Asked by Tom Boswell about McNabb, here's what Selig told reporters, according to the Post's Mark Viera:

"I don't know; it's baseball. Goodness gracious, I'm a football fan -- this is Opening Day. If you really want to know I'm going to give you a brutally honest answer. I got up at 5:30 this morning and did my daily workout. And I was watching an unnamed channel and that's all they were talking about. I turned it off, that was my reaction. My goodness gracious."

shame on Mr. Selig, doesn't he know that football is America's new past time?

He can win America back next year when the NFL is locked out.....

Selig is lucky that Gary Bettman is the commish of the NHL....or he would be the worst one around.

Talk about whining.

Between Obama's WhiteSox/Nationals pitch and the McNabb trade, Im sure he's having a drink or three tonight.

I didn't even know it was opening day until I read this thread. Baseball was bad enough before they whined about football stealing their thunder, now it's even worse.

So I love how the Yankees/Red Sox played last night, but today was "Opening Day." Maybe if yesterday had been "Opening Day" then people would've cared about baseball, instead of a Pro-Bowl QB being traded to a divisional rival (for less than the unproved Cutler, no less)

Selig did this to himself. A blind eye to the steroid era has lasting ramifications.

I hate Selig. I think he's handled the entire past 5 years in the worst way possible, the guy's a complete idiot. This trade isn't the reason baseball isn't talked about, Bud Selig is the reason baseball is not popular.

He should be "not thrilled" with the job he's done.

He sounds like Wilbon wining about the NFL. Like another poster stated, if the NFL is stupid enough to do a lockout next year, he will have his chance to win back some relevancy.

if that man would institute a salary cap this would never happen...people are tired of the yankees and red sox over paying for everybody with a semblance of talent...yea i'm a big redskins fan so its like the pot calling the kettle black...

but last time i checked nfl had a salary cap and everybody was at the salary cap number the redskins just had fewer quality players than everybody for overpaying crap-talent

I actually like postseason baseball or going to a game live but let's really compare here:

1) The Drive, the Catch, Joe Cool, Tom Terrific, Lynn Swann's acrobatics, Riggins rumble on 4th and 1 vs.

2) Some guy hitting a ball far or in some patch of grass. Or some guy throwing a ball at a glove and another guy missing the ball.

so, we should all focus in on that highly competitive game out at Nationals Park this afternoon instead?

11-1?

Yep, that's progress being made out there folks.

Blah, blah, blah. Selig, maybe if you made MLB a little more interesting for us fans, we'd actually give a crap about what you have to say. Until then....

I think he has a point actually. Thom Loverero said today that he thinks the Iggles deliberately times the announcement to rain on the Phillies opening day parade due to bad blood between the two organizations.. And the Nats were the collateral damage.

yeah like losing 11-1 on opening day isn't collateral damage enough. No thanks.

People would care if the baseball season didn't consist of 500 games a season at every hour of the every day all which individually mean almost nothing at all.

when your season consists of 162 games, the first one can get overshadowed easily

Seriously oh no we missed games that account for 0.6% of those franchise's final record. Hopefully we can catch one of the remaining 161 games all of them have to play (not counting the post season which is also long and extremely boring).

People would care if the baseball season didn't consist of 500 games a season at every hour of the every day all which individually mean almost nothing at all.Its not just that. Our culture has become more impatient (for lack of a better word) and baseball is a sport that requires patience to watch more than football.

Its like watching a football game where the final score is 6-3. Only people who are really technical-minded fans enjoy it.

Unfortunately for baseball, that's now the minority.

I had no idea baseball raped and murdered so many of your parents...

Baseball is baseball and football is football. Each has different skill sets and different things to like about them.

I know everyone's a little excited for football to start again in light of recent events, but damn.
