Good God, that JUST was sent out. You're faster than the average bear.
Kid (Landry) is starting to really get on my nerves. I'll call him a child too until he starts behaving like a paid professional adult.

Yep, an under achieving safety who was a high pick has EVERY right to show some 'tude to the new management who has deemed everyone who was on a 4-12 expendable. Makes total sense to me.

He's unhappy his names are in rumors so he goes out and cuts off ties with the team so he sucks even more this coming year. Come on man. Taylor had a bad third season and he worked his ass off to get better. Landry sounds like a complete tool.

If Shanahan can rid this team of that mentality in a year or two, I'd be thrilled. This team is full of entitlement. It would be one thing if we were winning and these guys got full of themselves, but this is a below-average to mediocre team that all feel as though they should be treated like gods.

If there's truth to this stuff, there is an alarming sense of entitlement for certain guys on a team that routinely finishes last in the division.
Obviously blame lies with individuals for their actions, but I believe this is the sort of culture perpetuated by the owner.
For too long, you went somewhere else to win, but you came to DC to "get paid."
No more. I don't care what the short-term consequences are. We need to re-establish the very identity of this franchise.

Face it fellas, so far he's been a huge bust. I was pointing that out to my brothers almost every week last year, when they kept on insisting that he's a beast that sometimes just gets caught out of position.
To me, he just flat out sucks. He's a legend in his own mind. Furthermore, you could call him 50/50, because half the time when he went for that bone crushing hit he got nothing but air.
I doubt very seriously that he makes Shanahans team. He really sucks.

His attitude is the type that a new regime should be getting rid of. If these guys can't get used to typical NFL franchise, they can get out. The set-up over the past 10 years was dysfunctional and that's not how Shanahan is going to run this team. This is the off-season to get rid of the bad soldiers and get our ducks in a row.

no... i wont. I fully acknowledge he had a ****ty year last year. but the whole team did... so either everyone on the team sucked, or something else was going on last year. i think its a combination of both.
i don't have much attachment to landry, but I hate to see the guy go after one ****ty year under a ****ty gm, and ****ty coaches.
I think he has the talent, and he just needs to coached, and the defense in general needs to be played better.
And yes, its looking like he was picked quite a bit higher than he was worth, but that doesn't mean he needs to be traded either... if his attitude doesn't change quickly, then yeah, get him the hell out of here. but I think there are a lot more players that should be cut/traded before we get to landry.

Landry was an above-average safety his rookie year and an ELITE safety his 2nd year (and arguably defensive MVP for the 4th ranked defense). He sucked this year, but so did Rogers (who was playing like he was a top 3 CB in the NFL) and Smoot (who looked like he should be out of the NFL).

That would be a bad trade. I'm not convinced that Marshall is going to be much better than a break-out year from the combo of Kelly/Thomas and we'd be wasting the immense talents of Haynesworth.
As for you guys who invoke Haynesworth, TK and other insiders have tried to tell you not to buy into the media spin on Albert. Stop calling for him to be shipped out (though I grant, a high overall pick in the first round makes it tempting) and lumping him in with Landry. Haynesworth had a commitment with his training company and was burned last year by team workouts. Landry is being petulant.

She stood by her sources that we were trading Haynesworth when Schefter said we were NOT. I'd guess this is her trying to deflect how W-R-O-N-G she was on this, not to mention L-A-T-E.

Please please please trade him. I HATE him as a person and don't want him on this team. I don't care about his potential.
Are you kidding me? You hate him as a person? Rather strong language don't ya think. Tell me do you or anyone else on this board know him personally? Who here is sounding like the bigger child? The ultra competitve sports athlete who for the first time it appears that him and his team mates have a ligitamte chance at winning...consistently! Only to hear his name thrown around in trade rumors. Or the Fan, whom by all accounts only reasoning for wanting to get rid of him is...
1. to get more picks
2. cause he had a bad "1" bad season playing out of position in a very vanilla defensive scheme
3. to get more picks....once again.

I'm a huge Laron fan but dude... best way to hault all this trade talk is to do your job! Work hard...do "You" and stop worring about what the media says. Half the time they are way off anyways. Just like weathermen...getting paid to be right less than half the time. Leaving practice to pout doesn't send the right kind of signal. Step up and do your thing man....

I want to get ride of him because he's a delusional, non-tackling prick who doesn't live up to his obligations. His being played out of position has no bearing on his inability to tackle. Also, he's on more than one occasion, missed autograph siginings he was supposed to attend or missed interviews because he either forgot or chose not to take part in after committing to doing them.

Not to get under your skkin but because Mr. Landry didn't sign your commerative "Who let the Hogs Out" plate collection that makes him a prick? I love how some fans equate the whole he didn't sign this or that therefore he's a prick stigma on a player without knowing the real truth. I'm being funny here don't get all disjointed... You do know that they get paid for those events and by not showing up they either leave themselves open for legal action or a substantially easy pay day. If this was also a habitual thing with him he would face numerous fines since most of these events are sanction by the NFL themselves...
I'll admit his tackling...LAST YEAR... was suspect, but I'm not willing to throw the towel in on him just yet. He's three years in on his ROOKIE contract. Therefore he's pretty cheap right now compared to the equal talent in the free agent market. I'd wait till after this season to assess the situation. Back to back equally awful years then you have a case for a trade....

You might be on to something. Redskins beat reporters are use to having something to talk about because Vinny was such an open book. Now that Shanny/Allen keeps everything in house, they don't know what to do. Therefore, they take what ever they can and try to make a story out of it.

It's not even practice, it's workouts.
The local DC sports media is incomprehensibly bad, and seem more interested on stoking fan outrage than actual reporting. Hell, I'm sure they read ES to see which players the fans like and don't like, and slant their stories and reporting in whatever direction would be the biggest slab of red meat for the fans.
However, I think Landry needs to realize that anything anyone does can turn into a huge deal, and plan his actions accordingly, because our media just loves to blow things out of proportion when they sense the fans are turning on a player.

you guys are ridiculous. And who give a **** if you like someone as a person or not?
Would you love the guy if he showed up for his scheduled autographs (which is the reason why most of the hate comes from)? Would he be a player worth keeping then?
You guys wanna trade every player we have, young or old, talent be damned, for draft picks. Mid-Late round draft picks.
So, basically, yea, let's just trade one of the most talented safetys ever (who is only entering his 4th year, and not to mention, was a starter for Nick Saban for 4 ****ing years), for a mid-round pick in hopes of drafting a Antoine Bethea (but more than likely ending up with a Patrick Watkins). It doesn't matter. As long as we get a "draft pick," because that's all that really matters.
And screw Hayneworth. Who cares what kind of impact he had on our team, what kind of player he is, the fact that he came here for LESS MONEY than Tampa was offering him, just because he wants to train on his own - which yielded the best results for him. (BTW, its funny how no one seemed to be screaming and crying about trading Shawn Springs, even though he was always in Arizona and not with the team).
Yea, lets package Landry, Rogers(**** him he can't catch a cold, stupid receivers...), Haynesworth, and Carter(since, although he is coming off of his best year, he is automotically declared by all you scouts that he is NOT a good fit for the 3-4 we are going to run...which I'm sure you guys know ALL about...).
Hopefully Shanahan is able to trade all those no good bums for a few mid-late round picks and a "ham sammich" (so ****ing hilarious, btw).
This will show the hole team. There's a new sherriff in town, and his name is Shanahan. Proven track record as a great personell (ESPECIALLY ON DEFENSE) guy. And to make sure EVERYONE (even Snyder) at Redskins Park gets it, Sheriff Shanahan has the biggest dick in all of Redskins Park. And nobody dare question him.
Here's something all you haters should think about instead: WTF is more important to you? Having guys that will show up and sign your autographs (even if it is Dallas Sartz) when they're scheduled to, or having a team that has at least SOME talent on it and a chance at winning a few games?
Look in the damn mirror. That's the baby that needs to grow up, and if said person got his/her's feelings hurt, well, get over it.

Clearly we have always had lots of talent. The amount of individual talent never added up to the sum of what we could accomplish. I dont care about having individual 'superstars' anymore, I care about a cohesive team that acts as one. Letting players 'do their thing' in previous half assed training programs clearly did not work, we've had numerous freak injuries and conditioning issues that quite clearly demonstrate this. We finally have a professionally run team with a true training program which should contribute significantly to stamina, durability, and performance of our players. Let me repeat, whatever they did before DID NOT WORK, and therefor should not be repeated.

The caps are for emphasis, not for shouting.
Yes, many here do need to relax. So Landry left a VOLUNTARY workout early.
Big deal.
I have no idea what Landry's future on this team is, but folks here need to stop freaking out over every litle bit of info that comes out.

I glad to see some reason and sensible minds have entered this debate on trading any and everyone just to gain picks in the draft...
HailNatsSkinz
April-13th-2010, 09:41 AM
you guys are ridiculous.
Tell 'em how you really feel!
lol I agree with your points though.

I agree with some of what you say, although packaged how it is in your *****ing tone, your points will be lost on most people.
And I even think that Landry has potential to be very good, with the right coaching and the right attitude.
So, basically, yea, let's just trade one of the most talented safetys ever.
But what the **** were you smokin' here?

I agree with Area51 on this one(except for the most talented safety ever part). It seems like people on here want to trade any and everyone for draft picks it's getting kinda ridiculous. If Vinny were still here and making the moves Shanahan is you people would be going Bonkers. But Shanahan gets a free pass, yeah lets dismantle the top ten defense we have so this defense can suck more like his Broncos defenses did. Landry has a **** ton of talent and anyone who doesnt see that is blind, trading him would be a terrible mistake and leave us with another gaping hole in our secondary, say what you want about attitude, but talent wins games. And with the right coach Landry will be a beast. He is not a cover safety he is a run support guy with a nack for the big hit, trading him would be another mark on the list of mistakes Shanny has so far made

The one thing that I will agree with is that Landry has been badly coached lately, and has not been held accountable for boneheaded mistakes.
I think that Haslett will break Landry out of bad habits like mis-timing big hits that cause him to sail by the ball carrier way too often. Biting too hard on playaction fakes and getting torched.
Landry did the above mentioned things so often that it was hard to believe that a coach was saying anything to him while reviewing film.

I can buy that. Doughty played at an ELITE level last year, especially against the run. He was a playmaker all over the field.
But can someone realize that in 2007, according to the SAME metrics, Landry was the 4th best safety in football? And now we're giving up on him because he DANCES too much? We're not the ****ing Steelers, we don't have the credibility (or the stupidity) to jettison talented players because we don't like their personalities!

PFF.com only provides measurable stats, the rankings are basically there just to order things and then you can make your own mind up. If it's dumb it's just making things up right?
If you take the time to look a bit deeper beyond just the ranking of safeties on the positional page (again, not a true ranking) this is the information you can gain from them to break down and make up your own mind about each of the safeties that played last year:
Laron Landry - 1000 snaps played, 1 QB sack, 1 QB hit, 76 tackles, 9 assists, 13 missed tackles, 20 stops (a tackle that results in an offensive failure including sacks). In coverage Landry was thrown at 38 times allowing 26 completions for 664 yards. Of those 212 yards were made after the catch. He allowed a longest reception of 75 yards (also allowed receptions of 69, 53, 48 and 46 yards) and conceded 5 TD passes. He made one interception and defended 3 passes. His QB rating against was 139.8. 2 penalties conceded.
Reed Doughty - 668 snaps played, 2 QB sacks, 1 QB pressure, 67 tackles, 7 assists, 4 missed tackles, 30 stops. In coverage Doughty was thrown at 41 times, allowing 28 completions for 248 yards. Of those 135 yards were made after the catch. He allowed a longest completion of 25 yards (only one other reception of 20 yards against him, 21 yards) and conceded 2TD passes. He made one interception and defended 3 passes. His QB rating against was 90.8. 1 pen conceded.
Chris Horton - 316 snaps played, 1 QB pressure, 23 tackles, 3 assists, 4 missed tackles, 11 stops. In coverage thrown at 15 times, allowing 9 completions for 58 yards (15 yards after the catch). He allowed a longest completion of 15 yards, 0TD' conceded, 0 ints, 2 passes defended. QB rating against 68.2, 1 pen conceded.
Kareem Moore - 182 snaps played, 15 tackles, 1 assist, 2 missed tackles, 4 stops. In coverage thrown at 10 times, allowing 5 completions for 75 yards (8 yards after the catch). He allowed a longest completion of 25 yards and 1 TD conceded, 1 int made and 1 pass defensed. QB rating against 68.8.

BTW, its funny how no one seemed to be screaming and crying about trading Shawn Springs, even though he was always in Arizona and not with the team
Shawn was our top CB every year he played for us. There's a difference with showing up IN shape, and showing up OUT. In addition, Coach Gibbs didn't have a problem with the arrangement with Shawn. Shanahan DOES have a problem with Fat Al not working out with the team. THAT'S why it matters!
Fat Al is our highest paid player. THAT'S why it matters. In addition, we are moving to a totally new defense. Perhaps Shanahan thinks that Fat Al could be working out with his teammates, and spending the rest of the time learning the defense with the coaching staff.

Really smart, Landry. Maybe there's a reason why they don't want you here.
Perhaps he's trying to get moved?
Maybe some of these guys enjoyed the cushy lifestyle that they had when Vinny C was in town and when The Zorn was "in charge". Perhaps Shanahan's autocratic ways aren't sitting well with some of the guys.

What did he do to you?
The year we drafted him, he was @ the Wynn Car show, me and my crew followed him out the gate as he carried a sleeping baby, with a woman next to him and probably had a few minute conversation..
Tried to keep it short and sweet being he was with family type, but we just kept talking as we walked... He seemed pretty down to earth to me.

Pure speculation on what the Redskins Brass is thinking about Landry. He might just be a major player in the new defense. He won't be traded. He has more upside than downside. Plus his lack of discipline in pass coverage can be fixed with coaching. Yes, he took bad angles last year and he made coverage mistakes, but he can correct those things and get back to work.
They should be trying to move Rogers not Landry, cause at least Landry can catch a ball.
