that's totally dependent on Phillips' knee.
That said, I love this ****ing signing. Rolle is a great talent, and he's only 27.

Rolle deserves to be the highest paid safety in league history? Oh right, this is the franchise that gave Eli the richest deal in league history. :insane:

Guess who the previous holder of that title was circa 2006.

From what I read, he is only guaranteed $15 million. His contract is for $37 million but the guaranteed money isn't bad for a five year deal. He is the highest paid safety based on the total amount of the contract but does he see the whole thing in year 4 or 5? Well, we will have to wait 4 or 5 years to answer that.

And if he see the whole thing in year 4 or 5 then obviously he was worth it. Pretty solid signing for the G-Men.

Yay, another great free agent comes to the NFCE.
For once, I wish other teams in the NFCE wouldn't make sensible moves in free agency.

Rolle's alright. He's not bad, but he's not a great safety either.
He was drafted as a highly touted corner, couldn't cut it there, was moved to FS, and did just enough between DRC and Adrian Wilson to keep a steady role in the Cardinals' defense.
I don't care that he ended up in the division, I'm actually just glad the Redskins didn't try to sign him.

Four years ago under a Dan/Vinny controlled front office. Embarrassing, yes. But it doesn't negate his post that the Giants paid an above average QB and an above average safety the richest contracts of their day.
You shut that guy up LoL
Didn't. He made a valid point. The Redskins aren't the only organization to pay out a huge/record contract for a player they want, they just get all the attention. This is ES, it's ok to bash the Giants.

Not really. I check maybe 2-3 threads a day and post even less. I never even went back to that one because honestly, I forgot.
But no shame. I said what I said. I am happy to be wrong quite frankly. With no salary cap and no immediate repercussions, the Redskins landing Peppers would've been a disaster for Dallas because of the declining play of the OTs in Dallas.
Personally I am happy they passed.
That said, it should be refreshing for Redskins fans to see Danny exercise some restraint.
I've been wrong before. I will be wrong again. Big whoop.

They should probably have just kept Gibril Wilson a season or two ago. I know he signed a ridiculous contract, too, but at least he was proven to be an above-average safety in their system. Rolle is a solid safety, but the thing with FAs is you never know how they will perform within your system. But who knows, maybe he'll blossom in the Giants' system.

The key to the Giants will be their pass rush. It really fell off last year and unsurprisingly so did the rest of their D. If their pass rush returns to form it won't really matter who they have in the secondary.

Did I expect them to overpay for Peppers? Sure I did. But so did a lot of Redskins fans.
Would I have been a little bit more worried with him in Washington as a Cowboy fan? You bet.
But with no salary cap and no limits, this was the year them overpaying for Peppers wouldn't have mattered.
And that is why its so surprising they allowed themselves to be outbid.
And sure I would've chalked it up as another overpaid player in Washington. AH is as well. Doesn't mean it would have been a bad addition.
Show me where, just once, I said adding Peppers wouldn't be good for Washington.
I'll wait.
