A bold new trade rumor passed over the usual channels on Friday afternoon. As tweeted by ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter, "ESPN.com's Len Pasquarelli reports Oakland is willing to part with CB Nnamdi Asomugha (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?playerId=4489) in exchange for Donovan McNabb (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?playerId=1753) -- but Eagles reluctant (http://twitter.com/Adam_Schefter/status/11100174344)."
This would be an incredibly bold move for the Raiders, too; but given what they gave up for Richard Seymour last fall, it's not entirely unsurprising. Remember, though, as Schefter reminded us in a subsequent tweet, that while Asomugha is one of the league's top CBs, he comes with a very burdensome contract (http://twitter.com/Adam_Schefter/status/11100224190): he's still owed $16 million, and there's a clause that forces the team to pay him the QB franchise value if they use the tag in subsequent seasons.
I'm not sure how I feel about this. On the one hand, the Iggles would be losing a proven quarterback who has taken them to the NFC Championship something like 5 times, but is injury prone and can't seem to win the big game. On the other hand, Asomugha is a top-5 talent at CB, and hasn't really been able to shine in Oakland, but he might not be able to hold up against the bruising style of running the NFCE has been built around. I haven't looked at the Iggle's secondary either, but that would be a HUGE upgrade over who they have.
So, what's more important, an injury prone top 10 quarterback, or a top 5 cornerback who's great in coverage but not necessarily that good at tackling?

Glad you started this thread i've been waiting for it to pop up on here. As much as i have hated McNibbles over the years and trashed him any chance i got to an eagles fan, I just say i will not be sorry to see him go. Nnamdi A is only under contract for 1 more year and with those provisions against him being franchised the eagles could end up with nada after this season for their franchise leading passer. Now is it possible to do 2 way sign and trade ? An agreement where they make the trade only if both players are willing to re-do current deals......Who would take the brunt of the cash hit from Nnamdi contract then? Sorry i've been trying to figure this thing out all day

I think it depends on who he does the deal with. If he redoes it with Oakland, I think they'll take the majority of next year's then it goes to the Eagles, if he does it with Phailly then I think they bear all of it.

Sounds like a lot of money tied up in their secondary...

I wish there was one thread anywhere on ES that didn't have a Jason Campbell bash in it. You ought to look up the word 'obsession' sometimes and see if the description fits. Oh well, I wish people didn't pee in the ocean either.
On topic, I hate McNabb. In fact, he's my favorite player to hate. I hate him more than Eli and the Patriots and Tom Brady. Don't get me wrong. I hope the rest of his playing days are filled with superlative results and that he wins every game he plays in that does not adversely affect the Redskins. But as a member of the Iggles, he's the hated enemy. And I wish he played anywhere but Philadelphia. That team and their fans never deserved anyone as good as McNabb. And they sure didn't deserve a QB who displayed the class he always showed.
But to trade a QB with one or two years remaining on the downside of his career for a top CB with 5 or 6 years at his peak would be the typical Al Davis decision: that is, extremely stupid and short-sighted. Sort of like Vinny building a playoff caliber team without an OLine. (My obsession)

Honestly, McNabb has burned us over the years but he's ALMOST done with his career. Let his ass stay and just fizzle out. I'd rather that than the Eagles getting arguably the most dominant DB in the game.

If someone wants to trade for McNabb, they need to be JUST a QB away from competing. Philly is asking for a first to second round pick, so the team trading that pick to them is LOSING a potentially young starter for years just to have a QB with a year or two left.

God, please don't let this trade happen. Amen.

hmm.. I think I'd rather keep the aging QB in the division.
One more thing. I think theres more "Campbell-basher bashing" than there is "Campbell bashers". And then theres me.. bashing the Basher-Bashing. haha. This never ending cycle that is the interwebz.. You know I love it.. 8)
Regardless, Hail!

as much as I wouldn't want a shut down cover/safety in our league like Asomugha, how funny would it be for McCrybaby to be relegated to the depths of Oakland hell...knowing he will never ever win a championship.

Never were there truer words told. To be honest, I'd like to see him go to a team like the Vikings, too bad they won't get him because of Favre.

That would quite possibly be the worst feeling he's ever had. That would suck for him :ols:

I can't see McNabb wanting to play in Oakland.

1. He doesn't have veto power.
2. The prevailing sentament that I am reading is that Davis might trade for McNabb without a contract extension. He did so for Seymour and could franchise McNabb next year for roughly what he'd get if he signed a big extension this year. Essentially, it would be a two year deal to get a franchise QB for a guy they are more than likely going to part with after 2010 because of the provisions of his contract.
I think the sticking point would be the Eagles being able to work out a long term deal with Ashomogo or whatever his name is before the deal is consumated. If that can happen, both sides would be gaining value from doing the deal.

From what I've heard the Raiders are at the top of a very short list for McNabb but the deal is McNabb for the Raiders 2nd round pick, and it's bye far the best offer they have gotten. The Eagles are apparently not interested in Asomugha or what ever his name is because of his contract and Al Davis is willing to throw in more picks if necessary.
If this is true it would be perfect, no more McNabb and no Asomugha
