View Full Version : Going To A Dinner, Sitting At A Table With Palin Tonight

Oh yes.

Sarah is in Orlando tonight, at some dinner/charity fundraiser.

By chance, the restaurant manager is my best friend of 15 years. I also happen to be his best client.

So two days ago he calls me, asks if I want to go, and asks if I am okay with a security/background check to be seated at her table for dinner.

After faxing my info yesterday, I just got the call that I passed, and that I will be sweeping her off of her feet this evening.

Now....for the tailgate liberals, if you are extra nice, I will see if I can post some pics tomorrow of her saying hello to you. :pfft:

The table will probably be like King Arthur's table but if you're lucky she'll be sitting across from you playing footsy. That would be better than sitting across from Newt Gingrich.

Yep. I am expecting 10-12 other people at the table, probably most of them being local political dorks, and maybe one or two cool VIPs. Maybe even a Magic player, and then any big client that my friend is trying to impress.

I will be suggesting shots every ten minutes to break up what is sure to be boring political talk and ass-kissing.

I already know what it is going to be.

A bunch of local politicians trying to get Palin's support on local issues...etc.

Everyone trying to get autographs or pictures.

I'm not too big on that, and definitely wouldn't stand in line for anyone's autograph.

And I am sure that she will be occupied the entire evening. But it is a suit/tie event, a great dinner, and some drinks with my friend.

I just saw that. That is insane! Who would pay that kind of money to sit with any politician? Maybe the Pres. That's about it.

I am sure they will make as many of those tables as are necessary. And she would bounce back and forth between a couple for that kind of price.

Who knows? We'll see.

Then after you do that, ask her that if she runs for Prez in 2012, if she thinks Romney would be a good VP candidate. Ask it loudly enough that Romney hears it from the other side of the room.

Good afternoon.

Just back from boxing, and am now being yelled at to go shopping and run some errands, but wanted to check in. I will post a longer synopsis later, for anyone interested. **Makes note** Never drink late before attempting boxing practice at the age of 40 again. So stupid, I thought I was going to die.

The event last night was interesting. Heavy rain all day and evening probably kept some people away. A $250 minimum entry fee likely also had something to do with it.

It really wasn't what I expected. And that was both good and bad. I have never been to a serious political fundraising event before, and that's exactly what this was. This wasn't a book singing event.

A few things that stood out immediately, many that reinforced previous stereotypes commonly held. Some are good for the GOP, and some are bad. And some are neither, but were certainly interesting:

1. Security was nonexistent. No metal detectors. No security even at the entrance. No visible feds walking around in suits. They relied on the local police inside the hotel, but they weren't out in big numbers. This really surprised me. There weren't even people at the front door taking tickets, to make sure that you had paid. Anyone determined to do so, could have literally walked right in for free. People were more interested in promoting the party, and in their own self-interests.

2. The first thing that I noticed when I entered was a silent auction. Again, the theme of the evening was to raise as much money as possible for the party.

In addition to the things you would expect to see, like autographed Reagan books, autographed Bush 1 pictures and other stuff of that sort, the auction table was filled with sports memorabilia. Tons of it.

I learned that a few sports figures have very strong political opinions, and they provided a lot of items to help the cause.

Unfortunately, there were no Redskins items.

A few names really stood out. These people donated many different things:

Drew Brees
Tim Tebow
Wayne Gretzky
Alex Rodriguez
Troy Aikman

Signed jerseys, hockey pucks, footballs--anything from their respective sports.

Baseball had a strong presence too. Serious collectors with a keen eye probably could have found some real values. I am not one, so that didn't include me. But autographed bats and jerseys from people like Mantle, Ruth and Pete Rose were displayed prominently.

3. There was also a live auction later in the evening, just before Palin spoke. I didn't expect to see a live auctioneer. IMHO, it kind of lessened the experience. Cheapened it, really. But I suppose that isn't uncommon at fundraisers.

2 interesting items there:

1. Two flags, one from the state of Alaska, and one from the state of Florida(I live in Florida, where the event was held.)

Both were autographed by Palin. It also included a picture of you and her, and a written thank you note by her. They would then be framed, to be hung on a wall.

That package was finally won with a winning bid of $4,000. I personally thought that was defiling flags, with her actually writing on them--it just seemed kind of strange.

The second item that was interesting really was cool. A serious collector's piece.

It was one of only three daggers, presented to General Norman Schwarzkopf an opposing commander after Operation Desert Storm. Prior to the event, they were displaying this as the big item. They believed it would go for $20k.

It finally sold for $8k. I was surprised at that low price. That was at least something very rare, with a real military significance.

Now to the crowd:

For this section, I would suggest putting all petty political bickering aside. I am just describing what I saw, and we have enough partisan bs on this forum already.

I would put the crowd size at 1,500.

The crowd was comprised of four distinct groups:

1. Extremely wealthy, successful businessmen. Putting the political bs aside, the GOP definitely draws the pro-business community. Especially those earning more than $250k a year, for obvious reasons.

The most well-known business names in central Florida were there, and they were cheering loudly.

Disney was the top sponsor, and their top brass were there.

The top of the Orlando Magic was there.

And the ceo of Rosen hotels, the ceo of the country's largest timeshare enterprise, and the top lawyers were all there.

If you are anyone recognizable in central Florida business--from car dealers to restaurant owners, you were there.

2. Incredibly hot women, not surprising, atttached to the arms of the successful businessmen. **Ducks from backlash from any female members of the forum**:pfft:

Let's be real. Incredibly beautiful women often times end up next to extreme wealth. Last night was no exception. It was a very good-looking crowd. I fell in love or lust, I am not sure which, every thirty feet or so.

50 year old businessmen, faces of which you recognize from local or national tv, were attached to 25-30 year old bombshells.

3. Politicians. Lots of them. Mostly local level people running for everything imaginable, and trying to shake hands.

4. Serious political fans--many of them women. Many could go head-to-head right here in the tailgate.:pfft:

These people were passionate. And they love Palin. At times, it almost resembled a cult-like fervor. Personally, I would never pay to attend an event such as this. But many people would, and did.

Remembering to put political bs aside, I can tell you this--She definitely has that "it" factor that draws crowds. Next to Obama, I am not sure how many others have a bigger crowd following. Some may believe that she isn't "smart enough" on some political issues, but she definitely has a strong following.

Palin also singled out one Central Florida Democratic politician: U.S Rep. Alan Grayson of Orlando. Palin said voters need to remove the fiery millionaire lawyer in November.

"Do it for the rest of America," she said in a speech lasting about 40 minutes.

"I'm sure Palin knows all about politics in Central Florida, since from her porch she can see Winter Park," Grayson responded.

No. But she is extremely hot. There is no denying that. She really is even more attractive in person. She is in amazing shape, and rock hard. She is probably a size 2 or 3.

Okay....I have to run off for a few hours. I will finish later.

There really aren't any big other comments or stories--just some other observations.

I did sit down with her, and met her daughters. There really isn't any big story to tell there, but I will wrap it up when I return.

Much of the dinner was spent with people trying to meet her.

She was very nice, funny, and for lack of a better term, down-to-earth. Exactly what one would expect. No big surprise.

The event last night was interesting. Heavy rain all day and evening probably kept some people away. A $250 minimum entry fee likely also had something to do with it.

Mingle with any "Real Americans"? :ols:

Sarah Palin don't need security.

http://www.claytoncramer.com/pictures/PalinWithEBR.jpg

What she DOES need, even after all these years, is some training in firearm safety. She's got her finger on the trigger of a rifle with a photographer standing in front of her, for chrissakes.

A member of the media? She knew what she was doing. That was no accident.

I dig that Grayson guy.

Did Palin allow reporters to this event, or did she bar them, as she usually does?

I don't believe you McD5 but I like the fact that you try.

I believe he attended the function.

What is laughable is his implication of faxing of paperwork to get approved from a security perspective.

And his "they weren't even there to collect tickets".

He might have gotten a free invite to the gala as they couldn't sell all of the seats. He definitely wasn't sitting at her table. ;)

He can come up with something better. like, Palin went over to his table because He's the best looking guy there. At that very moment space aliens came down and took McD5. At first he was scared but then the aliens told him about their horrible portfolios and wanted stock advice. McD5 told them he expected the DOW to go down for St. Patricks day because all the drunks would clog the roads and the economy would shut down. Then they made him king of the universe. He did manage to take photos of palin but he left the camera on the mothership after the aliens dropped off at his house.

You left out the part where LaDell Betts rescues him from the aliens, so he can return to ES to tell us the great story about it.

I suspect the fact that we haven't heard from McD5 can only mean one thing. Palin has hired him as a chief economic advisor on financial matters.

We'll know this for certain if the next time Palin speaks, she's scrawled a chart on her hand.
