Not Breaking news or anything ....
Did anyone see Darren Sharper on NFL Total Access this week?
They discussed the Redskins and the impact of McNabb ...
Darren Sharper said , " It looks like they are only a veteran safety signing away from being a real super bowl contender "
Rich Eisen smirked and it was obvious Sharper still wants a contract.
Sharper was a BEAST last year and still has a lot in the tank. At this point we know we clearly aren't just trying to sign youth.
This guy should really be looked at by Shanny. He is a leader on the field, and clearly wouldnt have a problem joining this franchise.
I didnt see this on here, thought I would Share .... HAIL

Sharper is hit or miss. Gets picks, but misses tackles and lets receivers run away from him. I wouldn't be super excited for him to come here.

I like him a lot. As NO showed last year, it's not always about being the best at stopping the advance of the opponent's offense if you can consistently create turnovers. That, at this stage in his career, is also exactly what Sharper's about. He may not be the fastest or best player out their anymore, but he knows how to get the ball back. That's more than I can say about Landry and Laron could definitely stand to learn, um, everything from a guy like Sharper if we keep him.

he would be great, especially from a depth standpoint... but i believ the saints already offered him a contract, i think he is holding out for one more big payday... and if thats the case, i dont think shannallen would go for it.

I would like to get Sharp on a 1-2 year contract. Being from Richmond VA I grew up playing against him and Shawn Barber (an ex-skins LB). I don't ever recall losing to their teams thou. Lol (Fairfield or Highland Springs) Sharp can hit. He decapatated a RB on my sqaud coming up from the FS position one game. So I can vouch for his tanasity. His INT's speaks for itself. That will allow Landry to play SS like he should. I'm sure Sharp would like to be close to home. We have no draft picks of value to get a FS. I think he could fill that roll. A vet leader in the secondary is much needed. So if the price is right GETTIM...

Sharper was the ideal safety for GW's defense, and had perhaps the best year of his career, despite his age. While we desparately need a FS, I don't know how well anyone's going to do in a D run by Haslett.

Yeah, I'm still stuck wondering where the rookie version of Landry went. We could use him. Whatever it is, we could definitely use a guy like Sharper. I'll be happy if he comes here, but I do like our younger safeties as well. It's just so frustrating to see a guy like Landry who is so talented and his mistakes so easily corrected, continue to play like he does...slow down, chop your feet, make the tackle. Do not over pursue and leave your feet.
His coverage sucks? Fine. It can be covered up or coached up some, but ultimately some guys have it and others don't. As long as you play your coverages mentally sound and make tackles, I'm perfectly fine if you're not that good in actually coverage one-on-one.

Really???
We (John Marshall) played them (Hermitage) as well annually. actually Jamie Sharper played LB as well as Shawn Barber, Darren played QB and safety and they all were dam good..... hence they made the NFL.
as you can tell we lost to them nearly every year.
Any way enough of the glory years (sign em up)

Why doesn't every team just try and draft the top safety every year to replicate what was possible with Sean Taylor? Sooner or later that will mean something in the NFL right?

We're the ones who lost our dog.
Berry is a playmaking Turnover machine, imo. Creating more Turnovers seems to be the #1 reason behind our defensive scheme change. Dont expect Shanahan to reach, just to reach and make the popular pick. He's already shown that our opinions mean very little to him.
Haynesworth could possibly be traded for either a pick or an OL starter. OR the Skins could pay more than they'd prefer for a FS like Sharper. My point is that alot can happen between now & the draft. Shanahan has been saying "we're trying to get better EVERY DAY". So who might we bring in next? Having McNabb definitely makes recruitment a bit easier.
Don't rule out the possibility that we draft Eric Berry and please don't underestimate the difference he could make for both our offense and defense.
Regardless, keep your cool and (most importantly) Hail!

I think he would be great for the secondary which will see a lot of balls up for grabs with the new pressure the D will bring this year. As the front office is doing they take the time and don't overpay. See what his market price is and then react. Stay tuned.

To echo some of the other posters, I'd welcome him for a one year deal. What's there to lose? Not that I don't like these guys but Chris Horton showed he was more of a flash in the pan and Reed Doughty can't play every down. A secondary of Rogers, Hall, Landry and Sharper with the old timer lining people up would be a nice back of the defense. How good were all those Saints DBs that you never heard of last year?

A secondary of Rogers, Hall, Landry and Sharper with the old timer lining people up would be a nice back of the defense. How good were all those Saints DBs that you never heard of last year? They were pretty good actually.
Jabari Greer was nearly shut down for them, and their pass defense fell off pretty badly when he was injured in the middle of the season. I think we all know how Tracy Porter worked out for them. And Malcolm Jenkins started off like a rookie, but was a solid contributor by the end of the year.
Sharper is below average against the run and just sat back 15-20 yards to try and pick passes while the corners did all the real coverage work.
Was he good in that role, within everything else the defense was able to do up front? Yeah.
But he's a 34 year old, going on 35, FS who just had his first big season since 2005. I think anyone hoping that he would come in and replicate anything similar to his season last year is out of their minds, and safety really isn't an area we need to address right now anyway.
redskins55
April-9th-2010, 01:00 AM
I'll pass.... He's not a good fit for our 3-4. Safeties in the 3-4 just cant sit back and ball hawk like Gregg William's did with Sean Taylor and this past year with Sharper. They have to move around, blitz, tackle, and cover like Troy Polamlau or Ed Reed. Sharper should retire on that last season because if he goes anywhere else besides Gregg Williams scheme he's going to get toasted as he did in Viking land.

Are you not comfortable with Moore starting at FS?
We don't know anything about the guy really, other than his huge hit on Ochocinco a couple years ago. But the coaches have been high on him since he was drafted.
Why don't we see how the FS depth chart fills out through training camp before we worry over who's going to start there.

It's almost always the weight bearing aspects of the femoral condyles in the knee, or more rarely the tibial plateau, the lower bone in the knee.

I'm inclined to wait and see what happens with Oshiomogho Atogwe.
In addition to coming off reconstructive shoulder surgery, unsigned restricted free agent O.J. Atogwe is reportedly dealing with a sports hernia.
He's really banged up, which explains the lack of interest in Atogwe to this point. Still, it's likely to pick up shortly. Teams like the Dolphins, Cowboys, Bears, and Jaguars could all use a play-making free safety.

If that's true, pass. Takes at least a year probably to get back to his normal agility/speed. Already aging, not recovering as fast. Sports medicine is better than years past, but at his age he needs relative health... microfracture is more common place now..I know of a few cases in the NBA...but it takes time and it was on younger athletes.
